It's hard though...especially when I got my neighbor playing their franchise across the street...maybe I will occupy myself with Glamore Magazine.Comment

Re: Off Topic 2017: Sports & Halloween
But speaking of full sized candy, a corner store on my street used to give out candy to kids. Actual full sized bars of stuff. I don't know how many people actually knew about this because you'd just walk into the store like normal, but just go trick or treat at the cash register lol. I never knew about that either until one of my friends went with me one time.Comment

Re: Off Topic 2017: Sports & Halloween
The last time I went pre-planned trick-or-treating was 6th grade when I went as a football player. The then-husband of one of my mom's friends was actually an assistant coach for a high school in the area and lent me a spare uniform to wear, though the helmet was too big so I just wore a bike helmet (actually looked more like a hockey helmet). I didn't go in 7th grade, but in 8th grade decided with my cousin and a few of his friends (all in 7th grade) at the last minute and just wore my dad's Jason mask (which was kinda funny since my name actually is Jason), a worn out pair of jeans, and a flannel shirt over a hooded sweatshirt or sweatshirt jacket. We actually bumped in to a few of my classmates who had also decided more-or-less last minute to go out. One of them had just wrapped himself in Ace bandages to be a mummy.Steelers : IX, X, XIII, XIV, XL, XLIII

Reminds me of a Jim Harbaugh interview where he was talking about halloween prep with his kids, they run door to door because it's more efficient and increases candy intake, then change into a second costume and do it again. My doorbell doesn’t work so I think that’s why I didn’t get any trick or treaters. I feel bad as I didn’t even think about it.

This year was weird. People going out later this time. From 6-7, barely anyone. 7-8, more started coming. 8 onwards seemed to be more popular time. Usually 7 is peak, especially on school night.Comment

Was having this convo with some coworkers so I figured I’d ask ya’ll:
On a scale of 1-10(lowest to highest), where would you rank your interest in sports from 10 years ago to 5 years ago to where it currently stands right now?
And if it’s dropped during that time, what would be the reason(Family, Work, Life, etc)?

Re: Off Topic 2017: Sports & Halloween
I think it's hovered around the same level for me. I'm not a fanatic and analysis but if I had to assign a number I'd probably be 7-8.
I never did the fantasy football apart from a couple seasons in high-school and college. I grew up a Redskins fan and was a die-hard. I remember times as a kid I was legit shaking from being so upset with them. The RGIII debacle is probably the catalyst for my losing interest and last year was the first season I didn't watch any regular season game. It was also the first year I followed the Wizards through 82 games.
So basically I left the NFL for the NBA.

Re: Off Topic 2017: Sports & Halloween
Only thing that has dropped for me with sports is back when I saw them as these heroic icons in my life; now, they just feel like people to me (probably because most of the stars are now younger than I am). I feel if I saw LeBron James walking down the street, I'd give him a high five and move on. My friend wrote a letter to Ken Griffey Jr. when he was a young kid and got written back to, and that really felt like something... but with social media now, nothing really feels too personal anymore if you got a response from them (at least not as much).
Same with the stadiums: before they were these exquisite cathedrals and attending a game was a special moment in my life, and now they just feel like high-priced events (though they are still great to go to).
I've also broadened my horizons as a bigger fan of the entirety of the sport than just specific teams, at least in baseball and football. That's probably thanks to fantasy sports, MLB.TV and NFL Sunday Ticket (or just streaming in general). I used to also collect sports cards and played video games more often (which helped expand my infatuation for it), and I don't do that any longer either.
I'd say my love and interest remains the same, but I'm not loving the rules that quicken play for baseball and make football safer (though trust me, I more than understand the latter).Last edited by Blzer; 11-01-2017, 12:12 PM.Samsung PN60F8500 PDP / Anthem MRX 720 / Klipsch RC-62 II / Klipsch RF-82 II (x2) / Insignia NS-B2111 (x2) / SVS PC13-Ultra / SVS SB-2000 / Sony MDR-7506 Professional / Audio-Technica ATH-R70x / Sony PS3 & PS4 / DirecTV HR44-500 / DarbeeVision DVP-5000 / Panamax M5400-PM / Elgato HD60Comment
