Funny thing about that is Grotto Pizza wasn't even founded in DE. It's from PA.

They got Maryland and DC wrong. Gianni's is the best pizza spot in MD and Italian Pizza Kitchen aka Jumbo Slice in DC on U Street.

If I were going out for a pizza dinner in DC it'd be at Matchbox in SE. Love that place.

Not a place you can grab a slice though.

I had a pretty annoying day today...

My wife and I went to PetSmart to pick up some stuff for our dogs after church. They had a few dogs up for adoption and we feel in love with a 6 year old lab-basset mix named Buddah. Even though we already have dogs, our oldest isn't doing well, so we know we'll have any opening in our home soon. Anyway, this dog was just so unique, had a great demeanor and we had an instant connection with him. The lady told us that a vet had been keeping him for about a month until they found him a home.

We deliberated for awhile, but ultimately decided to go for it so my wife started filling out the paperwork. While she was doing that he lady working there told me that I could go ahead and walk him outside and get to know him, etc. So I spent a good 10-15 minutes with him, then came back in and sat down to wait for the paperwork, approval, etc.

While I'm waiting a mom and daughter comes up and tells me that they're there to get him. I basically tell them that we had got him. Apparently, they had seen him online or something because the worker lady said that they had filled out their application before us. At first the said that they would come out to both of our homes and give him to which ever one of us had the best place for him. However, I could tell that things weren't going great for us because their teenage daughter was already in tears. I ended up conceding and letting them have him, even though I'm sure that's how it would have ended up anyway. I figured that going through the process and still being denied would have been worse than just giving him up right then and there.

I'm a little PO'ed at PetSmart because I'm not sure why they had him out in the first place if he wasn't available. Plus, it wasn't like he was just there, the girls there were really "selling him". I suppose that I should be happy because for one, it was a bit of an impulse decision for us and two those people didn't seem trashy so I assume that the dog went to a good home... which is what matters the most in all of this. However, it still felt like a kick in the gut.

That's just crappy all the way around.

Imagine how that would have gone for them had you already gotten the dog and were home before they even got to the store.


Pretty bad situation for all parties involved and not at all fair.

Yeah, I can't be mad at the people who got him. Had they been the store before and just passed him up, then that's one thing... however, apparently they had driven over and hour to come and get him and were as upset then as I was afterwards.

Honestly, I can't even be that mad at the adoption people because I imagine that a lot of people fill out an app and end up changing their mind, so they're just looking to do what's best for the dog.

It just sucked because it was like getting a Christmas preset as a kid, playing with it for awhile, then realizing that it was meant for someone else. In the end, I know that we can save another dog in the future, and we will, but it we'll just wait until it's a better time for us now.

Soooo... question. I can't actually believe I'm asking this, but apparently it's not as obvious as I thought:

Bears got the ball late in the first half, 2 seconds left on their 14. They took a knee, which, in my mind, down 42-0 as they were, is the smart football play. But one of my buddies who's watching the game with me starts talking about how they're giving up, yadda, yadda, basically saying that they should take a shot at the endzone down 42. This leads to a very long discussion that went basically nowhere, but, I'll pose the question to you guys. Do you sit on the ball, or try to take a shot that probably won't work in a game that's pretty much gone?

Your friend thinks they should've taken a shot at the endzone from their own 14 with 2 seconds left? Yeah, no, that's just crazy. I could see a team taking a shot if they were at their own 40 or closer, but really nothing good can happen from trying to take a shot from your own 14 with 2 seconds left in the first half.
