    Anybody else in college?

Just out of curiosity. Figured I’d try to make a blog about college; anybody’s welcome to post.

Currently in my 3rd year of college (I’m 21), spent two years at a community college before moving up to the big leagues. It’s a small college in North Carolina but I love it, I feel welcomed wherever I go and I found my place pretty quickly. I’m taking 15 credit hours so my plate’s pretty full; I want a job but with my schedule and no car, I’m kinda screwed.

Would love to know about the people my age on this forum (if there are any). This can be a place for advice, questions, anything like that. Look forward to talking with you all!

Sophomore at my hometown (and dream) school. Working for the football team, the same team I grew up watching (with the same coach too). I'll turn 20 in a few months.

I'm not in college, but I am the CFO at a community college. I see that you are looking for a job, don't have transportation, and are taking a full credit load. Look into whether you qualify for work study jobs on your campus. They are designed to work around your situation and schedule. Bonus if you can find one that relates to your major.

Overall, the best advice I can give to anyone choosing to go to school is college is what YOU make of it. Anyone can show up and rack up a huge bill for a random 4-year degree without taking advantage of the crazy amount of resources and help available to you. Be a part of campus life, make connections, network with people who are in the industry you are interested in.

If you are having problems such as financial, mental health, academic, etc.... Go see your school's student services office! Do this as soon as possible. You might think your problems are crazy or insignificant, but they are not. The people in that office have seen EVERYTHING. The sooner you seek help, the less deep you're in, and the easier it is to dig out. I can't reiterate enough how many resources there are available at no cost to you (well, actually you paid some of that budget with your tutition). You may never in your life have this luxury again, so take advantage! They are there to help you learn how to deal with these kinds of problems, and it will be a lesson you take with you forever.

Honestly, I just need advice with women. I have no problems making friends, but with girls I’m attracted to, it’s like I can’t function properly lol. School just started and I’ve already made a lot of friends, but not enough of them are female.

Yea don't go to any of those offices for advice on that.

For that, you have bars and parties.

Already been to a few. Thankfully, I’m of age so I can use that liquid courage if I have to.

Just remember, there is a fine line between liquid courage and liquid stupidity. That’s my advice.

Oh and remember it’s best not to log onto OS after an evening of having too much fun. There is a specific reason that part is written into the TOS lol.

Oh believe me, I’ve made the choice to watch what and how much I drink. Wish I could say the same for some of my underage friends...

Getting ready to sign up for a few clubs today. Do interviewers actually consider these in the hiring process?

Probably depends on the career path more than anything. And the type of club. It's more for networking for your own benefit, in my mind. Jobs are as much about who you know than what you know, so it's nice to have connections.

They certainly don't hurt, but I didn't find it to matter much. It probably depends on your field of study, though.

To add to that, as ImTellinTim said, it's what you make of it. If you're the president of the club and organize a charity fundraiser/event, perhaps it gives you a leg up on the next entry level resume. It certainly gives you an answer when the interviewer asks you for an example of taking a leadership role.

PS - I'm also a community college administrator

PPS - To get chicks, be comfortable dancing.
