Re: FIFA 10 MANAGER MODE Progress thread
I've found that 10 minutes is perfect for me.
I've just started up a new manager mode with Swansea to try and get the most out of this game before FIFA 11 drops. So far I'm 4-7-1 and its feast or famine so far. I either lose big or win big. Coventry City blasted me 3-0 but then the very next match I took down Newcastle 3-0 at St. James Park.
I also quite like the way the board can be extremely fickle. I lose approval for a hard won 2-2 draw with a superior opponent but then they absolutely love me for grabbing an upset against Newcastle. I really feel like I'm on a knife's edge and need to start getting some regular victories to maintain my job.
On the whole this mode is quite sloppy though, I'm pretty sure most of the stuff promised in the blogs are missing or not working. Playing every single game in the rain or overcast conditions is getting old very quickly to say the least. I know its England but the sun does come out over there! I'm just hoping that I don't run into any of the really major glitches that went unpatched.
Also not being able to use the official Mitre ball is an annoying glitch that was introduced with a patch and then not fixed. But I'll continue to have as much fun as possible, switching back between Pro Evo and FIFA. On the field this game can be truly sublime at times, the physics can feel great and the ball truly does feel like its own entity.
I just wish that the umpires didn't let the CPU get away with absolute murder constantly. I still haven't been awarded a single penalty or a free kick around the box, despite being hacked down a couple of times a game. Where as the CPU seems to have no trouble earning them. And it doesn't help that their strike rate from free kicks is really high!
Still, I think I'm going to have great fun over the next couple of months. If EA can give this mode some love then I'll be first in line for FIFA 11 in a few months.Comment

Re: FIFA 10 MANAGER MODE Progress thread
Hi everyone,
I previously talked about my Rapids MM which became boring after 4 seasons when there was no competition and there were only 20 teams to play. After that I wanted to take a team to the EPL from League 2. I did my research and found Barnet to be among the worst teams so I decided to go with them.

The start of season 1 was ROUGH. It was very apparent in the first couple weeks that I would not be winning the league. Barnet is so bad; it was a miracle if I scored a goal with the current roster. You start with a minuscule budget (300K I believe) and without winning it was impossible to increase it. About mid season I could improve my scout to level 6 and got a few players. I kept scrapping for money and upgrading my scout and scouting for a striker who could actually finish.
Finally I got a 19 year old Argentinean striker with 5 star skill moves who was a 77 ovr. He was destroying for me but there were only about 10 games to go in the season. I ended in 17th. Luckily I made a run to the 4th round of the FA cup where I was whooped 4-0 by Swansea City. I’m pretty confident that allowed me to keep my job given the epic losing I was doing.

The 2nd season was much better as the scouted players I was getting were competent. My scout was at level 10 in the opening weeks and players in the low to mid 70’s started pouring in. My team was easily then one of the best in League 2 and if I played smart I could hang with some of the top teams. The Argentinean I referenced earlier was joined by a Mexican striker who was 77 ovr as well. This combo allowed me to at least have a chance. I usually destroyed teams in league games so the real highlight came in the English League Cup. I had an epic run to win it with wins over Arsenal, Man U in the 2 leg semifinal, and then Man City. I was just extra careful in all those games and passed carefully until my forwards could get a shot in. With that championship comes an invite to the UEFA Europa League which should be fun next year. I did end up winning the league so I will be promoted to League 1 next year as well.

This game mode is awesome. My team’s average age has to be like 21 so I have a lot of hope for the future.

Re: FIFA 10 MANAGER MODE Progress thread
I just started a new manager mode with Bayern Munich. I don't know much about them but I was wondering why Ribery is listed as a reserve player and not a starter? I'm pretty sure I have the latest squad update.Comment

Is assistant coach turned on? If so it automatically switches your lineups around.Comment

Re: FIFA 10 MANAGER MODE Progress thread
Edit: Also, has anyone seen a point to loaning out players? When I got to the Premiere League my roster consisted of starters in the low 80's ovr so I loaned out some of my 19 year old guys who were in the high 70's so they could actually see the pitch and improve. I got them back this year and none of them were any better and most didnt seem to have played lol Anyone had success?Comment

Re: FIFA 10 MANAGER MODE Progress thread
I previously posted that I had no problem with weekly wages using a League 2 team...ya well, in year 7, all those scouted homegrown players are at about 85 overall. Instead of asking for 6,000 dollars a week, they ask for 30,000 a week. My top 10 players all had contracts expiring and now I can only resign about 3 of them...I wish this game had let me know some projections so I could sell off players I wasn't going to be able to afford. But no, now im screwedComment
