When You Were a Kid, What Did You Want For Christmas?

    Time to show your age!

I remember as a kid every year I wanted a keyboard or a walkman. Then I wanted the two cassette style boombox that would let me make my own mix tapes. There was always some pipe dream about combining a keyboard with the dual cassette deck radio and some cheap mic and turning myself into a star

I also wanted a pogo ball, those were awesome

I used to flip through the old Sears Christmas catalogue, it was amazing just to go through all the pages of toys. My dad would laugh at me for asking for stuff that was was out of our means. But the enjoyment of simply going through that magazine and drifting into fantasy land was always fun

I can't remember everything I wanted. Honestly, like you said, going through the different store catalogs was such a fun tradition that I'm said to see it go away. Circling and initialing things. Going back and reviewing to be sure. By Christmas I had probably forgotten 75% of what I marked.

There is a site (might be more) that has some of the older Christmas/Wishbooks uploaded. http://www.wishbookweb.com/the-catalogs/ It's definitely a time warp.

I remember always wanting the team lockers/storage bins and jersey sets. Anything with Michael Jordan. Hot Wheels and Micro Machines. Any action figure that was related to Batman, Star Wars, or Power Rangers. Then of course the typical stuff like a bike, roller blades, skateboard, etc.

Man, I can remember going through the jcp penny catalog and circling everything I wanted. Around 1985, I was on a big transformers kick and got a lot that year. The next year I got my original NES, one year I got my gameboy and a few years later my SNES. Always great memories!

Star Wars and micro-machines were huge for me when I was growing up. Later on I built military models with my Dad.

Always wanted sports jerseys. Didn’t even care which team or player.

I know I asked for collectors stuff - baseball cards, pogs, hot wheels, micro machines, etc. - more than once.

Video games, of course - The NES, SNES, Tecmo Super Bowl (NES) and Donkey Kong Country being under the tree are just a few examples.

I also had this thing for Domino Rally, if anyone remembers that.

I wanted one of these. The spring after christmas my brother buried it in the yard and it was gone forever.

Nothing beats the first Christmas gift I explicitly asked for:

I remember asking for it and hoping against hope that Santa would bring it for me. On Christmas morning I woke up at like 6 AM and it was right under my bed. To say I was excited is an understatement. I wanted to open it up and play the two games I got with it (Mario Brothers and Kung Fu) right away but I had to have breakfast and open my other gifts. I remember my father having a helluva time figuring out how to connect it to the TV. It took him about an hour or so IIRC!

I always meant to ask for socks, sweaters and peace on earth. Then I remembered I was a kid and not a Miss America contestant so instead I'd ask for star wars stuff, football and baseball cards and money. And not once did I ever ask for a red ryder bb gun.

Re: When You Were a Kid, What Did You Want For Christmas?

In terms of stuff I wanted but never got, things like:
-Real sports jersey(best I got was cheap knockoffs from Walmart and flea markets lol)
-Various video games (I don't remember which specifically, but there were games I wanted to own but never did. Some I did get, but others I had to settle for Christmas vacation blockbuster rentals)

I never really had things I wanted I never got. Not in a spoiled way, but in an "I rarely ask for things, and it's usually not big fancy things" way. Simple things like tickets to a game or certain toys. Even nowadays, if someone were to be like "I'll spend up to ___ on your gift. Name anything you want", I still couldn't give them an answer. The money I get from people I try spending on specific things so I can claim I got that item as a Christmas gift, so I try not just grouping it in as "regular money" spent on regular things. I usually just have some lying around for awhile.

This year though I'm probably making a list of things I want to get, and depending how much I get, I'll pool the money together to get it. Random things like a tv projector is one item I want to try, but it depends on how much I'd need to spend for one that does what I need.

I never really asked for any of it, but I probably should've asked for wrestling stuff. Don't know if I would've gotten any though since WWE was in their 14+ days back then, so it was shows filled with swearing, blood and "puppies" .

I spent too much time today looking up these old catalogues haha, and also it reminded me that young me may have spent an extra minute or two looking at the lingerie section

something else stood out to me: http://www.wishbookweb.com/FB/1994_J...asCatalog/#246

am I crazy or is that actually Troy Aikman in the cowboys gear?

I noticed that too when I was going through it a couple days ago. JCPenny getting the actual athletes to model their own gear? What a time to be alive.
