While we're speaking of Sears, the two closest Sears to me have closed. The closest was the last of two anchors for this mall (funny, it used to have a Kmart as an anchor as well). The only thing keeping that place alive is the movie theater, two restaurants, and their last anchor (Elder Beerman).
The other Sears was in the Fayette Mall. Used to be a divider between the old section and the new section. Rather than put another anchor store in there, the Fayette Mall decided to tear the Sears garage down for new parking and convert the space to have several stores in there.Comment

Sears is still somewhat around here in Canada. Man, when I was a kid I used to love getting the big Sears catalog....There's a Sears in the mall here and it's one of the anchor stores as in it's one of the 3-4 stores that have a ton of retail space and two levels. Sears isn't as prominent as it used to be but the brand is still doing ok all things considered here. There are still commercials on TV for it.Member of the Official OS Bills Backers Club

My kids are all about the Lego catalog and the Toys R Us catalog. I'll see the lego catalog floating around the house for MONTHS!Originally posted by Anthony BourdainThe celebrity chef culture is a remarkable and admittedly annoying phenomenon. Re: Off Topic 2014
Now the thing is thinner than a game manual.
Of course we stopped using a catalog when we got mom hooked on Amazon. For a couple years I had been using a word doc list complete with pictures and URL links. Each list was different so nobody would buy the same thing twice.
Now I just want enough money to buy the **** myself.

I grew up on Finger Hut and Cook Brothers christmas catalogs. And when I turned 18, all christmas gifts stopped.Comment

Amazon is a game changer. Totally. My wife and my mother both have my kids go on and set up wish lists. My kids even know how to add to their amazon wish list from other sites.Originally posted by Anthony BourdainThe celebrity chef culture is a remarkable and admittedly annoying phenomenon. The JCPenney Xmas Catalog was such a tease. Every year I saw pictures of Power Wheels, and every year my dreams were shot down.Comment

It's still a recognized holiday?
We get off for postal holidays, which today is not one. I guess government and postal holidays are not the same.
Funny story: my buddy works for his brother-in-law's company as a salaried employee. Well a couple weeks ago he sent out a mass text asking if everyone wanted to get together to go to Six Flags for the holiday. He included his BIL. The only person who responded was his BIL, he punked him "in front" of everyone saying it's not a government holiday but thanks for the heads up he needed a baby sitter for his day off.
Had me bagging up.
