Re: FIFA 10 MANAGER MODE Progress thread

Had about 8 weeks to go before the January transfer window opened up, the thought of being able to buy the players I want for a change, caused me to simulate to January 1st. Sold off my 74 rated RB and my 71 rated forward for around £2,000,000 total which opened up £10,000 in wages. Brought in keeper Jan Koprivec and Aussie forward David Williams from my FM2010 days along with a replacement RB and a new CDM. I still have a little over £5500 left in wages remaining, so if I can bring a bit more in the transfer kitty, I'll be looking to buy.

The first game after bringing in those players was a 2nd Round FA Cup tie against Man City. Absolute cracking stuff, finished 4-4, including a goal from each club in Extra Time. Scarhead Lescott had a chance to win it on penalties, but conjured up his best John Terry impression. Finally won it 6-5 on penalties when Weiss put it off the bar. This is the fourth year in, so it's now 37 years, **** all for the bitters from Stockport.

        Year Review:
Finished 3rd in 09/10 so I had to beat PSG in the qualifying round of the UEFA CL. After beating them 7-2 on agg drew Man United, Real Salzburg, and AZ Alkamaar. Finished 2nd in the group and drew Fenerbache in the Knockout round. Lost the 1st leg at home 2-0 at home and won on the road in the 2nd 4-0 with all 4 goals coming after HT. Drew Inter next and beat them 3-1 at home but lost the 2nd leg 4-0 after a 2nd half hattrick from Marco Arnautovic.

In league play I never dipped below 4th but the Scudetto came down to the last 2 matches. I ended up losing to Napoli which forced me to get all 3pts in order to capture the crown at Bologna. Beat them 5-1 behind 2 goals from Totti and Okaka a piece.

In Coppa action I breezed through Padua (Serie B), Salerno (Serie B), Parma (Serie B) before losing to AC Milan 7-5 on agg. The same day glitch is still in the game as I had to play the 2nd leg vs Milan in the Coppa on the same day as the 2nd leg of the UEFA CL vs Inter. Both losses btw.

My goal this year is to add some young depth and win 2 trophies. Still only a 1* manager though, ugh.

        Year Review:
Started off with a loss to Inter and then reeled off 7 straight wins to sit at top of the table. After winning the 1st leg of the Coppa vs Genoa (3-0 away) I rested starters and ended up losing 9-8 on PKs, much to the board's dismay. I was able to stay on the top until losing 2-4 at Fiorentina and then blowing a 2-0 lead vs Milan, ultimately falling 2-3. Followed that crappy performance up with a 1-1 draw against Catana and with 2 matches left in which needed all 6 pts ended up drawing with Genoa (a thorn in my a** all year) & AC Siena to finish 3rd. My manager prestige did not go up at all (.5 star) and I will have to come to hot to save my job. I have 2 UEFA CL Qualifying match with PSG, Juve, Lazio (rivals), and Milan all in the first 3-4 weeks.

I keep everything in a spreadsheet which can be seen here:

Nice work. Wonder why you haven't gained more rep since you've met three goals by my count, plus won the league. I made it to one-star halfway through my first season with Dortmund when I met my Cup objective. Not hatin', just sayin'...

Re: FIFA 10 MANAGER MODE Progress thread

Tiny Morecambe is in the Premier League, now if only the patches and numbers on the players back still didn't say Football League. Oh EA, but I've come to expect little details like that to be overlooked in every single one of your games. It's also rather annoying to see the squad players I've kept around since the first season, who are still rated in the 50's be transferred to Arsenal and Villa of all teams.

1-1 draw at Anfailed, nice to see it will be a challenge this season. I pushed forward trying to get a last second winner, only to have them counter perfectly and almost take the three points themselves, only to have Babel put it off the bar for the last kick of the game.

              Year 1 Update

              Team: Sheffield United
              League: Coca-Cola Championship
              Record: 2nd (29-7-10, +68 GD, 94 points)
              Silverware: FA Cup
Cups: Lost to Portsmouth in the quarterfinals of the Carling Cup, defeated Arsenal in the FA Cup.
Summer Transfers: Sold Bryan Cotterill and Lee Williamson. Bought Junior Stanislas (RM, West Ham) and Temitope Obadeyi (ST, Swindon Town)
Winter Transfers: Sold Ryan France. Bought Miles Addison (CB, Derby County)
              Goal Scorers (All Competitions): Obadeyi (44), Evans (37), Henderson (31), Stanislas (21), Little/Speed (6), Quinn/Reid (5), Ward/Kilgallon/Stewart (4), Harper/Addison (3), Montgomery (1)
Goalkeeping: Bennett (8 clean sheets), Bunn (2 clean sheets)

              Manager Thoughts:
              • We really played some good football throughout the season. When it clicked, the attack was something to behold. We scored 143 goals in the league. The main thing we need to work on is consistency.
              • Defensively, we struggled. We were working with 2 CBs until January and their fitness isn't the best. We gave up a ton of goals this season (75). Our defense got a little bit better once we brought in Addison in January. He nailed down a starting spot shortly after his arrival.
              • Depth is definitely something we need to address during the summer. The last month of the season saw us drop points in 4 of our last 7 games (including 3 losses). This, combined with West Brom's good form saw us finish 2nd. The fixture congestion killed us.
              • The cups saw us matched up against mid-table PL teams and we faired pretty well. We picked up a win against Stoke in the Carling Cup and wins against Burnley, Sunderland, Tottenham, Hull City, Bolton, and Arsenal on our way to the FA Cup title. Arsenal was just so much better than us, it was ridiculous. We didn't score until Gallas got sent off and didn't score again until Djourou picked up 2 yellows. Whatever, I'll take it.
              • Another note on depth, not only we will have the league, the league cup, and the FA Cup to compete in, as FA Cup champions we also have the Europa League to participate in. We're looking to bring some guys in on loans to go with our purchases.

Just found this and since Im dieing to talk about my MM, this seems like the perfect place. Plan on recording all my MM moments, transfers, goals, exc.

                Key Transfer: Nathan Delfouneso (4.3M)

Played my first game, a friendly verse Frankfurt. Had trouble creating chances in the first half, and my defense looked terrible, but I managed to score 2 goals in the second half to draw. Next game verse Lazio, first league game of the season. I knew this would be a tough game. The first 30 min were scary. Three times I slid in the way of sure to be goals. I just couldnt get a break. Finally, in the 38th min, Delfouneso passes a great through ball to Aquafresca for a 1v1 with the goal keeper, I squeezed it by him to take a 1-0 lead. Then in the 43rd min, Aquafresca showed a bit of class with a great precision shot into the top corner. Smooth sailing after that. Scored again in the 73rd with Aquafresca after a slip up by the Lazio goal keeper. Hat Trick Baby. Great start right? Wrong. XBOX froze in the 87th min. FML.

Replayed this game, won 2-1. Goals by Acquafresca and Delfouneso(This man is FAST). The Lazio goal came off a superb free kick by Pandev. Ill take it.

                      League: La Liga
                      Team: Villareal

                      Standings: 13-4-4, 3rd
Cups: Eliminated 2nd round of Spanish Cup. Beat PSV 1-0 away in first leg of 2nd round of EFA.

                      Summer transfers: Cicinho, Keirrison
                      Winter transfers: Hernanes, Taison

Overall, Keirrison is a machine. Top 3 in the league in scoring. My 4-2-3-1 has been working wonders and it starts with Marcos Senna just crackin skulls in the midfield. Just landed two big young names in Hernanes and Taison from Brazil. Looking forward to seeing how much they contribute to the club that is on it's way to the CL! Having a blast

In regards to goals. I've taken West Brom and it's to finish in the top 4 of the Coca-Cola Championship as well as get to the 4th round of the FA Cup. Noticed my 3rd Round game is against a Premier League team. If I lose in the 3rd round, am I likely to get fired even if my team is at the top of the Coca-Cola Championship table?

Re: FIFA 10 MANAGER MODE Progress thread

I'm coming down the home stretch of my first season with Dortmund. I'm currently tied with Stuttgart at the top on points, but trail on goal differential by 5, although I have a game in hand. Next match (6 or 7 left) is against 3rd place Werder Bremen. Still alive in the cup as well, have a semifinal matchup with VFL Bochum following Bremen, so I'm tempted to rotate the squad so I have some of my better players fresh.

I bought two more players in January -- Kalu Uche (CF, Almeria) and Vasilis Torosidis (RB, Olympiacos) as I continue to build a two-deep squad for next season's domestic & European campaigns. My current depth chart:

                          GK: Weidenfeller -- Zeigler
                          RB: Torosidis -- Owomoyela
                          CB: Subotic/Hummels -- Santana
LB: Oskar (Virtual Pro) -- Dede
RW: Blaszczykowski (aka "Kuba") -- Hazard
                          CM: Hajnal -- Sahin
CM: Fernando -- Kehl (can't decide on starter, bought Fernando for 4-3-3 but switched formations)
LW: Zidan -- Camara (scouted player)
ST: Falcao (leads Bundesliga in scoring despite coming in at end of August)
                          ST: Uche -- Barrios

Squad Players: Hunemeier (CB), Schmelzer (LB), S. Bender (CDM), Tinga (CM), Oztekin (CAM) -- several young players out on loan and I sold a crapload of people.

Lately I've been playing a 4-4-2 (actually a 4-2-4 in-game), whereas I went with a 4-3-3 with two holding mids earlier in the season. Not sure if it's a coincidence, but my defense has suffered since I made the switch. Although, I've seen some bizarre goals over the past few games, mainly due to crazy AI keeper howlers and even a few own goals/deflections.

I'm not sure what to do with my virtual pro. I have him as a LB now in an attempt to get some of the defensive accomplishments, but he's keeping Dede out of the squad, who isn't a bad player. I spent enough time at LB to get the giant throw trait, which is pretty cool. He'll automatically take throw-ins in the attacking half, even on the right side of the pitch. I also slide Oskar up to LM/LW when Zidan needs a break or later in the game when holding a lead.

I finished my first season with Morecambe in the Premier League earlier, somehow managed to finish 5th, one point ahead of the Bin-Dippers and qualify for the EFA or whatever the Europa League is called in this game. Finally having a bit of money for transfers, I tried signing Takayuki Morimoto from Catania, a player I've had plenty of success with in a previous game. Despite offering £500,000 and then later £1,000,000 more than his worth, the dreaded "Catania scoffs at your offer" message appeared both times. I tried to sign a few other players rated over 80 and no matter how much I offered, the bid was never accepted. This happened back when the team was in League 2 and I couldn't sign anyone rated over 60.

End of the line for that game, factor in this glitch and the fact that kits still have the Football League patches and numbers are more than enough to cause me to switch to another game. Initially I went with Newcastle, but the Football league patches would eventually bother me once they were promoted. A trip back to Germany was in order for Josef Fritzl, wiki the name if you want to read a horrible story. Dusseldorf looks like good place to start off. What a shock as well, 8 offers made for players and all 8 bids were accepted. I guess I'm done playing in England for a while.

I finished my first season with D.C. United in the MLS. What a blast this game has been so far, especially to someone new to the game.

I spent the beginning of the season trying to figure out my team. No real weapons and quite possibly the worst goalie in the history of soccer. I was getting decimated, which was interesting.

I actually finished 15-9-4. I won the points by 1 measly point, so it was a battle to the end, and the fact that I drew the match before my final, had I drew or lost, I would have lost the table.

I don't have the game in front of me, so I'm not real sure what changes happened for next season. I lost my main goal scorer to retirement, and a few other good ones. Not bad though because I spent most of last season scouting some decent young talent out of Africa. I was mostly looking for speed, and I wound up with 2 very good young players in the midfield that provide me what I was looking for.

When the transfer window opened, I found it difficult to get anyone to WANT to play in the MLS. I had to throw money at people like it was going out of style, I'm talking 10k per match salaries. It wasn't too bad because the board had confidence in me and I cleaned house, giving me a lot of room for salaries. By doing so, I was able to buy some new talent at goalie, and some good defenders. Of course immediately after the transfer window I get email reports telling me half the damn world is interested in my two newly acquired defenders and I should lock them up long term to avoid losing them. Of course they don't agree to new contracts, but I still have them.

I actually won the MLS Cup, barely. I was down 3-0 in the semi-finals to New York before storming back and taking it to penalty shots, where I won 5-3. Great game, then I dispatched Real Salt Lake to win the cup.

Now for season 2, my objectives are obviously out the window. Win the MLS Cup again, and ALSO win the US Cup. Good grief. My team is not set up for this at all with my top scorers leaving, all 3 of them IN FACT. Two of them retired and one I had on a loan. I'm definitely looking to buy him when the transfer window comes back open, because the guy was great.

After two matches in season 2, I'm 1-1-0, so I think things will be alright. I've got a goalie that won player of the year in the MLS, and a decent defense. If I can find some goals I'm fairly certain I can repeat as MLS Champs, before perhaps looking to advance my career, or maybe keep trying to build a powerhouse here in the US.

does anyone have a thread that lists gamertags of people who have shared their Custom Tactics? Also, how do you change the custom tactic name? is this possible?
