Yep, that's what I feel at home... It's weird living in the basement at home and working the night shift. I feel detached from the real world, and I feel like I'm losing connections with my old buddies in college because of my different schedule. I don't mind working the night shift at my hospital because it's a little quieter and I make more money (which speeds up that $ process), but it's something I've yet to find my groove in.

I'm moving out of the basement and into my old bedroom (where my older brother lives right now) some time this week, so maybe that'll make me feel more "at home" and not just "in the basement", if you know what I mean. I think if I were to live home for the time being, I'd rather feel like I'm really home than to feel like I'm in a basement trying to convince myself that I have my own space when I really don't.

I'd be lying if I said I "enjoyed" living check to check that 1st year or so out of my parent's house but I do appreciate it now that I can look back on it. That grind made me resourceful and gave me a mountain of stories to tell.

Basically been on my own since the 6th grade. Had foster parents that told me I had to leave 2 weeks before my 18th birthday because they had visitors coming and they needed the space. I knew it was because they would no longer be getting any money for me. Left and never spoke to them again.

          Re: OS Life Advice Thread

Personally, I have the itch to move out already, but I'm trying to put it off for a year or two. I just graduated from college and got a job, so for now, the plan is to live at home and save up my money for a year or two before I can finally move out of the state of New York and see a new part of the country. Most of the jobs that I'm really interested in require around 2 years of experience, so that works for me, and on top of that, my girlfriend is moving to Malaysia in a few weeks and will be gone until next November anyways, so our plans both kinda coincide with each other. She wants to move out of Pennsylvania to go to grad school in a new place when she gets home, so the plan is that we'll both move out together (assuming that we're still together, but we've been dating for almost 3 years now and are still going strong, so I'm pretty confident that we will be).

She's talked about London or DC. I'm good with either, but have also thrown out the idea of Chicago, Boston, or something further west like one of the cities in Colorado or Portland or something. We want to be somewhere that has all four seasons like we have in upstate NY and Philly, but at the same time, want something new. And I personally really want to live somewhere that has a major pro sports team (London has the Premier League, and the other cities I mentioned have some combination of NFL, NHL, MLS, NBA, etc.)

So yeah, we'll see. Post-college life has been good so far. While I miss the free time that I had in school and miss being able to go out with people whenever I wanted and stuff, I was really feeling the urge to get out into the real world and start up my career and living on my own and stuff, so for now, one out of two ain't bad. It's not my ideal job (I'd like to work on budgets for the government or for a company that's more interesting to me), but I'm at least doing budget stuff and getting good experience out of it. Now it's just a waiting game to move out at some point.

I moved out about a year after graduating college. Stay as long as possible.

Well my girlfriend and I are a 6 hour drive apart (until she moves to Malaysia...then it'll be a tad longer lol), so we don't need the privacy for more than a weekend here or there. We're definitely looking forward to eventually moving off on our own though, but we want to get our feet under ourselves first.

                  Re: OS Life Advice Thread

I moved out at 19 and struggled for a bit, but worked hard and saved money so I was rarely in any trouble after the first couple years. It helped having roommates all the time to split bills. My advice is learn how to cook because you'll spend most of your money going out. No shame using coupons or having to ramen your way to survive. I also had to sacrifice gaming a bit and get like 2-3 games a year. It helped that my roommates gamed so we could share games and didn't have to get every game.

I remember draining my account at a strip club once but learned my lesson after that. Didn't go back for years lol.

Another thing too was having to drink Steele Reserve 40s to get drunk. God awful but it did the trick.

Got an old Honda Accord that served me for almost 7 years. That thing was a life saver and glad it didn't cost much to take care of.

Your gonna make mistakes, everyone does but that's how you learn the best but don't be afraid to make them. Just do your best not to get your account balance to zero and the only food you have in your pantry is a can of spam. I still have nightmares of that day.

^^^^^ I'd go with Ramen noodles, before SPAM if trying to cut cost. At least you have more variety (ton of salt though).

I try not to use the salt pack if i could. I would throw in a can of tuna, and mix in some siracha and you got yourself a cheap meal.

If I used the salt pack, i would always throw in two eggs and mix it up

The liquor I used to buy was so low grade it didn't even get its own shelf. I had to grab it out of a crate in the corner.

Mickeys for me lol. Took those out of the brown bag to show off.

Also would drink about a quarter of it and put orange juice to top it off.

I applied to Pilot a few weeks ago and recently got an E-mail about "open interviews" on January 6th from 9 AM- 6PM or around that time. I plan on showing up at 9, but a friend who works there says to show up 15 minutes early. If I do that, is it a better chance at getting the job?
