I think as part of an overall planned "theme" tree, the clear/white lights are generally better, and in the right design, offer a cleaner / classier look overall. However, if you're doing a good old-fashioned "hang-every-ornament-we've-got-on-the-tree" controlled chaos decoration job, I think the colored lights are more festive.

I think for me, it breaks down like this: the adult me thinks from an aesthetic point of view, the white lights are cleaner. But the kid in me (which is who Christmas is really for, frankly...otherwise it's just a few days off of work) has always loved the multicolor lights. I like to change it up year-to-year, but for the past several years, it's been clear white.
I only watched because it starred the actress who plays Caitlin on The Flash. She was in 99% of all scenes.

I like the coloured ones, but people think white is "classier". To be fair, I generally have abit of an old fashioned approach to things, which people, especially ones around my age or older hate because they are often have these "trendy/do what others do/millennial" type mindset. I do things my own way, for myself and nobody else.

My family always used colored lights when I was growing up, so it's what I'm used to and what I use most often now. White lights definitely look cleaner though, no doubt. I'd say it depends on the room more than anything else. I think colored lights work better in a cozy home setting and white lights work better in bigger or more open displays.

Alright, so aside from Googling Danielle Panabaker, I actually finished Christmas shopping today. Almost ready for the actual holiday, but it's coming up quick. Still have a couple small decorations to put up but the major stuff's been up.

Spent way more than I should've on gifts, but that's how it goes, right?

Took my "child" to see Santa today. He was so excited, he had the entire store barking.

I had to see what all this fuss was about. I must say that I can't recall a person that can look so different in so many pictures. She ranges from Emma Stone to Leah Remini. A true chameleon.

                Christmas 2018

Today was the Christmas brunch with Santa at the Country Club. We brought my mom and dad. My daughter had a blast. When I was walking back to the table, I see her holding court with Santa at our table. As I was approaching I watched her start dancing and doing spins for Santa. As always, I was over come with excitement and couldn't talk to him and smiled like and idiot, while my daughter was just happy as could be getting to spend time with Santa.

This will be a memory that I will hold dear for the rest of my life. She has now had 4 encounters with The Big Man this Christmas season.

Christmas lights question. 1 tree with white lights (my wife's) and my tree has to have coloured lights. Outdoor lights, coloured (white, red and green) are the thick painted lights. Like the ones from the 70's.

It doesn't look like a white Christmas in Toronto this year. My fingers are crossed for a dusting of snow.

                It's getting closer gentlemen.

It's "possible" here, according to The Weather Channel.

I know we had a little snow in the forecast for the day after Christmas, but it looks like it might have moved up. Guess we'll see.

                    Re: Christmas 2018

I would kill for snow I have never had snow on Christmas where I live in my 29 years I have been alive. The thing is where I live it only snows like 3-4 times a year and when it does its normally either dont stick or only like 1-3 inch and when it does snow it only snows in like Jan-march. So the fact it would like never snow before Jan was a big reasons we have not had snow on Christmas. At least that is how it used to be before the weather started getting odd ever where like 10 years ago. Now we still dont get that much snow but we have had snow in may a few times didn't think that was possible, and we have had snow a few times around thanksgiving but not Christmas. Right now they have rain in the forecast and it is supposed to be like 10 degrees to warm for snow on Christmas. I hate rain and cold love snow though.

A week before Christmas and I'm just not feeling it.

Hoping at some point I can find the spirit.
I can't shave with my eyes closed, meaning each day I have to look at myself in the mirror and respect who I see.

I miss the old days of Operation Sports :(

Same with me man. I'm still out of work (second interview for a job tomorrow though), been sick with strep throat 2 weeks ago and now a cold and cough. My grandmom is back in the hospital due to her colon cancer and hospice is looking likely. I half-assed my outside lights this year. Only put lights on my bushes and an inflatable Snoopy on my porch. I really only shopped for my wife and kids and a few family members. I just really have no desire to shop at all for anyone else.

Took the kids to see Santa this weekend. The boys dont believe any more but my daughter does. I have to bribe them to play along so she doesn't find out. I want her to believe for as long as she wants to. Merry Christmas!!

                            Christmas 2018

I hate to see two of the regulars to this yearly thread are not in the Christmas spirit. Country, I suggest that you don't force it. You are putting pressure on yourself to capture the spirit of the holidays and it may cause you to push the feeling away. I've had a few years where I wasn't quite in the spirit. To help kick start the spirit of the holidays, I went to Youtube and watched all the Christmas commercials that were out when I was a kid. The old commercials from the 70's, 80's and 90's (damn I'm old) really helped. Especially the old Time Life Christmas Music commercials. That triggered it for me.

Philliesfan, I am so sorry to hear about your Grandmother. It's definitely going to be hard for you to get into the spirt this year. Maybe instead of shopping, just go to the mall and watch all the hustle and bustle of the Christmas shoppers. I always enjoyed watching everyone run around trying to find gifts for their loved ones. I know that it seems like it's about commercialization of the holiday and that getting gifts are not the reason to celebrate, but what I love about watching them shop is the reason why everyone is shopping in the first place. They are trying to bring happiness to their loved ones. They are capturing that moment of joy when they see someone open a gift and that smile they have on their faces. I hope you have the best Christmas possible considering everything that your are having to deal with.

Smash, I'm definitely holding out hope, even for a little dusting. After last years snow storm on Christmas Eve, I will be over the moon for a light dusting. I always watch the weather channel the 2 weeks before Christmas hoping to see that they are calling for snow. Fingers crossed.

Lowerwolf, I love the photo. Christmas is for all our loved ones. Our dog growing up always seemed just excited as us kids.

Sheamazing, that is quite the issue. I was 10 when my youngest sister was born, so I got an extra 10 years of Santa because of her. I still believe to this day. I believe not for the gifts he brings, but his spirit of giving. I have more religious reasons, however I don't think they are appropriate to share in this forum. I don't want to get the thread locked or offend anyone, however I would suggest that you keep bribing them. Let your daughter keep believing and loving the magic of Santa.

                              Thanks man.

I think this year is tougher than last year with the passing of my mom. Last year, it was still "fresh" and you were still just numb. This year, you really start realizing how much Christmas has changed with her gone. She was Mike24forever of our family. You couldn't be around her during this time and not be excited for Christmas. Add to that the passing of my Grandmother and the declining health of my Dad, and its just hard to find the excitement.

The only reason I've been able to get through is the kids, especially my son who is 3. This year he gets it. He's excited. We're counting down, watching Christmas shows, and singing Christmas carols. His excitement keeps me going.

I'm sure at some point this week when wrapping gifts with Christmas music blaring throughout the house, and away from work and all, I should find the spirit.

I know we havent talked as much as we used to. But I feel you on this and really you just need to let it happen when it happens for you. I am sure at some point you will see your Son's beaming face and it will just start for you.

This is year 7 for me and I still don't do the Holidays at all. I try to work and let other have the time off or like this year I am heading into the mountains with my dogs, for a week or so. I just can't do it. The world is still just a dark drudgery that I struggle with almost every day.

But I hope you find your spirit and that the season is kind to you and yours. Always you have not been far from my thoughts and I wish you the best.
