I'm old, I have Weatherbug on the taskbar, I check MLive.com and WNEM.com (local tv station) every single day. When I go to bed at night, I set the Michigan radar on my monitor full screen and aim it toward the bed so any time I wake up (which is often) I can just glace over and see what's up. Comes in handy if it's gonna rain all day and I need to get up early to walk the dog before the storms hit. I don't even know if my Dish has TWC.

When I lived in Mobile I had Fat Tuesday off.

Now I work an hour away from New Orleans and I have to work on Fat Tuesdays.

I've been to Mardi Gras at both places and I actually prefer Mobile. New Orleans definitely has more rated R stuff going on. However, the likelihood of being robbed/raped/murdered goes up exponentially. Not that I would go to either now, but I would never, ever bring my wife with me to Mardi Gras in New Orleans. Not with the way women get treated there, but I would feel completely comfortable bring her to Mardi Gras in Mobile.

Since your making a big deal out this for no reason it's important to point out that Alabama wasn't a state either when Mardi Gras was brought to America.

It may have started in what is now Mobile, but at the time, it was the capital of French Louisiana.

Not something to claim for your state when it's this petty.

Mobile did have the first formally organized Mardi Gras parade in 1830 #TeamMobile

My bad then, I guess I misunderstood you accusing someone of doing something for attention as making a big deal out of it.

                  Carry on then. My bad.

Alabama became a state in 1819 so the parade was in Alabama.

I did learn that Mobile, Biloxi and New Orleans were capitals of French Louisiana.

I had an RSQ watch this morning from 2-6am. I basically sat in a room with another guy and watched two movies, while monitoring everything this recruit does. The guy tried to hop the fence during his first week at boot camp so now he's on a hold on the third floor of our building.. lol.

We watched Man of Steel and the newest Fast and the Furious movie.

I also start "Day of Arrival" tomorrow. I'll be working with RDCs and recruits on their first day of Boot Camp getting them through a bunch of **** they have to get and do. It may or may not be fun, but I'm on hold for a week or so because of a few dental appointments and It's better than getting stuck with random watches all the time.

I also watched Lone Survivor and the newest Hobbit movie over the weekend. There are some big ****ing malls around the Chicago area. It's cool being out, but I only have Phase 1 liberty and everyone and their mother knows you're in the Navy. It's a heavily Navy populated area so I feel like I'm always being watched. I did have a few people ask about my peacoat yesterday.. lol.

Also.. I know GMSS says a lot of **** that makes me shake my head, but *** **** if he wasn't right about good looking women around Chicago. I got some Starbucks last night and I didn't want to leave...

We had a few people try to escape during boot camp. Makes people go crazy I guess. We had one girl who jumped into the water and swam around the fence and walked to the Wawa. One guy in my company jumped the fence in full uniform with his piece and got caught. That guy was a little off.

Our off base liberty was some sort of boardwalk thing in Cape May. It was fun but we had to walk around in uniform and this chick drives up next to me and my friend and offers to take us back to her house. It was tempting but I just knew it had to be some sort of trap. I mean who just drives up to someone and ask to bring them to your house? Didnt feel right.

We're allowed to go within 50 miles of the base so I could really go all the way to Wisconsin if I wanted to, but there's a lot to do around Chicago without even getting in the city.
