    re: Off-Topic

So our coffee machine at work broke this morning and now all but one of our bathrooms is out of order due to plumbing issues.

I think its time to call it a day.
I can't shave with my eyes closed, meaning each day I have to look at myself in the mirror and respect who I see.

I miss the old days of Operation Sports :(

Terminology question that deals with math terms.

Are the verbs "sum" and "aggregate" interchangeable? I get there are differences with whatever coding language is used...just curious in terms of pure definition.

It's hard though...especially when I got my neighbor playing their franchise across the street...maybe I will occupy myself with Glamore Magazine.

Hmm, yeah I'm not sure if it always works out that way. Aggregate is more of a combination, and based on context that combination can be different things. If you're aggregating batting averages, for example, you're really taking their averages. The aggregate of a .240, .260, and .340 hitter is .280, not .840 (which would be their sum).

I don't ever use the word aggregate, though.

I think it's being changed this year. Before it was a 2 game playoff series. So you can have a series tied 1-1 and the team that moves on is simply the team who scored the most goals combined in those 2 games. If that's tied then it's the team that has the most away goals.

Oh, I know how aggregate scoring works. Was more curious why you think it's messed up.

I, for one, am glad we brought math back to OT

                        and even better, soccer

I've been wondering if we can take exit velocity and launch angle, and somehow apply it to soccer, thoughts?

You know no matter how rough a day may have been or how stressful work or life may get, hanging out and playing with my 4 year old son is the best remedy to it.

Something I saw watching tennis that I wonder if leagues would use if they haven't already.

IBM Watson can put together highlights of a game on its own! It used different metrics(maybe some math...) such as player reactions and crowd noises to determine the best clips to run and I'm guessing condense them in a certain timeframe(like if you want best 10 moments summed up in 60 seconds, it could do that)

Like most tech, the difference between this and current way is that this can be done way quicker and not require other people to do all the work.

I really could see other leagues, if they aren't already, doing this. Theres many other things that get tracked, but for viewers, this is one that'll directly impact them.
