Taking this highly controversial subject from a different angle, I find beards to be hygienically....what's the word I'm looking for....gross? I mean, I suppose I have no idea how well/often people really wash theirs, but even if it's frequently (defined however you want), it's a bunch of hair immediately around the nose/mouth area that is constantly being breathed, sneezed, eaten around 24-7. I'm not a germaphobe or anything, but thick, bushy beards are basically nests for bacteria.

I want to put it in the gear-grinders thread, but instead I'll spin it into a question.
All y'all on here with beards... how do you cope with putting sunscreen on as well?
No matter what I do, throughout the day it always eventually finds its way to the beard and completely whitens it.Samsung PN60F8500 PDP / Anthem MRX 720 / Klipsch RC-62 II / Klipsch RF-82 II (x2) / Insignia NS-B2111 (x2) / SVS PC13-Ultra / SVS SB-2000 / Sony MDR-7506 Professional / Audio-Technica ATH-R70x / Sony PS3 & PS4 / DirecTV HR44-500 / DarbeeVision DVP-5000 / Panamax M5400-PM / Elgato HD60Comment

And they do hold bacteria, but I'm pretty sure it's still cleaner than the inside of our mouths or our hands. I wash mine with shampoo every time I shower.

Spray sunscreen. I don't do the lotion kind.

I’ve grow out my beard in the past, but I found I was too lazy to care for it properly. So I shave. But it grows pretty fast, so I’ve basically got a permanent five o’clock shadow, anyways.Comment

re: Off-Topic
I mostly have a beard because I had to shave almost every day in the Navy. There really isn't much upkeep. I just comb it out after I get out of the shower and that's it. My wife gave me this home made beard bomb thing once and I did that for a bit to make her see I used it, but it's not necessary.
Shaving every day is the real ****ing hassle. You don't think so until you're forced to do it.Comment
