Like others have said, do your best to avoid a fight. It seems like this kid has a screw loose and its really best to avoid a physical confrontation with a person like that.

With that said I think you handled it fine. Someone was threatening your family, and you stepped in. Nothing wrong with that.

Nice to see you didn't have to fight him. I'm 27 and never been in a fight which is surprising since I run my mouth a lot.

I apparently punched some kid when I was 5 and in kindergarten, though I really don't remember it. Nothing since, though. I haven't been in a situation where I even thought it was an option (through public school and undergrad).

BTW, if the OP was to hypothetically fight in place of his brother, couldn't that give away the impression that his brother is a coward (real or imagined)? I'm not sure; just something to think about. I wouldn't get involved and, as it seems to have turned out, the guy was all talk and no action, as these things usually turn out being.

And when I said that, I didn't mean to sound cocky at all, or that I was gonna knock him out, i just meant I'd probably get him on the ground (I'm bigger than him) and just kind hold him until someone breaks it up.

I love OS, where "take him out with a couple quick punches" = sitting on him.
