Off Topic Episode 2016: The Posts Awaken
I missed the wrestling talk but the only thing I ever did besides just messing around as a kid was in 7th grade I did the "You can't see me sign" at a kid and then threw a dictionary at him across the English room. I was not too fond of that punk ***
I was supposed to get detention, but I never went. Not even sure my parents found out somehow, guess after elementary as long as you didn't murder someone it was alright.

Re: Off Topic Episode 2016: The Posts Awaken
I hate the company I work for.
Last year around this time, they cut the pay of our entire site by 10%.
Today, they told around 50 people that in 30 days they will no longer be employed as an FTE. They can apply as a contractor thru a temp service to potentially keep their job.
So underhanded...it's ridiculous.

My wife is in the home building industry and they are hurting bad, I've had two buddies laid off, and I've seen businesses which have been here 20+ years close their doors. It's a bad situation right now and we need some change soon to get this back on the right track.
If you've been following the DOL proposed changes you would know it will hurt if not kill small businesses and further drive us into a socialist driven economy.
I guess my long point, I feel your pain/frustration......sadly though it doesn't look too bright for our future. I hope it changes for the better to support middle class working Americans, I just have my doubt with our current direction.Last edited by Phobia; 03-02-2016, 05:45 PM.Comment

Re: Off Topic Episode 2016: The Posts Awaken
I'm sure Louisiana is far more severe in terms of the economy than North Carolina...not only because of the after effects of Katrina but the oil prices, etc.
I just think that corporations devalue their employees too much when it's the front line who deliver the revenue. I work as a senior analyst in an AR facility so take this example for some of the front line folks:
30 accounts assigned to 3 different people @ $35K/salary each
30 accounts assigned to 2 different people @ $45K/salary each
Option two seems to entirely miss executives most times. If you find GOOD talent who are accountable and pay them 25-30% more (to do in turn do more), they usually will return the company that investment since they know they are being paid well and will (normally?) go the extra mile. Most importantly, the company saves $15K/year.
Me specifically...my boss has been great to me giving me small bonuses, raises, even taking me out to lunch. In turn, I work around 50-60 HRs (far more than I should) because I not only care about my job but I want to show my boss I'm good enough for the salary I make.
Who knows...I'm not in HR nor am I a manager (I don't like dealing with people's drama!), but I just saw really great talent just kicked to the curb. I am sick to my stomach with office politics and looking purely at how fast work can be done vs. the talent doing it and investing in people to in turn advance the company.

Tonight's episode of Star Wars Rebels was incredible.
As a Star Wars fan, it's an amazing time. Star Wars on tv, a new movie coming out this December, episode 8 coming in 2017, there's a good video game and Star War toys in stores. I'm so damn happy.Last edited by mike24forever; 03-02-2016, 10:54 PM.I am the lesson after the fall.Comment

Totally agree Speedy. Seems like a lot of people who run companies don't know what they're doing. I didn't go to school for marketing/advertising, but the way a lot of companies present themselves is absolutely puzzling. I've thought that this type of stuff was common sense, but I'm seeing just how wrong that assumption was.
They can't figure out their own public image, but then want to tighten up on essential areas and overwork or underpay their hardworking employees. Maybe if you didn't dump thousands of dollars into changing your slogan or appearance or business model every other year you wouldn't have to cut costs in areas that shouldn't be seeing downsizes or paycuts.
There's a lot of people in high up positions that don't belong there.
I've seen plenty of people climb the ladder and then when they get far enough, just... stop giving a ****. I don't get that mentality but it's prevalent. It usually comes around to bite them in the ***, but that can also mean it's costing people their jobs; people who don't deserve to be laid off.
I'm helping grow a small business now and laying the groundwork for future employees, of whom will be working under me. Never been in this position before and I'm not a big manager guy (though have been in semi-management roles at multiple jobs simply because I do my job and do it well whatever it has been), but I take it very seriously that I hire someone who gives a damn and is willing to work hard. In turn, I'll be willing to treat them well. I think investing in the PEOPLE of your company is hugely worthwhile. Unfortunately, management looks at numbers alone and make decisions without full context. Like judging a QB by his wins when there's so much more to how or why that number is what it is.NHL - Philadelphia Flyers
NFL - Buffalo Bills
MLB - Cincinnati Reds

Re: Off Topic Episode 2016: The Posts Awaken
Come to Louisiana and you will see sheer devastation from an economic standpoint. This oil crash has destroyed our economy! Across the board, our area has seen layoffs everywhere, pay cuts, and reduced hours allowed to work. If you are unlucky enough to be in an oil related job here in Louisiana, you are worrying about your job. I'm lucky enough to be more so in the medical side but we are still feeling the repercussions from the oil industry, our profits are down around 50%.
