I know this sounds bad, but Twitter has also exposed some cockroaches running around this forum giving the impression they are good people. I'll leave it at that though. I just choose not to interact with those people now.

It was harder to...confirm suspicions let's say...in the past, but fortunately/unfortunately they're doing a pretty good job at outing themselves in the present climate.

I found Reddit gets the job done for me as far as following news/current events on relative topics while also providing a better (but not much better) space for discussion.

Depends on what the discussion is. It's really good for specific games and sports teams. Stray away from those and you're wading in a cesspool really quick.

Twitter is great for breaking news and some internet humor, but it's a shame how much toxic political "discussion" goes on there. There's almost no way to have any positive discourse given the limited character format.

Yeah, I steer clear from any "general" subreddits like news, world events, politics, etc. The site as a whole definitely has a "bro-dude" type of attitude, but I have found the subreddits I frequent to be fairly friendly and genial.

As I said there, it was completely meant as a joke. I don’t think anyone has any ill feelings towards you since that was like 10 years ago.

All social media gives you a warped and false view of what the majority of people are thinking. The population in the US alone is over 325M, but when something on twitter gets over 500k likes or reweets we're supposed to think that it's an overwhelmingly popular opinion or agreed upon statement. And the old media feeds into it because they are desperate. It's nonsense.
