I also agree with you we'll never see a subforum like that. After all, tempers may flare up in the regular forums.

I've found that to be true on other forums that have a politics only section. Things always carry over in one way or another, and it results in people getting banned, which is never a good thing. I've seen it happen over and over again, and I think with as much carry over as there is here between seasons/sports, it'd just be even worse.

Just to clarify, my point was if some people can't even act civil over a discussion about say the NBA (Since we all know how bad the NBA forum is), they'd go insane talking about politics. It wasn't meant to group everyone that talks about politics into one group.

Those talking about the NBA probably wouldn't talk about politics though.

That was just an example. It goes on in almost every forum in one way or another.

Yes, but who would really talk in the politic forums?

            SPTO... and then who?

I think you might be surprised. There is a reason this thread is here after all.

People tend to come out of nowhere when it comes to politics.

I'm confused, since this thread opened up, I've seen about 2 or 3 Obama/McCain avatars

Just a guess, but it probably has to do with the fact that mods/admins can't be everywhere at once.

People should follow the rules on their own, but sometimes that doesn't happen.

I don't know... like I said earlier, if this is such a big deal, and I think it makes sense to treat it like one, then this rule should be enforced much more than it is.

If someone has a political avatar or whatever you have to let mods or admins know.

Why did OS extend the political discussion rule to avatars and sigs? This was never an issue before. The rule was in place to prevent people from discussing politics in threads. I dont think a picture of Obama or McCain is going to cause a political discussion (It never did before.)

I'm not trying to cause any trouble but I find it strange that people can offensive lyrics in their sigs but not McCain or Obama 08.

That was basically my point but i'm not going to fight it. I'd also like to know what was the tipping point. I didn't see someone starting a thread based on a political avatar or anything like that either.

ah well, no one ever said a message board is a democracy.

Thats right its not a democracy but I think its a case of the mods and staff misinterpreting the rule.

The rule was never political stuff....it was political discussion. I was around when the Staff created the rule and that was because there was a flame war every time anything political was discussed in a thread. Since then plenty of people have had political avys or sigs (some have had them for years) and I cant remember one argument because of it.

When was this rule changed? I was cited for political content in my signature in June 2007.
