Yeah, that's a tough one to swallow. I guess you crashed out of the Coppa Italia too early? My only thought is taking a team that's not as highly rated. Dortmund is a 4-star team and I haven't had any board trouble. What about Palermo? Can't go wrong with pink kits...

Haha! Palermo was in third behind Roma in the tables. I have played a few Exhibition games with Borussia Dortmund and I like the team. They also play ion my favorite stadium in the game.
The failure in the Cup was huge. The meter was half full and then was at 25% after I lost the second leg to Parma. No matter what I did after that I could not get the meter to jump. I beat Inter and Milan 2x and split with Juve. My players all had white form too.Comment

Re: FIFA 10 MANAGER MODE Progress thread
I might have to consider trying 15 min halves. Although I'm scared to see how beat tired my team would be.
So I wonder if it's possible to get fired from a 1* team? I'm well on my way!
I'm getting competitive on Pro now, but I was so bad for awhile, lost about 15 games in a row to start! Now I usually am around .500PSN: JISTIC_OS

Re: FIFA 10 MANAGER MODE Progress thread
I have to start again..... and it will be the last time before this pos goes back to gamestop. Because if I can't play MM that leaves Create a Tournament as the only mode other than Exhibition that I play and that's not good enough.
This time I'll use the adjusted tactics. In my last game I beat Cagliari 4-0 to move into 2nd place in Serie A with 10 games left in the season and was promptly canned.
I'm so irritated with this game right now I could puke....and NO I don't want to manage Grimsby Town!!!
I have no idea what I set mine to but I'm hovering around the 65% mark. I've put so much time into Roma that I'm scared of crashing out of the Coppa early.
BTW, I played Dortmund in a friendly. Their stadium is incredible. I spent 5 minutes just dribbling around looking at it.

Re: FIFA 10 MANAGER MODE Progress thread
I really like the feel of the longer game; it just feels more like a real match. I don't have to panic if I concede a goal and you feel the pressure when trying to preserve a late lead. I'm seeing the occasional high scoring games, comebacks, blowouts; before it was almost always 1-0, 1-1, 2-1, etc. Now I still get those, but I can turn a 2-1 loss into a 3-2 win or get behind to Bayern and get thumped 4-1 as I tried to push forward to get back in the game.
Dortmund was a good choice in hindsight. Killer stadium & kits (I prefer the black top w/ gold shorts) and enough talent that the cupboard isn't bare, but there is definitely room to improve the squad.Comment

Re: FIFA 10 MANAGER MODE Progress thread
Arsenal-Fired
AS Roma-Fired 2x
New Castle-Fired after going winless in 10 games.
Dundalk-Fired
Athletico Madrid-5-1-1 after 7 games. I use Assisted passing in this league and that's just too easy....and boring. With the speed of Forlan and Aguero up front and Maxi R. and Simao on the wings they are lethal.
Not exactly a stellar record. The word is out in Europe and I'm certain I've been blackballed by most leagues, but we'll see what happens in Germany. If it doesn't work there maybe I'll try France next.
I'm also going to give 15 minutes a run with Manual shooting. I really like the organic feel of the Manual settings but Manual passing is a bit much right now. I'll also use my roster file with the adjusted tactics.
@KG: Believe it or not I had board difficulty set to Amateur. I've played so many games with Roma that I know what players can do best and what they can't. As you are, I'm really familiar with the team. It's just tough to start all over again.
What made it even more painful was that I sent the scout on a long trip to South America looking for forwards and he found a 20yo 74 overall named Regis Amaral Prado. He came to Roma for pennies and just scored his first goal in Serie A in my last game as manager.Comment

Re: FIFA 10 MANAGER MODE Progress thread
I think you'd like the Bundesliga, Riz. Aside from Bayern and some weaker teams at the bottom, there's a large group of similarly ranked and competitive teams. Take a look at Schalke (another awesome in-game stadium, Veltins Arena), Leverkusen, Hamburg, Wolfsburg (two great strikers), Werder Bremen, Stuttgart, and Hoffenheim. All have their pros & cons, but most have at least a player or two to hang your hat on.
I almost went with Schalke, FWIW -- what's funny about that is Schalke/Dortmund is one of the bigger rivalries in German football, the "Revierderby". They're a big, physical team that can play an aggressive game. You've got Kuranyi, Altintop, Westermann, Bordon to dominate in the air and Rakitic, Farfan & Rafinha to supply some skill, along with new USMNT member Jermaine Jones in the middle. Not sure what the board expectations are, so might want to check that out before making a decision.Comment

Re: FIFA 10 MANAGER MODE Progress thread
I went to manual shooting in my last game and I plan on sticking with it. That leaves me with only short passing on semi and everything else manual. Not sure if that will help you though, because I know you are a soccer gaming god.

How many cups does the Bundes have?
It's a shame that the Coppa Italia is messed up in the game. Too many 2 leg fixtures.Comment

Re: FIFA 10 MANAGER MODE Progress thread
How do you guys determine your lineup?
Do you always go with your best overall rated guys?
Or do you look for certain attributes at certain positions? If so, what do you look for?PSN: JISTIC_OS

Re: FIFA 10 MANAGER MODE Progress thread
I don't really care about OVR to be honest. I need my players to have position-specific skillsets, CBs-that have size and strength, MFs to have good passing abilities and vision. I like my STs to be varied.
For example, I have a LW (Alessandro Cerci) who is rated in the mid 70s which isn't bad for his age (~23-24). He's not the fastest LW, nor the best passer/dribbler/goal scorer but for some reason he just plays really well with the 1st teamers. He doesn't get bullied off the ball and has enough pace to hold his own. I've turned down opportunities to bring in a bigger name (Marcelo, Robben, Simao, etc...) in favor of keeping him.Comment

Re: FIFA 10 MANAGER MODE Progress thread
The German cup format is correct as far as legs; only one leg in all rounds with ET and penalties for draws after 90 minutes. However, the real tournament consists of 64 teams, but just like the FA Cup, regional/non-league teams aren't in the game so they have to tweak it to work.
To elaborate on what beavers said, go to "My Skills and Stats" under the virtual pro menu. You'll see 5 or 6 categories of attributes -- physical, mental, defense, etc. Choose one of those and you'll see individual attributes. As you scroll over these, there will be a brief description to the right of what each attribute does.Comment
