Re: Things that took you way too long to realize....

My in-laws have always salted everything, but the past 3 years or so it's gotten even worse. MIL is a Southern cook mama - so she uses butter and salt. They will add salt at the table, too. Meanwhile, I'm barely tasting greenbeans underneath all the salt crystals.

I've never added salt to foods and I rarely like using it when cooking. Personally, salt makes everything taste the same so your palate is going to be "bland" when eating something else. After I cut out chips and processed foods (especially frozen meals) it didn't take long for my palate to adjust and actually start tasting those other flavors.

Its like every time I grab a bag of chips, by the end of it I'm wondering why I actually enjoy eating them. After a couple bites they're just stale salt and corn.

A few years ago, I tried the "lightly-salted" varieties of chips. They're supposed to use half the salt as regular chips. Suddenly, I could actually taste the potato or corn in the chips and, now, regular chips are too salty for me.

Any more if I want chips it's typically tortilla chips and salsa (or guacamole).

I always assumed Moby Dick was a regular whale, I didn't realise this is where the term hunting a white whale came from.

Customer loyalty means next to nothing.

I've known this for a while, but becomes more apparent during times like this.

I knew it didnt always mean much, but I thought it carried even some weight where you could be like "I've been a customer for 10+ years" when talking about a service and at least have it mean something, but turns out new customers get treated better than old ones.

My cable/internet plan was coming up, and rather than keep my price the same or lower it, they jacked it up. But new customers get significant discounts compared to me.

And my bank, I opened up a new account, and they said they couldn't offer their advertised bonuses for new accounts because it only applied to new customers coming from other banks.

Even stores I regularly order online from, I had issues with an order, contacted them, they were of no help. Some other places I never shopped at before, I had an issue there, contacted them, they helped out immediately and some even offered compensation credits.

at some point a few companies started thinking once they have your business, they have it forever. they better think again and start protecting what they have. the biggest one that completely failed me and I have left for greener pastures and haven't looked back is NASCAR. I used to be a diehard but no more. and I only live a few miles from Talladega. also, at first I thought I could do just fine w/o Subway's roast beef and just pretty much switch over to turkey but Tuesday I'm gonna seek out somewhere else to get my roast beef sub. I feel like I should be venting this in the gear-grinder

another embarrassing Seinfeld moment I missed:

Elaine dated the sax player. He didn't do "everything". I misinterpreted what "everything" meant. When he finally did "it" and performed horribly for the talent scouts, I figured it was because Elaine rocked his world and he was shook.

When I finally figured out what "everything" meant and how it affected his ability to play the sax I was like OHHHH!

It took me way too long to realize the old Atlanta Hawks logo was a Hawk. Sounds dumb, but I just always saw it from the right side looking like Pac-Man or a hawk's beak eating something. I didn't realize it until maybe 7 years ago when they were changing up the logos I think. I've been watching basketball since I was a kid, and yet didn't see it from that perspective until I was about 29. Now I can't unsee it, and it bothers me.

My friend Chris teases me about it all the time. He gets a kick out of it.

Yes! Same here. Almond milk is the truth when it comes that stuff.

A Streetcar Named Desire, for some whatever reason I thought it actually said Desiré as in the name.

And mind you, I watched the movie years ago and there is no character in the movie named Desiré that I recall

I've only seen that name spelled like Desiree.

Though I can imagine the weird look on someone's face the first time they heard you say that movie's title.
