Re: Off Topic 2014
This day has been taking forever. Only 30 more minutes though. I have absolutely no plans all weekend other than to watch football and play video games.... I'm super excited about that.
I have a vacation starting next weekend, so I'm sure next week will drag even more.My 2K17 Boston Celtics MyLeague

today also might be one of the longest days of my work week so far. I am just waiting until I can head out to the football games later tonight for a change of pace.Comment

Re: Off Topic 2014
So I'm 5 days deep into this 3 month reno away from home. So far it's been alright. Can't really complain too much but I'd be lying if I said I don't miss certain things a little bit.
Hotel living isn't exactly the greatest. It's a bit of a pain not having some of the things you're used to and tend to take for granted like an oven or washer and dryer. The lack of an oven is probably the worst part to me because it limits what you can eat and how healthy you can eat. It also doesn't help when I'm surrounded by Pizza Hut, Dominos, A&W, and McDonalds is literally 20 steps out of my hotel door.
On the bright side, after the first day I ended up getting moved into a room of my own, so that's helped a lot. The roommate I had originally was pretty alright but having to live with someone you literally just met isn't the most comfortable thing. I'm just hoping I get to maintain this but I'm sure at some point someone's gonna have to move into my room with me. Not really looking forward to that.
Dryden itself is pretty...meh. I already knew it was going to be a lot smaller than home, I just wasn't expecting it to be as small and empty as it is. In a way it can be nice with there being less traffic and people. On the other hand, I guess I'm just so used to city life that I kinda miss everything going on around you.
Work itself is fairly easy, especially compared to what I've been doing. It's a nice change of pace when you show up to work, do what you can, and then leave when you're supposed to as opposed to staying nearly an hour late and basically being expected to. What's also nice is not having the feeling that everything needs to be done 110% perfectly otherwise you've pretty much failed, even if the situation you're presented with most nights involves pulling a miracle out of your ***. So in that regard it's been nice.
What's also been nice is that so far things have been fairly stress-free. Everything is pretty straightforward and I don't really have to deal with much bull**** going on around me. I also don't really have to stress about money or bills either.
All in all, it's so far so good. There's still a long ways to go from now until January 25th when this is done with and I get to stay back home. I'm just hoping things don't take a turn for the worse and that they can relatively stay how they are now. Regardless, I just have to keep the end goal in sight, which is saving myself a ton of money. In the end it should make it all worth it. I think when I do finally get back home though, it's time for me to move on from Walmart. 3 years is more than enough working for that place, and I don't feel like I can make a good enough living off of it. So long as I end things respectfully and professionally, I can at least know that if I ever need to, I should be able to fall back on that job, but I feel like it's time to move on.Last edited by BlueNGold; 10-17-2014, 05:05 PM.Originally posted by bradtxmaleI like 6 inches. Having something to fall back on is priceless. You always know, no matter what happens, you'll have some form of work.
I can't state that enough to my employees. I have that "something to fall back on"
I've had that for the last 15 years or so and while I haven't had to use it yet, (knock on wood) it makes doing my job a lot less stressful .Originally posted by Anthony BourdainThe celebrity chef culture is a remarkable and admittedly annoying phenomenon. Of all the professions, after all, few people are less suited to be suddenly thrown into the public eye than chefs. We're used to doing what we do in private, behind closed doors.Comment

Re: Off Topic 2014
So yesterday I just found out one of my students has deuteranopia (a form of color blindness). She actually wanted me to pick her brain for a while as I tested her on what certain colors were, etc. I've heard of people being color blind and such, but not in such a severe way where actual colors in any form are completely warped.
For the record, here's what her color spectrum could appear to be like:
And here is an example of what she possibly sees when she goes outside:
I understand color blindness is more common than I'm making it out to be (and there's a good chance a lot of you here probably also inherently have this), but this is the first person whom I've met that has it this severely.
I wonder if there's a way... some techy glasses or Photoshop or what have you... that I can distort a regular image so that those colors would make her colors look like our colors, so she knows what we see. I wonder if that makes sense.Samsung PN60F8500 PDP / Anthem MRX 720 / Klipsch RC-62 II / Klipsch RF-82 II (x2) / Insignia NS-B2111 (x2) / SVS PC13-Ultra / SVS SB-2000 / Sony MDR-7506 Professional / Audio-Technica ATH-R70x / Sony PS3 & PS4 / DirecTV HR44-500 / DarbeeVision DVP-5000 / Panamax M5400-PM / Elgato HD60Comment

Re: Off Topic 2014
Sometimes when we play FIFA some of my friends complain if certain players (1P is red, 2P is blue, etc) are on the same team.
It's definitely pretty common. PNHL - Philadelphia Flyers
NFL - Buffalo Bills
MLB - Cincinnati Reds
