I'm not on the field, in the dugout/locker room, on the bus/plane. I don't have any effect on the game.

I am not a part of the team, so no, I do not use we or us when referring to professional sports.
My favorite teams are better than your favorite teams

Been a Michigan fan since I was seven and had to suffer through the likes of Nick Sheridan, Steven Threet, and Rich Rod; hell yeah I'm saying "we" and "us". My other teams, I don't think I use those two pronouns a lot.

I invest emotionally and financially in all of my teams, the Orioles moreso than the rest, so I feel like that's suitable justification for using "we".

Even if you don't, who cares. Call your teams whatever you want.

FWIW I don't think even Jamie's Winston says "we" when talking about the Bucs.

And? Is that really a good criterion?

I don't, but I have no issues with it. Us fans buy merch, spends money on tickets, watches the games etc... why not say we?

                      Agreed.

For me there are only two teams that I really cheer for, or at least care if they win or lose. Those are the University of Louisville and the St.Louis Cardinals.

With UofL, it's easier for me to say "we" because of going to school there. And with St. Louis, as I've stated before on OS my Grandpa played in their farm system back in the day and he would always refer to them as "we" as I was growing up, so naturally I just followed his example.
I can't shave with my eyes closed, meaning each day I have to look at myself in the mirror and respect who I see.

I miss the old days of Operation Sports :(

I do it sometimes....more for Michigan than others, but I mostly talk more Arizona sports around here and I'm not as invested quite yet. I do find that I follow my native teams a bit less with the distance. Plus the Lions just suck lol.

Home field advantage is vastly overrated in my opinion.

College sports are different, as well. I am much more inclined to say "we" when talking about my alma mater's sports teams because of my participation as a college athlete.

What I wanna know is what does going to school somewhere have to do with making it "better" to say "we"? Sometimes I see people say "unless you went to that college, then it's ok" or things along those lines.

If you were just a student, then the same "I didn't play, I didn't win the game" stuff holds true too.

No different than your favorite pro team, really.

I say "we" or "us" for several reasons.

                                1) I have a distinction of being called owner in regards to the Packers.

                                2) My ticket buys, merchandise, etc. etc. (along with others) allows the team to be successful and stay in the current market they are at or prevents them from folding.

                                3) The relationship between the fans and the team is symbiotic in nature.
