In the 17 hours that have elapsed today (in the Eastern time zone at least) OT has already seen nearly 1/2 of the entire post count from last week.

When I was a kid, I honestly thought they used regular table salt on the roads and side walks. So when I was 8 years old, I took a container of table salt and was pouring it on the side walk and down the back door steps. My mom saw me and said what are you doing ????

I said I'm salting the steps and side walk. My mom laughed at me non stop for a good 2 minutes. Then my dad walked in the room and said what is so funny. My mom told him and he laughed too. Then he said son, that isn't the type of salt they use on the roads and side walks.

You were a kid though, so you get a pass.

Last week we had just a small bit of ice, more so on sidewalks and driveways. When my wife got to work, the Principal of the school was pouring table salt on the sidewalk.

On the flip side of that, when I was a kid I ate a few pieces of the stuff you put on your sidewalk. Don't try it, it burns.

lol, that reminds me of the Simpsons episode when they were trapped in the school cause of all the snow, and the snow ended up melting after Homer crashed into a cracker salt cylo thing and it poured out all over the school.

Yeah, table salt is sodium chloride (NaCl) while road salt is mostly calcium chloride (CaCl2 apparently can't do subscripts on these boards) I remember one time in my 10th grade chemistry class we were playing a trivia game for a review session. One of the teams was called "The Salt Shed" in reference to a salt shed by the park and not far from the high school where the borough stored its supply of salt and behind which kids liked to hang out. Anyway, when the teacher wrote the team names on the dry erase board, he wrote that team name as "NaCl shed" to which I pointed out that it should be CaCl2 shed.

Once my sister was out salting the sidewalks (I was away at college) and she had our dog out there with her. At one point she tossed a handful of salt and the dog jumped and caught in her mouth then was apparently just laying in the snow crying. My sister freaked out and called our mom worried that it would hurt her and our mom called me and told me what happened to which i said it wouldn't hurt her, though it probably didn't taste very good.

Since we're on the topic of thinking one thing is something else when we were little....

When I was little,I thought everytime in baseball they said something about a teams clubhouse, it was an actual clubhouse. Like there'd be this special clubhouse somewhere in the city specifically for the players of the team, and after the game they'd all go there and hang out,and only they were allowed in.
