    Wisdom Teeth Removal.....

I only have two wisdom teeth currently that are both on the right side of my mouth. The last few days they've been making my mouth a bit sore and certain parts of my cheek numb and have a tiny bit of pain when you touch the numb parts. Been thinking of going to the dentist in the next few days and seeing if they needed to get pulled.

Thought I'd create a thread and ask how the procedure was for Wisdom Teeth removal? I've heard all sorts of stories from people saying it was easy, quick and painless and others say it was some of the worst pain they've every felt.

    Opinions?

    Re: Wisdom Teeth Removal.....

It wasn't too bad. I had four removed. I slept the whole day after it was done and I hardly remember any of it now. I was bleeding pretty bad, apparently. It ached for a few days afterwards.

I think it can be better or worse for different people. It wasn't so bad for me, but it might be a different experience for you, so no guarantees!

EDIT: I was put under, too.

I was put under when I had mine pulled. It was awesome.

Tried counting to 10, I got to 2 and I was out. I woke up and got some ice cream with my mom, then went home and played video games all day.

Didn't feel a thing. I couldn't participate in basketball practice for 2 weeks so that was kinda nice not having to run.

I had all four removed and I was fine. No swelling, no pain. They had to cut them into quarters.

Mine was kinda bad. I had an infection in my gums that formed from one of mine so it was a quick decision by my dentist to get them removed.

They used local anesthesia instead of putting me to sleep. The shots hurt like hell, then they started pulling the tooth with the infection before it was numb.

They had to cut the other 3 out, which I think makes the recovery a little worse than if they just pull them.

I was in a pretty good amount of pain for a few days after the procedure and could only eat smoothies/etc for almost a week. It was pretty miserable.

Oh, I also had strep throat at the same time...

I was put under for mine(around Nov two years ago), mainly due to having to visit an oral surgeon. I wouldn't say really "put under", but I had an IV in and I didn't feel anything...

Still, even with an oral surgeon, it was painless and relatively easy for me after. Massive jaw soreness right after, but you'll get pain meds for that. The biggest thing that actually happened to me was I got the flu a day or so after I had my last two pulled, leading to all sorts of fun things.

The best advice I can give is that if you have to go to an oral surgeon, find someone you're comfortable with.

Off-topic, but I get to have periodontal gum surgery on next month on a couple of my bottom teeth (braces combined with rough brushing habits got me...). I'm sure that's going to be fun.

I actually hear it's not as bad as wisdom teeth removal, but I'm not getting put totally under for it, so I'm kind of worried, LOL. They take a piece of your gum in the roof of your mouth and graft it to the area that needs new gum tissue.

                Thanks for the posts!

I've always hated dentists even though I've never had any sort of bad experience while going to one. To my knowledge, I only have two wisdom teeth, just two on my right side. The one on my bottom jaw doesn't look impacted as it's pretty much grown in normally. The top tooth is just starting to erupt from the gum area so it's hard to tell if it's impacted or not. The part of the tooth that's exposed from the gum luckily is next to the molars in front and just by touching the wisdom tooth it seems to be growing in straight as well.

I guess I would have to get X-Rays done to truly see how the teeth on my right side are and to see if there are any teeth on my left side that haven't appeared yet.

It's worth getting them checked out. Just be sure to stock up on applesauce and jello beforehand

I was put under, had all 4 removed. Afterwards I was in a good deal of pain, even with meds. I couldn't eat solid foods for a few days either. It wasn't a pleasant experience, though I'm glad I wasn't awake for the actual surgery.

Apparently when I was coming out of my sleep, I kept saying over and over, "I'm so happy right now" and "I can't wait to eat all the pudding." I don't even like pudding that much.

Don't waste money on being put under. I had two pulled when I was 14 (one was stuck to the bone or something like that) and the other two when I was 20. I was fine both times. The latter two I was at a football game that night.

What I do recommend is plan it so you can go straight to the pharmacy to get your drugs. Of course it depends on the person, but the second time I got them pulled Friday morning and was off the hard drugs by Sunday.

You should be fine if they are both on the same side. My best advice is to tie the ice to your face with some wrapping bandage. I had all 4 removed and had ice on both cheeks when I fell asleep one of the ice bags fell off. The side that had the ice stay on had no swelling. The other side swelled up like I stuffed a couple golf balls in my cheek and that side hurt for a few days longer than the other.

I got knocked out and prescribed loads of painkillers. It was great and i played video games. Only an OSer would play it hours after the surgery...

Our daughter just had it done over xmas break. She was knocked out and had all 4 removed by an oral surgeon.

In and out in an hour.

Vicodin and Ibuprofen switching on and off every 4 hours. Jello and smoothies for a few days and solid foods by the end of the week.

Still asked for a refill on Vicodin on Monday, so, know she was sore for a bit a week later. Now, she is A-OK.
