    Re: 2021 Fitness Adventures

I did indeed get out on the fat bike following our latest round of snow. What a workout! You're not going very fast, but certainly exuding a lot of effort to pedal and stay upright while riding through the snow. I was out for a 2-hour ride and went a little under 15 miles. I usually cover that distance in just over an hour on my gravel bike in normal riding conditions.

Having near 5'' tires helps, that's for sure, and you have to run the air pressure really low, like under 5 psi. Had a guy I passed try and tell me my tire was flat; I appreciated the concern but that, in fact, is the look you're going for with fat bikes and riding in snow. If I'm out riding on gravel or a MTB trail, I'll air the tires up more.

We're due for more snow in the coming days, so looking forward to getting back out there.

I did like LIIFT4, but only being 4 days a week I had to add an extra day of cardio. Had done X2 before and it's good, but it can get repetitive since the videos repeat.

I bought some creatine, but never used it. Since LIIFT4 is heavier on the weight lifting I think I might try do that again and finally try the creatine supplement once we get to bathing suit season
Well I've been pretty unorganized so far this year. Doing random workouts probably only 4 times a week. Then saw that the trainers of Insanity Max 30 and The Work put together a hybrid of the two and it started this week. So I got on board with that.

        Re: 2021 Fitness Adventures

Posted this in the cycling/biking thread, but figured I'd share here, too. Took a nasty fall off my fat bike last weekend and landed directly onto a sheet of ice. My left side took all of the fall, so my back, shoulder and leg were really sore, and still not quite 100 percent a week later. Also pulled and/or strained my groin. Today was the first day I could walk without any real discomfort, but I still have to be mindful of how I move.

Hoping that another week of rest will get me back feeling like I can start thinking about exercising.

Sorry to hear that, DJ. Sounds like some rest is in order, then slow work back up. Obvious statement of the year, but injuries are just the worst. Nothing derails a good fitness plan like getting hurt.

              jan 4th - 238
              jan 31st - 221

              Gotta keep grinding!

Gym 4 days a week, cardio 6 days as well.

Cardio just slow steady walk at a 10% to 15% incline for 30 min's. I hold two 25lb dumbbells every other min as well. So 15 min's of farmers walk basically. I go between 2.5mph to 3.0. I try to keep the heart rate at my 75% to 80% the whole time.

              Lets go tackle February.

Getting there. Definitely a lot better than I was at this time last week.

Yep, can't do much else but rest. I've incorporated some light stretching and that's helped keep the legs from feeling overly tight. Hoping that in another week or so I'll be good to go, but not going to rush it.

Do you guys use any health & wellness or nutrition resources on a regular basis? Looking for ways to continue to improve our meals and continue taking baby-steps.

Back a few years ago my wife started using the container system from BeachBody/21 Day Fix

Bear with me. It's not as cheesy as it seems, and you don't need to buy all that crap from BeachBody.

You can find the calorie ranges onlinel, and can find generic measuring containers on Amazon. Then just google "21 day fix recipes" and everyone and their mom will have a blog that has recipes with the containers calculate for whatever it is.

You can find spreadsheets that let you meal plan for the week and enter in what you are having plus the containers used, and a good one with calculate it out for the day to make it easy.

My wife has a pretty good idea on how to meal plan now and we don't really follow the container system, but it's what got us started.

No, but some of the food delivery/meal kit companies do a good job of providing (relatively) healthy meal options and portion sizes. We're using Home Chef currently.

Not really FT but what I try to do is make healthy substitutes where possible. If the recipe calls is something fried I’ll air fry it. Substitute vegetable oil for avocado. Reduce the sugar amount, etc....

Little stuff like that helps me.

Did my first "long" bike ride last weekend, about 2 hours. Felt good to get back out there after my injuries earlier in the year and overall, didn't have much in the way of discomfort, which was encouraging.

I have been running 2-3 times a week for the last 2-3 weeks as well, and also walking almost every day so it's been good to get back to being active.

Yeah man, weather starting to turn around here and looking forward to hiking again. I walked on my lunch break most Thursdays and Fridays when I went to campus, even through the winter, but nothing beats the woods. Also been doing this workout for the last six weeks, adding weight to each exercise along the way: https://www.menshealth.com/fitness/a...ut-25-minutes/. Although I can't quite do it in 25 minutes... that's hauling some serious *** for this soon-to-be 42 year old. It's been a nice change from more of a push/pull approach buy will be looking to switch it up again eventually. Hard to keep reinventing the wheel with the same limited equipment...
