As a healthcare professional the best thing I can tell anyone is to be aware and wash your hands when in public places. For those with children be vigilant in that they do NOT put their hands on their face, ears, mouth. Take universal precautions.Comment

 Re: Ebola

No, there will be no US outbreak. Its unfortunate but not likely. We have a very good system in place. Being that the disease is viral I highly recommend getting good doses of anti oxidants such as Vitamin C. Keep that immune system and digestive tract strong. Eat yogurt, good belly, etc.Last edited by ANDROMADA 1; 10-08-2014, 04:40 PM.Comment

 Re: Ebola

Not to get political, but with today's global economy and widespread international travel, that is a rather shortsighted thing to say. Any disease is more than capable of reaching any part of the world. The difference is that the U.S has a vastly superior public health infrastructure compared to Africa such that while the virus can and has reached the U.S. the chance of a widespread epidemic is extremely remote.Last edited by BurghFan; 10-08-2014, 05:26 PM.Steelers : IX, X, XIII, XIV, XL, XLIII

 Re: Ebola

I'm not sure I would call them big myths....pretty much standard talk from what I've read....

I do have issue with their math on #2

They say about half the patients live....then they say that 50% of the latest outbreak lived.....20% from previous outbreaks(sounds encouraging though!)....unless I'm not getting it...that's not half of the victims living.

 Re: Ebola

 Thanks for your reply.

You don't need luck. Just universal precautions and some training. You can train a child to do this almost like clockwork. For example, my 3 y/o knows to keep hands out of her face b/c I make it a point of emphasis. She washes her hands even when I don't ask her too. The older kids already know the same b/c I will give them remedial training if they do not. They are not animals that just go by instinct, and even with that animals too can be trained. Either way its better than doing nothing at all.

As for a particular virus not reaching the US, I'm not sure about that. There is no way to guarantee that. There are however universal methods for combating viral infection.
