So alternative thought to this.... for you guys who refer to your team as "we" and "us", then it would be okay for me to say to you "you" when talking to you about your team?

For example, if you're a Penguins fan, and I think that you guys play dirty, I can simply say to you, "you're nothing but a bunch of dirty players" or "you play dirty" or the like?

I've heard that/used that.

I think it's fine but I guess it's fair to say you would have to know the person you are saying that to does identify to their favorite team as "we."

Right, it would be in response to someone referencing it that way to start.

I still think it's odd though. Because if the person himself is not a dirty player in what he does, then it's not logical.

I don't do it because I don't subscribe to the whole we/us thing in the first place. But what if you did?

I don't do it. I just watch and root. I have no impact on the results so I'm not taking credit or blame.

I know you're intentionally asking a question you already know the answer to but I don't think it's fair to compare individual sports to team sports.

I don't use them, but doesn't really bother me if someone does ... unless that person is really annoying, then I take exception to it.

I use them interchangeably because I'm not so ridiculous that I actually think about what comes out before it does, but I like "we." It actually annoys me that people get annoyed by this.

Sports are a brotherhood. The fans pay to see the product, pay everyone's salaries, bring the energy and interest, etc. We're representatives of the teams we follow to our friends and such.

You bet your *** it's "we."

This sums it all up.
