I wouldn't say I dread it, but something has definitely changed this past year and especially after the fork episode this Summer.

        Oh ok.

Still think getting out would be best.

Unfortunately not right now. Maybe soon though.
I can't shave with my eyes closed, meaning each day I have to look at myself in the mirror and respect who I see.

So, I think I'm going to start looking for a new job. I've basically worked for two companies my whole life (6.5 years at the current job) so this will be somewhat unfamiliar territory for me. This weekend I updated my resume.

I feel conflicted about it. Tax season is approaching and I don't want to feel like I'm leaving people "high and dry," but I can't keep paying these exorbitant health insurance premiums on my own for much longer. The increases have been outpacing my raises the past two years as my premium increases to nearly $400 in January. My boss seems uninterested in attempting to alleviate this for us and I'm not the type to go gravel for money or assistance.

Money issues aside I just haven't felt good about coming to work here for a long time (at least since being literally yelled at about having to buy forks). I haven't had an evaluation as I normally would even though I received my "cost of living" increase this year. Being guilt tripped over taking time off and a reduction of my tax season bonus by half are signals to me it's probably time to part ways.

If I felt my boss was receptive to talking about whatever issues I feel there are I would gladly approach him, but considering his temperament I feel things would crumble fairly quickly.
If you haven't felt good about going to work there for a long time, it's probably time to start thinking about moving on. It's not the best situation for sure, but the truth of the matter is that the best way to continue to advance your career (in most cases) is to leave and keep moving jobs once you feel like you've plateaued at your current position. Not that the only consideration is (or should be) continual advancement, but in my experience, if you're seriously starting to think about leaving, you're already gone - it's just a matter of when you actually finally walk out the door.

Having said all that, you're in the best possible position to find a better fit for you - you already have a job. As the cliché goes, the best time to look for a job is when you already have one. It gives you the luxury to evaluate, take your time, look at a couple of different opportunities, and negotiate (!). All of which you should definitely do.

In the end, in an ideal situation, the "pull" should be greater than the "push" (in other words, the feeling of being excited or drawn to a new job should outweigh the feeling of you just wanting the get the hell out of your current job....although both feelings might be there at the same time, of course).

          Good luck!

There was even this moment when rush hour traffic cleared up ahead and the car behind me flashed me to speed up, I tried to push 3rd gear and my check-engine light started blinking for about a minute straight, and turned off again.

Anyone know what any of this is about, or means?
Mass air flow boot? Other exhaust-related issue? Ignition coil?

I've had this issue before - or at least something that sounds similar to what you're describing. For me it was a significant front exhaust leak.

Do you know what kind of cost it was for you to get it fixed?

I know some day I'm going to get a new car, but with my current funds I'm hoping that is a much later venture, say 3-5 years from now.

By the way, typo on my mileage. I'm at 210k, not 220k.

For me, all-in (replaced exhaust pipe prior to catalytic converter, replaced catalytic converter, replaced some other belts and minor things) it ended up being about $800.

Doesn't Cali have strict emissions laws ?

I just assumed every Honda Civic, Accord, Prelude, etc. from the 90s and earlier either had a gutted Cat or just had a straight pipe welded in it's place.

I was one of those losers.. took mine off and cleaned it out and bolted it back up. I only had a glasspack though.. not some ridiculous 3" tip

They do, but if you've recently passed emissions, you can get away for a few years sometimes. So, as with everything in life, timing is everything.

                      Glasspack....I love it.

If ''A Christmas Story'' is the best Christmas movie from the 1980's,
which is the second best : ''Gremlins'' or ''Diehard''?

I’ve never seen A Christmas Story. I probably haven’t seen 80% of movies most normal people have seen. I get a lot of grief about it at work.

Christmas Vacation or Scrooged has to be in the 1 spot.
