Man....Sad news surrounding people I know

My brother in law's grandfather has lung cancer and only has 3 months to live. If he makes it the full three months he'll barely be able to see his great grandchild.

I might be getting tickets that are either right behind home plate or in a suite at Turner Field and meeting the whole team before the game this September. That would be awesome.

I just think it would be cool to meet my future teammates. Really though, who was it that played baseball on this site for Notre Dame? NDAlum?

Yeah, I know NDAlum pitched for Notre Dame, as did his grandfather (I remember him posting a REALLY cool picture of his granddad at Notre Dame).

From what I've been told, my best friend's cousin's girlfriend is from ATL and her dad is friends with the Braves' GM and they get hooked up pretty often. They know baseball is my passion so if things fall through I will be able to have one memorable day.

That's awesome. I need NDAlum to come pitch to me. I've been thinking about trying to play again when I transfer to university next fall(2015). It won't hurt to try. Worst case scenario is my life doesn't change at all.

I even bought a pitching machine(albeit it cheap) and have had fun hitting with it. Thing throws 45MPH. It's a laser cannon. With some math it isn't too hard to set up to have the same reaction time as any fastball speed I'd like to try and hit. Obviously it's not the greatest practice as baseball isn't just fastballs in the same one foot radius, but it helps.

I did set it up one time at 15 feet away which was equivalent to a 168MPH pitch being released at 56 feet away. Talk about challenging. I hit one fair, fouled one, tipped about two or three and then swung and missed at least twenty times before I gave up. It did make anything more realistic feel a lot more manageable.

It's arm still seems pretty healthy. I can guarantee you that any contact I made at that range was pure luck and will probably never be replicated by me ever again. But the elbow on the machine is as good as new.

You need to build a replica Tigers bullpen, let the machine warm up in the replica, then blast the Benny Hill theme and drag it out to your mound. You're guaranteed to mash everything after that

Do teams do tryouts? There's less than a 0% chance I would make it, but it'd be fun to go and try.
