Re: Anyone else enjoy doing yard work?

I gave up a few years ago. I don't mind doing it but just don't have enough time. Not being a morning person, it's too hot during the summer and not being home enough to regularly do it. Don't like paying so much for cutting, weed control, fertilizer, etc but I just couldn't keep up with it anymore.

Just bought a new 21" EGO Electric mower....love the fact it has push start and is so much quieter than a gas mower!

Re: Anyone else enjoy doing yard work?

First lawn cutting of the season. Much needed. Grass itself was probably 6 inches high at least. Edges has some blades a foot high.

Had to empty the bag 3 times!

Not by choice since the weather has been bad, but I'm never letting it grow like this again. Way too big.

I have a 13amp mower, and am using a 10 amp cord. I know the cord should be more amps than what's being plugged in, but would that setup be fine? 10 amp cords are under $30, but 15 amp 100ft cords seem to be around $100! Weirdly enough, 50 foot 15amp cords are $25, but I'm not sure how safe it is connecting two cords.

I'm only mowing lawn for maybe 15-30 minutes at a time(15 mins in front, 30 mins in back), so hopefully the setup doesn't cause overheating.

It depends on your breaker and what else is on it. Then the mower probably uses up to 13, but may not always use that much. Which is why you may not be having issues. Long-term you should get a higher rated cord.

Plugging 2 together shouldn't be a problem as long as they are good quality and have enough amps. You don't want to always power something like that but for temporary use it is fine. Just loop them so they don't come unplugged.

Overheating should trip the breaker as long as everything is working, but you don't want to have a failure and cause a fire.

Breaker has tripped in past. I guess it's a good thing. I had an old cord which just burnt in half(no fire fortunately).

This was probably biggest job I'd be using it for. Grass was so big(and still slightly damp),so it was probably forcing mower to work twice as hard. First cut since around Halloween. Usually I'd cut by Easter, but weather hasn't been good.

The mower is only thing that'll be on and using power on my outside breaker so hopefully it's fine.

I've always used 10 amp cords, though I've never had a mower as powerful as this.

Probably will just try the 10amp and hope it's fine.

Re: Anyone else enjoy doing yard work?

I don't mind doing it but the older I get the more my allergies flare up. The last time I was working in the garden something bit me and my eyes and lips started swelling up that night. That sucked. I always wear long pants/sleeves too.

My biggest problem with my yard is weeds blowing over from my neighbors yards. They don't keep up with their yards at all (well one kinda does but their older so I can understand a little) and where our edges meet I get weeds (dandelions, crab grass, etc...).

I do need to pick up an edger though. I love how neat they make your grass edges look.

Re: Anyone else enjoy doing yard work?

I love doing yard work. This year I took over doing the treatments for my lawn. Bought a bag of crabgrass preventer/weed and feed and a spreader and laid it all down the night before a big ran the Sunday before this past one. Wend around and spot sprayed creeping Charlie and violets prior. I like mowing and trimming as well. Hate raking leaves however and bagging them.

The last 3 summers in our house I paid to have the lawn treated. It was full weeds when we moved in and how it's to a point when I can maintain it. I'm doing a 4 step treatment program this year and will be putting down the 2nd step with weed and feed application next month.

We have a nice backyard with a patio and I like keeping it looking nice. Plus we have a good sized garden as well that I enjoy helping my wife with.

This year I've decided to go to war against weeds. Typically it's just wiregrass which is frustrating enough, but this year the clover is nuts. Heck, the clover is taking over the wiregrass in some spots. Anyway, fertilized the yard this week. I've been pulling and digging weeds up. Hopefully later this week I can spray the the bigger spots and start laying grass seed down.

Make sure to scour the yard for 4 leafers first! Can't risk eradicating potential charms until you know for sure

This is the first year I can say I’ve enjoyed yard work. I guess when you start getting older, you start to take pride in these things. My main problem is, I’m struggling to grow grass in this small area in my back yard.

It has some hard pan soil which I rented a tiller machine and dug up, laid some Scott’s premium dirt mixed with some compost dirt and still no luck. It’s in a area when it has limited sun for parts of the day. I’ve thrown about 5 different seeds and nothing works. I water it everyday, put straw, seed booster etc.

Anyone have any suggestions before I buy some sod? I live in TN and have tried Southern Mix and everything in between.

I've had several bare spots that I just till some, add a bunch of grass seed then a bunch of water via my hose and in a few days there comes a bunch of grass.

I have never messed with adding extra dirt, soil or any thing other than just grass seed and water

Is it under a tree? Tree could have killed the soil. 1st get the soil tested to figure out what you need. Then you need to get some shade grass or try one of the complete products that has mulch mixed. Those should grow as long as you water it everyday.

What frustrating is that it grows in other areas, just not in that one section. I even bought some of that quick contractors mix that should grow anywhere.

I have a big tree, but it’s on the other side of our wooden fence that hangs over the back yard. The area is close to a concrete patio. I thought about getting the soil tested, but grass grows all around the area.
