    Re: Christmas 2018

My heart goes out to the two of you. I wish there was something I could do to ease both of your pain. All I can say, is I hope you find a little peace over the holidays. Also, I'm always available to talk if you need an ear. Merry Christmas to country and Bullit. Keep your head up gentlemen, because from my point of view, your hearts are full of love, that's why you both feel pain at your losses.
I am the lesson after the fall.

Yeah for the two of you that are not felling it and dealing with like the lost of a love one I wish you the best. I have not lost any one I am like close to before so I dont really known like what that is like and how like a first holiday seasons is like after that. My grandma is in bad shape to the point where really she needs to pass has her quality of life just sucks big time has she is always in pain and cant remember like any thing any more and the memory has been going down for like the last 5 years or so but really going down hill in the last like 2 years. See her like this is a hard thing trying to enjoy what ever time she has left has I have always been extremely close with my grandparents and my grandpa is still doing pretty good but I known its hard on him to take care of her.

I'm not a medical doctor and I don't play one on TV either. But, I would like to prescribe some mandatory entertainment and dietary restrictions for everyone.

        Must Watch

        Must Eat

It's going to be the best Christmas ever!!

P.S. One of my former students (who is applying to dental schools, lol) gave me a care package that has this ridiculously good cashew toffee stuff in it. Ingredients listed: butter, sugar, cashews. Can't go wrong there.

          Re: Christmas 2018

I think I'm done my Christmas shopping. Most was stuff I got on Amazon anyways, so I've been getting stuff in past few weeks, but today was the one day I went in person to shop.

Went mainly for one item but the store didn't have it. Instead they had an item just as good(if not better) for cheaper, so that was a nice surprise.

The part about Christmas I hate is how the most exciting part of Christmas happens basically right at (and sometimes after) Christmas. So you want to almost rush to get to that time. Next few days should be fun, but I'm just rushing through them to get to Christmas eve.

Be happy that you're excited about seeing family, haha. I'm in the situation we've mentioned before - I'll see people, catch up for a few minutes, then spend a few hours with absolutely nothing to do but awkward small talk.

Still not feeling the holiday yet, but oh well. Not for serious family reasons others have mentioned (hoping for the best for those guys), but just me getting in my own head about stuff and letting that get to me. I was hoping for a quick weather change to maybe get me in the holiday mood because it's Christmas and all, but even the weather is holding off (which isn't bad on its own, to be honest).

I'm sure Monday and Tuesday will be nice enough, I just don't have the interest in the leadup to it.

Don't underestimate the power of a good board game or card game to pass the time and get everyone interacting beyond the glare of their screens. I purchased a card game called Exploding Kittens (last year played a board game called Jackass). I can remember epic Monopoly and Trivial Pursuit battles as well in years gone by.

I don't know if everyone has noticed this ad put out by Google today, but it might bring some cheer to the thread from a holiday classic movie.

This wouldn't get away from screens, but I was thinking (as I usually do) about Jackbox games. The only issue would be that the more people are involved the faster it gets to dirty answers which is fine in general...but this is not exactly the crowd I need to hear dick jokes from, you know?

Amazon keeps suggesting Exploding Kittens to me, but I've never clicked on it. Maybe I will next time though.

                      Re: Christmas 2018

I went to a Christmas party at my wife's work last night. I know a few of the husbands there and one of them is our realtor so it wasn't too bad. I felt out of place until someone pointed out that there was bailey's and vodka to spike the hot chocolate and the punch had rum in it.

Something that kind of bothered me a little and it probably shouldn't is Dirty Santa. We had a $20 limit on the gifts and they all had to start with the letter R. Someone bought a wooden red arrow, Snoop Dogg recipe book, records, Star Wars stuff, etc. then there were people who basically bought nothing and played. Someone boxed up some Ramen and another person boxed up two packs of Rollos (candy) and called it a day.

I ended up stealing a Rick Astley Record and a bottle of Rum from someone so it wasn't so bad, but I would be bothered if I spent some $ on a gift (We bought Rubbermaid and a rotating waffle maker) and went home with a couple pieces of candy. I know it's all in fun, but damn.. what's the point? There were some funny ones like someone put "romantic night out" on the box and inside it there was a massager, lavender oil and and Tequila. A woman took it and then her husband stole it from her so that was kind of funny.

Funny reading theories people have about some Christmas classics. Also makes you think.

Santa Clause, the obvious ones like why didn't the elves care one bit that the other Santa died? An interesting theory I read was how Bernard was the old Santa's son.

Polar express and all the theories about the ghost and conductor. I even read about a legit deleted scene that clears up the ghosts backstory.

                          Re: Christmas 2018

Finally starting to get Christmas plans sorted out. Good/bad news is that it seems like most things will be happening on Christmas eve. Christmas day itself won't be as special unfortunately, but other days before/after it seems like it'll make up for it. Afterall, this time of the year ironically isn't about the 1 day.

Basically have all gifts sorted out minus a few things. Last bit of shopping I did was Amazon ordering. Cool how even this time of the year I can order stuff now and get it by tomorrow evening.

No mall parking lots, hoping the store has the items, navigating through busy stores, waiting in lines, and paying a higher price for an item, OR....just buy it on Amazon. Not a hard decision at all.

Had this happen in my family over the last couple years: instead of having stuff on both days (one day with each side of the family), things have shifted to where most of it is just Christmas Eve now.

How you like it is going to be up to you obviously, but I like not having to really do anything on Christmas Day. Still see immediate family, but after that I just kick my feet up for the rest of the day. It's pretty awesome.

                            ---

And to add some local holiday...cheer?...to the thread, it's never Christmas in Chicago without these two old 1950's cartoon shorts. If I remember, they didn't originate here but WGN for some reason aired them every year and they're just part of broadcast history here now.

Not saying they're great, but there's something about stop-motion that just fits Christmas.

                              Christmas 2018

We did our “home” Christmas yesterday with just the household. The little one loves his car tower and corkscrew crash hot wheels sets. He also got Lincoln logs (classsssssic!), some coloring and activity books and shirts among other things. Next year he is gonna be a full blown Christmas kid, this was the first year he actually opened his presents and got excited about what he was getting. Dad’s favorite thing is the bin organizer! LOL

I got a bunch of socks, a book, a hat, another thing or two. But my favorite was this spicy maple syrup. Sweet and spicy, I had to sample!

Traveling on Christmas Eve and Christmas, so this was a relaxing day. Looking forward to seeing the rest of the family though.
