I go to Kroger typically (depending upon where you live you may or may not know who they are) and they have a bunch of young kids who bag up the groceries on larger orders.

It's funny because despite losing some aspects of customer service we are gaining others.

For example, as depending upon your age (I am 46) you may or may not recall when gas stations, the large majority of them anyways, would come out and pump your gas without you getting out of your car.

And at the grocery store, Kroger specifically we are losing the ability to have a clerk ring us up and a kid bag our groceries as more and more of the self service kiosks are used, BUT we are also gaining the ability to order your groceries online and have them waiting for you at the store.

I tried this 2 weeks ago and wow it was easy but it didn't quite work the way I'd want it to. I got about $150 worth of groceries online, scheduled my pickup, went to Kroger and then had to wait about an hour to get my groceries. The kid working the dock apologized to me and said someone had called off work.

So the concept is good I guess, you can order online, go to the store and pick it all up and pay your bill and be on your way all without getting out of your car...but the execution wasn't. In the hour it took for me to wait I could have just gone in and shopped and got it done myself.

I am most certainly all for self service as it does make it faster and easier on all of us. But sometimes the company will need to actually provide the service for the customer if they have issues. This is the issue I'm speaking of.
Isn't that what happened in the end? You didn't do it yourself.

I still fail to see the slippery slope of this specific situation.

Yes, in the end, after a bit of back and forth. If I hadn't followed up, or the situation would have worked out differently if not for my insistence it's an unknown though if it would have simply worked out on its own.

        In my experience highly unlikely.

Back in March I placed an order for 3 games with release date guaranteed delivery.

First thing showed up in June, no issue.

Second thing was Forza Horizon 3, showed up a day late, contacted Amazon they credited my account 1 month Prime.

Third shipment was a day late, this time being FF15. Contact Amazon, they claim because they already credited me a month of free Prime for this order they can't do anything for me. It sets a crappy precedent because if you make an multi-order shipment over multiple dates and more than one part goes wrong Amazon will claim they already fixed the issue. So now anytime I order something with specific release dates, I make sure that I only order that item in one shot versus getting 2 or more things so each shipment is its own thing.
I love Amazon, Prime has almost never done me wrong, but I have a similar issue with ordering games to arrive on release day. When I order with RD shipping from Best Buy, I get home at 4 from work and the game is there waiting for me without fail, done this 20+ times.

For some reason, and it's only release day shipping games, Amazon can't get them here before 8 PM, no idea why. I remember WWE 2K15 specifically, the package was marked delivered at around 7, and there was nothing there so I called immediately and asked if there was a mistake. Was told no, and that UPS said they had shipped it (required no signature). They gave me the refund as I thought it had been shipped elsewhere, then it showed up at my house an hour later and I got to keep it for free after telling Amazon it had gotten there. I guess the UPS guy had already marked it shipped (the delivery said it was supposed to be there before 8 so maybe them and Amazon have an agreement with things being marked delivered on time, I'm not sure). Obviously they weren't gonna take it back or anything, but I liked that they offered the refund, Amazon in particular in my experience is GOAT customer service. I guess they make so much money they care more about the people than the products, but I've never had an issue where they couldn't give me Prime time, a refund, they take care of their people.

Long story short, I think UPS might just suck when paired with Amazon because they ship my Best Buy games as well and those have no issues.

I'm always worried to get a release day game from Amazon....I so rarely do it, and if I do I want it at home when I get home from work...

Otherwise I have great experiences with Prime.

From my experiences, there's never a benefit of getting crazy angry and going off on someone. If you can control your emotions then get to a manager and calmly explain things and they usually help customers out....

I've never gone "oh man, i wish i lit that CSR up, things would have gone better", you know?

One of your most recent ones is a puzzling review of Panera, though.

It makes this whole thread some sort of sick tease in comparison.

Re: The Death of Customer Service...

Story time I wish I didn't have to tell...

So as previously mentioned I ordered a rug + rug pad from West Elm. They sent the rug pad and the incorrect rug that I ordered. I called and they stated they would send out the rug and pick up the incorrect rug. They didn't pick up the rug this past Monday so I went ahead and called them today to let them know that it wasn't picked up. The lady told me that I needed to take off the prior shipping labels so UPS could pick up the item. This was not told to me during my first phone call so they set up another pickup. Not a big deal I just wanted to make sure they knew the rug was still here so they wouldn't think I'm trying to keep the rug and get another one.

I then go ahead and ask if she has an ETA of the new rug since there wasn't an email sent with any tracking information. She says it should come on 12/22 and I'm happy with that. She then says actually it looks like it's out for delivery today so I should be getting it soon. So I'm really happy to hear that.

I get a text from the leasing office that says "Your rug is here". I happily walk up and discover they sent me another rug pad and not the rug. I'm obviously pretty disappointed so I'm just going to a retail store which is downtown and going to make sure the next order is right. And yes I am going to see if they will do something for there multiple mistakes.

So I get the rug in my '16 Honda Accord Sport (you'll see why I mention the vehicle info in a sec) and I'm about 1/2 mile from the store when I go through a green light and I'm crashed into by another driver. My car is totaled. Driver side air bag and front air bag both deployed. I am a very defensive driver and I tried to avoid the crash but it wasn't possible. The intersection I went through is very big and confusing. I'm not sure what he was doing but my guess is that he ran a red light. I'm not sure if my light just flipped green and I went through it but it definitely was green. I'm not injured badly...but I am having some pain in my forearm. The other guy started crying and went to the hospital...he was very shaken up. He was walking around though and now obvious injury.

Called West Elm back once I got home and notified them of the issue. I probably shouldn't have called so soon because I could've been nicer. They're sending out the correct rug and it should get here by 12/24 and they are dropping the shipping costs and said I could keep the rug pad. That rug pad is a bad omen and I might go burn it tonight.

Needless to say I'm having quite the month and wondering what I did to piss off whoever or whatever you believe in.

I'm grateful I'm not seriously injured and either is the other guy. But now the headache of dealing with insurance and hoping I'm made whole.
