Carpal tunnel is something that worries me considering my job and my liking of video games...

No problems yet, but I’m only 26.

I believe he said 3 months to a year but probably the shorter of those two.

If all goes as planned I will probably try to get one more shot at the end of the year and then get the surgery early 2019

Re: Found out two weeks before Madden 19 I have carpal tunnel!

I went to massage therapy school and we were taught that carpal tunnel actually has very little to do with the hands/wrist like most believe.

It actually stems from the neck. The pain you feel down your arm is actually "referred" pain.

The issue people having sitting and working on a computer has more to do with ergonomics than the physical typing. Our bodies are simply not meant to be in that position for extended periods of time. And depending on how we have our desk area set up can really place stress on the neck area.

Combine that with bad sleeping positions at night that only exacerbate the tightness in and around the neck, and we can see why we get carpal tunnel.

There was also data that shows that the surgery isn't really all that effective. The success rate is extremely poor. Some feel better and some don't, which lead researchers to theorize that those that actually feel better may just be experiencing a placebo effect after the procedure. Even a lot of those people that felt better reported that their pain ended up returning.

Im a trainer now. And had a client of mine who worked as a stenographer. She ended up having the surgery in BOTH her wrists. And she said it felt better initially. But the pain came back for her as well.

So my suggestion to you would be to find a really good LICENSED massage therapist and tell them what you are dealing with. Or maybe better yet, acupuncture I would think could actually be great to help alleviate the tightness/contraction in your neck, though I have never had acupuncture work done (haven't needed to). Also, if you're going to the gym, avoid any exercises that have you raising anything about shoulder level. And even if you dont, I would HIGHLY suggest you do some exercises that strengthen your lower trapezius muscle group as weakness in that muscle group from INACTIVITY is overlooked as a cause of neck issues.

If those two options fail, then elect to have surgery. But that's absolute last resort as I don't think that will help much in the end tbh.
