Re: Political Stuff
And yet, WNR is still standing and we're all still fake internet friends after all that mature, adult, mostly respectful discussion.

Re: Political Stuff
it's probably a bad idea. I just think it might be cool way for people that spend a lot of time on here to be aware of history and politics, especially the young kids....and it would be a good way for history junkies like me to collect some pictures.Last edited by ZB9; 11-07-2008, 03:53 PM.Comment

Re: Political Stuff
Politics will never work well here. The community here is too vast with people of varying maturity levels and such. I take responsibility for the bruhaha in the off topic thread on Election Night but it was history in the making and deserved a mention. Didn't think it'd turn into what it did though.
If only there was a forum with dedicated, history/political junkies that would only be accessed by said junkies which could be viewed by everyone as sort of a public service but again that wouldn't work. I'm fine with the rules here. There are lots of other places to discuss politics.Member of the Official OS Bills Backers Club

Re: Political Stuff
That'd be nice in theory (don't say it superjames), but as you said wouldn't work. I mean, I'm probably one of the more well read and educated in politics and history, and I'd reckon in the top 3 "closest" to Washington politics, yet everything I say comes off to give people the impression that I'm a huge jerk.If only there was a forum with dedicated, history/political junkies that would only be accessed by said junkies which could be viewed by everyone as sort of a public service but again that wouldn't work. I don't believe that a civil political conversation between more than 2 people of different ideologies is even possible. In 2008, I've seen (with my own 2 eyes) "discussions" between knowledgeable college students (my government classes), ignorant college students (my other classes), lobbyists (my spring internship/fundraisers), Capital Hill staffers (my summer/fall internship), House members/Senators (both internships), the constituents of North Carolina's great ___th district, non-politic working adults, and of course, the interweb. I haven't seen any prolonged discussion that involved any sort of civility. I've seen so called "political insider" blogs and 24 hour news stations say things that were clearly coming from someone who never worked in Washington and had no first hand knowledge of what they were talking about. As far as I'm concerned with politics, everyone who isn't making money hand over is an idiot.Comment

Are we allowed to have political avatars then? Because I saw someone today with an Obama avatar.Comment
