What's the difference between the cop threads and say:
The BCS threads
Auburn Alabama thread
Any Notre Dame thread
Hell, the Madden forum offends me more than the cop threads.
Why I choose those thread topics, topiccs that are always on the front page always with the same people arguing the same thing never being able to come to compromise.

IDK, I just don't see the big deal...I don't think people are trying to vilify cops like some are suggesting. In most, if not all, of the stories posted, the cops vilify themselves. I'm sure if a good/heartwarming cop story were to make national headlines it would be posted here, it's just that a majority of the stories are negative, partially due to the fact that the media likes to harp on negative things more than the positive. I think some people are being a little too sensitive.
And let it be known I have no problem with cops. The only cop I don't like is my mom's husband, and that's because he's an arrogant douchebag for reasons completely unrelated to his profession.
I agree with pretty much all of JJLinn's post. I guess the only think I don't quite agree with is the part in the bold letter's. I've rarely seen any "feel-good" stories about cops on here.
It's kind of like when I was in retail we used to get ton's of negative call's with problem's everyday. However, every now and again a customer would call in and let us know about a great job one of our salespeople or delivery team did. But, like I said that was very, very rare.
Anyways, the same sort of thing applies around here. Any negative cops threads you get a lot of people coming out of the wood work's to pile on. If someone creates a thread about a positive story it's lost on page 2 or 3 before you know it.
I work in tech support, but I'm not going to say "let's ban all the threads that make Tech Support look bad". I know how it goes on both ends, good and bad... doesn't mean I want it censored.
Yes, sometimes threads do go overboard... but isn't that why we have Mods?

I'm fairly new to these boards but the "cops threads" do stand out as a never ending battle of ideologies that seem very similiar to debates on politics and religion. It's not to say debate in itself is bad but the rhetoric on those threads does tend to alienate.

It's pretty sad.
Well, the thing of it is that people expect law enforcement officers to do their job which is to protect and serve. By them doing their job (protecting and serving) they are not making any news. That's like a headline saying "Salesman makes a sale" or something to that effect. However, when a law enforcement officer doesn't do their job or messes up on the job then it becomes news.
What is the point of this? You could've stopped at ignoring me for no reason whatsoever.
Am I really that terrible of a person that it's not acceptable to agree with me?
Dude, just walk away!
This is why you get baited, because it's so easy to get your riled up. JUST. WALK. AWAY.
Anyway, I don't say ban them because both sides make valuable points, but I think derogatory words such as calling cops "pigs" and what not should be considered a warning.
My only question is, where would you draw the line? Just about every topic involves law enforcement in one way or another. Is any thread that even deals with police officers now supposed to be closed?
The Cop threads are great. They are like the Madden threads.
Same handful of guys, and no matter what happens, it's the fault of the police or however the police react it's some sort of travesty. And their are no limits to the ridiculous things they will say to put it on the cops.
No matter what, their stupid little agenda is clear.. They are usually the ones who are also advertising the no snitching nonsense.
