Yeah, I'm definitely not gonna argue and say you're wrong. Even prevailing theories have been blown out of the water. Our knowledge about the origins of the universe is still in its infancy. I mean up until the early 90s most scientists weren't even sure there were planets outside of our solar system. Now we think there are about 40 billion Earth-like planets in our own galaxy alone.

Ha yeah, most movies about space are horribly inaccurate.

And I'll have to check out the Kerbal thing.

Kerbel Space Program is good fun.
        (just one more rocket build!!!)

Try Take on Mars as well...(one of the writers from PC Gamer re-enacted The Martian in the game....)

I'll try and get some pics of my Scope up.

          It's a bit old...but a really nice viewing scope.

Re: The Astronomy and Physics thread. And things of the like.

Here's a fun little program that I got from an Astronomy Picture of the Day called Super Planet Crash.

Basically your given a system consisting of a star and an Earth-like planet in a close orbit and you can add additional bodies (Earth, Super-Earth, ice giant, gas giant, brown dwarf, dwarf star) up to 12 bodies and the simulation runs for 500 years or until an object hits against the barrier set at 2 astronomical units (AU). Unfortunately the parameters are rather limited in that the simulation will end if any object hits the barrier and the set 2 AU barrier makes it a rather compact system (2 AU is about the radius of Mars' orbit around the Sun).

I spent some time trying to find a more sandbox type planetary system simulator where I could really mess with parameters, but was unsuccessful. The best I could find was this.

See the Solar System in your browser with jsOrrery, a Javascript / WebGL orbital mechanics simulator.

In the 'Scenario' menu you can pick if Jupiter was 1000x its mass and watch what happens

That Super Planet Crash is pretty cool.

I am so excited for No Man's Sky. Obviously not a realistic space sim, but being able to explore vast space and different planets sounds like something I could play for hours on end.

There's a theory out there that's pretty interesting that explains why we may be the only "intelligent" life out there. I'll see if I can find it.

If its the one I'm thinking of, its been making the rounds over the last week. It basically says all the Aliens are dead and deals with the Fermi Paradox.

I personally don't buy it at all. At least not when it comes to outside our galactic neighborhood.

No this was from awhile ago but it might be the same. I'm not sure. It was from Reddit or some similar website. It was pretty long dealing with different scenarios.

Oh okay. I still don't think that's true though. 40 billion potential Earth like planets in our own galaxy, and we are a small galaxy to boot. Multiply that by billions upon billions of galaxies. I just can't see how we are the only ones.
