    re: Off-Topic

Taking this highly controversial subject from a different angle, I find beards to be hygienically....what's the word I'm looking for....gross? I mean, I suppose I have no idea how well/often people really wash theirs, but even if it's frequently (defined however you want), it's a bunch of hair immediately around the nose/mouth area that is constantly being breathed, sneezed, eaten around 24-7. I'm not a germaphobe or anything, but thick, bushy beards are basically nests for bacteria.

I want to put it in the gear-grinders thread, but instead I'll spin it into a question.

All y'all on here with beards... how do you cope with putting sunscreen on as well?

No matter what I do, throughout the day it always eventually finds its way to the beard and completely whitens it.

Spray sunscreen. I don't do the lotion kind.

And they do hold bacteria, but I'm pretty sure it's still cleaner than the inside of our mouths or our hands. I wash mine with shampoo every time I shower.

I tend to do spray anywhere but my face. That just gets into my eyes.

And yes, I do close them.

I’ve grow out my beard in the past, but I found I was too lazy to care for it properly. So I shave. But it grows pretty fast, so I’ve basically got a permanent five o’clock shadow, anyways.

Look at it more as a filter that keeps your face and nose and mouth cleaner than non bearders.

Counterpoint: one of the common characteristics given when defining "mammals" is the presence of hair. I'm with evolution on this one. Even dolphins are born with mustaches. You don't hate Flipper, do you?

I recently learned native Americans couldn't grow beards, and everyone else is an alien, including bigfoot.

I just got cable back and it was a slow sports day.

I mostly have a beard because I had to shave almost every day in the Navy. There really isn't much upkeep. I just comb it out after I get out of the shower and that's it. My wife gave me this home made beard bomb thing once and I did that for a bit to make her see I used it, but it's not necessary.

Shaving every day is the real ****ing hassle. You don't think so until you're forced to do it.

Plus it helps protect the face from sunlight, keeping it younger looking. Positives.
