    Re: 2021 Fitness Adventures

More or less maintaining the diet, but exercise has gone to zero (sadly). I really need the gyms to open back up. I know that's a bit of an excuse, but I do know myself and I know I'll go back when the gyms are open again. I just have no desire to workout in my place, and it's too chilly outside to comfortably do anything outdoors. I feel like it's right around the corner, though.

Forgot to add I had been following the Smolov Jr bench program the last 3 1/2 weeks. I hadn't benched since college back in 2002/03 and was curious what my max would be.

I've always just done dumbbell chest press. Didn't have a spot, but I maxed at 230lbs (yikes, weak city USA lol). But that gave me my 1 rep max to work with the Smolov Jr program.

Tomorrow or Saturday I'm gonna max out again and see how (if) this program worked.

230 is pretty dang good for not having benched in close to 20 years. It's been a good 15 years for me since I've done it and know if I were to attempt a 1RM today, it wouldn't be close to that number you put up.

Hope the program works out well for you.

Update. Maxed out this past Friday. I was able to put up 265, failed at 270. But nice to see the program work.

Back at it again for 3 weeks with the new weight and see shall see where I go.

          Thanks man. It worked LOL

I went in one day and was like I wonder what i can put up. Nobody was in the gym, said the heck with it. Kept going up, got to that 230 and knew if i tried anything else I'd have to dump the bar.

Glad I did the above, gave me something to work with and focus on instead of just free wheeling it.

This has been pretty hard. With some days having double ups on the original Insanity and The Work. So 90 minutes of pretty tough stuff.

I've been increasing my weekly running mileage and overall, have felt good. What's even better is that my times have gotten faster, and I'm even a little ahead of where I was pre-injury. Last month I completed my fifth-straight Pat's Run (4.2 miles) and yesterday was my longest run of 2021 as I finished a 10K.

                    Re: 2021 Fitness Adventures

I was yesterday years old when I realized that I am in fact old.

I've been ramping up a workout routine for most of the year. At first it was just some light weight lifting 3x a week. Then I added in 2x a week of cardio on my bike.

About a month ago I started running 1x a week on the weekends. Last week I was feeling really good and pushed myself a bit. My legs were a bit sore after but nothing bad.

Well yesterday I went for my run and my knees immediately started hurting. Thinking as though I were still 10 years younger than I am and I could simply push through it, I kept going and eventually I stopped feeling the pain during the run. The after effects though...mistakes were made.

Starting the last week of LIIFT4. Going to do Body Beast next. Super cliche, but it's 12 weeks until I go on a beach trip so that will put me at the end of the BB program.

Will be interested to hear your Body Beast thoughts when you get started.

I went back to the gym yesterday for the first time in well over a year (closer to a year-and-a-half). I did some light (really light!) lifting and my arms are absolutely useless today. I've got like dangling spaghetti from my shoulders at this point. I literally couldn't do 1 pushup right now if you had a gun to my head. Sad state of affairs, but part of me knew this would happen.

It's like I'm starting at zero all over again. Oh well, onward and upward I guess.

Also: working out with a mask on sucks. I can't wait until they get rid of that.

Been back in the gym pretty consistent the last couple months after being really sporadic and the constant rain here has pretty much killed my mountain bike riding the last few weeks.

But just started the Athlean X AX 1 program again and it looks like it's not going to rain this week so hopefully get some riding in this weekend.

Tried to go for a personal best for cycling distance on Sunday when my front tire blew and I wrecked my spare inner tube while changing tires. So mad.

I literally spent two hours trying to fix the tire and failed. I don't know how I can turn changing an inner tube into an epic disaster but that's how I roll.

I was about 250 meters from the Horseshoe Falls at Niagara Falls when the mishap took place and lots of tourists got to hear me swear. I was ready to throw my Canondale into the Falls. So I settled for 133 km, short of my personal best of 150 km.

I'm going for 5,000 km this year. I'm at about 2,100 km. Might be difficult because I'm taking some vacation time in July.

Sounds like me, I am horrible at dealing with mechanicals on my bike and changing tires is right up there.

Good thing, I suppose, is that it happened on the tail end of the ride, so while you didn't get your PR, you did cover a lot of distance.

West Brom’s manager might be the most fit member of the squad!

I did a century ride ~6-7 years ago. Legs felt OK but towards the end when it started getting hot was when it was the toughest.

Loved cycling but I just have the time to enjoy it now with younger kids who always have things to do on weekend. Cycling was the only reason I didn’t balloon when I had achilles problems and then ultimately surgery.
