With that said, I sincerely hope everyone is safe from all the craziness in the world. On a selfish note, me and my girlfriend have been waiting to see a Colts/Packers game together in person for 4 years, as that is their rotation. I'm a Colts fan, she's a Packers fan. They were supposed to play this year in Indy. I don't think that's going to happen, and I couldn't be more bummed.

oh, and the Chargers in California? Couldn't get 20,000 home fans to come to their temporary stadium... and yet, they're the most popular in California.

Positive & Negative controls are clearly inaccurate, meaning the entire thing is inaccurate. Which also highlights the flaws in "data-based" results, since it depends on what data you're looking at and how you interpret it.
The Sports Housing and Recreational Tourism data, in addition to being from an unknown organization with no insight into how that data was obtained or analyzed (#1 key factor in evaluating things like this), is not exactly from a known to be reputable group as far as I know. It also may be a very warped picture, in that it's possible that the fans most likely to travel to the state of Michigan to see a game may well be the Ohio State Buckeye fans, but that is a far cry from saying OSU is the most popular team in Michigan.
Source of data, data integrity, methodology (how the data is analyzed), and finally, whether the conclusion(s) drawn from the data are accurate/reasonable are all a part of the evaluation of something like this. Almost all of the above are missing from even the highest-profile allegedly "data-based" statements/stories you see these days. Just saying something is based on data means absolutely nothing.Comment

a smaller group of fans spending more $ on their team over another teams fanbase (who may have less disposable income) doesn't necessarily make a team more popular.
