On a somewhat related topic. Has anyone had success with DIY mosquito treatment? We have a pest control service, but I still get eaten alive in my yard no matter how many times they spray.

For outdoor, maybe use those zapping lights/lanterns? Those coils I think are outdoor and maybe indoor use too?

I know for indoor, those mosquito zapping rackets are good. They look like a tennis racket. Get ones that plug in to recharge, battery ones aren't as good.

I went on vacation to the Caribbean one year and everyone there had one or more of those things. Use it in the bathroom, it's like firecrackers going off lol.

But if theres too many outside (like when heres hundreds of gnats in one spot in the evenings), the racket might get overworked. If it's just like a dozen or so at once that's fine.

They only work in the dark when you wouldn't be doing yard work.

And they don't actually work well for mosquitoes either way as they aren't attracted to the light. The zappers usually catch other insects and often times beneficial insects.

I have torches that burn a Citronella substance around the area's in my yard where we hang out. They work. Here are some DIY non toxic things that you might want to try.

Most commercial bug repellents can cause health and environmental problems. Learn about natural repellents that actually work.

Either this is isolation boredom or something that needs to get done....I'm gonna mow the lawn BEFORE easter.

I looked at this thread last year and saw I did so to start May, but it was a pain to do because of how much it grew. I guess getting a 3 week head start is a good idea, even if all my neighbors are home probably thinking I'm crazy for mowing the lawn when it's gonna be close to freezing temps by Tuesday.

One side will cut it on a semi-regular basis but their lawn is almost weeds. The other side doesn't cut it that often and it's infested with weeds. I've invested a decent amount of time and money into keeping my yard weed free (still have a few spots here & there) but when you drive by house the difference between my yard and theirs is night & day. Let me grab a pic:

My yard is on the right and as you can see, not only does their grass suck but they also must have mowed their yard drunk smh. This is the first time they’ve done that though and they’re pretty nice people in general.
I said last year my neighbor isnt as bad as your pic.

This year...its horrible. They're literally the only people on my block who haven't mowed their lawn yet, and they dont maintain anything. So their front lawn honestly looks like an abandoned house. They dont own an edge trimmer either, so the edge of the lawn near the road is growing over the curb and about to end up onto the road itself.

If they were an old person next door I knew, I'd offer to help. They have a friend who comes over from time to time, but they dont help out, and that friends car itself looks so horribly maintained and ALWAYS dirty, like even when its raining, the dirt and dust is like stuck on the entire car.

I also suspect they have rats living in/under their deck, so the property overall is so poorly maintained. I know whoever buys this house next is 100% breaking it down and building a new one.

On the plus side, it makes mine look way better. It already looks good, but compared to next door, mine seems like a baseball field.

I work for a landscaping company and I mow everyday. One of the other local landscapers has gotten these things and is putting them on customers lawns. I see them things in the ditch all the time, the lawn looks like crap and they send a guy around once a week to do the trimming and it takes him an hour to do one lawn. It seems these things miss a lot of areas that you could get with a mower.

I can understand as a homeowner having them if you don't care about what your lawn looks like as long as it's cut, but I don't understand hiring a landscaping company only to have them put those things on your lawn.

Those things can never make a lawn look like this.

If I thought I could get a robot mower that does as well as our robot vacuum I certainly would.

Scott, how do they handle flowerbeds/no mow areas and terrain?

My biggest problem with our yard is wiregrass running throughout the yard.

This one has a boundary line that you have the dealer install. However, iRobot is making one called the Terra, I'll be selling my husqvarna's when the Terra is released.
