It took me way too long to realize the old Atlanta Hawks logo was a Hawk. Sounds dumb, but I just always saw it from the right side looking like Pac-Man or a hawk's beak eating something. I didn't realize it until maybe 7 years ago when they were changing up the logos I think. I've been watching basketball since I was a kid, and yet didn't see it from that perspective until I was about 29. Now I can't unsee it, and it bothers me.

My friend Chris teases me about it all the time. He gets a kick out of it.

Although it didn't take me as long, I thought it was a pac man forever too. I watched way too much Hawks basketball when I was a kid to not realize it. I miss when you could get games on antenna tv.

I definitely thought it was Pac Man for the longest time. What's even worse is that it never occurred to me to question why the Atlanta Hawks logo was a Pac Man eating a dot.

I'm learning this very second that everything in Monopoly is based off real world places?

(I mean I'm sure many exist by happenstance, but I didn't know they are references to specific locales)

I think they're all real, but I guess I must have confused Park Place as Park Avenue and Boardwalk as Broadway

I recently heard that PG-13 movies will not show deaths where the victim's eyelids remain open.

I have to kind of sit back and think about/verify that information with movies that I've seen, but that may in fact be true. Google isn't really helping me out here, so far.

EDIT: Meh, forget what I said. I already thought of a movie that definitely does not hold true with this notion. However, this particular scene doesn't show the death in the take so that they are maybe suffering and in the same shot they just wither away, either. Maybe it has to do with not cutting away or something.

I always thought there was a rating in between PG-13 and R, but I guess I must have been thinking between PG and R, and apparently PG-13 is it. put me in the uncommon opinions camp here, PG-13 needed a different name when it was added to the mix. maybe something like R-PG

PG-13 can get away with quite a bit sometimes.

Anyway, the UK's rating system from the BBFC has a 15-rating. I believe it's the equivalent to our R, though.

Yeah, again it just makes me wonder if they mean you need to cut away from their moment of dying if you want them to stay open.

But I still don't think this is the case. I'm thinking of "Don't tell Harry" in Sam Raimi's SM1, and I'm starting to think I've been duped with this statement.

Basically, this started when somebody was trying to justify a poorly acted death in The Dark Knight Rises, saying one's eyes need to close upon dying in PG-13 movies.

I don't think the film board ratings system gets that granular in terms of what does/doesn't constitute a particular rating. My impression has always been that it's more of a gestalt impression, given how wildly inconsistent the ratings are regarding language, violence, sex, etc. Clearly there are some red lines (e.g. the "F" word), although even that I can think of a few notable exceptions to.

It never made any sense to me that the Woody Allen movies are all rated "R", for example, while movies with a heck of a lot more violence and language are frequently PG-13 or whatever. So stupid.

Ratings dont make much sense to me.

They also change with the times. I know for wrestling, those memorable things from the 90s, lots of it was actually on PGTV.

You see a show from the 90s or so with a PG rating, but a show nowadays might need a 14+ rating for similar content.

I definitely remember seeing movies and shows where someone dies and their eyes are open. It often leads to the scene where someone puts their hand completely over the person's eyes to close it (other than the actor who dies just closes it themselves without anyone actually touching it).

Although there is a grey line. Sometimes they "die off screen" but you see the moment which leads to them getting killed, maybe they died a split second after going off screen to avoid those rules of not showing the actual death on camera, but it definitely happens on PG/14+ shows or movies.

Although with Netflix, ratings almost go out the window. A movie is 14+ on TV with bleeps, but Netflix has the same thing as 14+ with no bleeps. I learned that the awkward way when watching Planet of the Apes with a family member and even though the movie was 14+, there was a random uncensored F bomb near the end.
