Re: FIFA 10 MANAGER MODE Progress thread

My first two games of season 2 happen to be both of my top rivals so I decided to capture them. This time it's vs the Goats in the SuperClasico (decided to have Mexican commentary for this one), the only true MLS derby at the moment. I'm off to a good start. Total domination in this one.

Re: FIFA 10 MANAGER MODE Progress thread

Very nice performance against Chivas, rckabilly! Buddle is so speedy. Like the mexican announcers as well, that adds an element.

Just finished up my first season with Borussia Dortmund in the Bundesliga, coming in 5th and barely qualifying for the EFA. We had every chance to get to the Champions League, but lost key games down the stretch, falling 2-1 to bitter rivals Shalke and 1-0 to Leverkusen in the season finale. The surprise of the year was the improbable rise of Borussia Mönchengladbach, who took the league's top honors this year as well as runners up in the DFB Pokal. At 2nd, 3rd, and 4th were Wolfsburg, Bayern Munich, and Bayer Leverkusen, respectively.

The offseason began with a nice reputation boost to put me at 1.5 stars. This still wasn't good enough to see me sign any of my target transfers in the first round of negotiations, but I will keep plugging. On the brighter side, I have found new success with a 4-3-3 formation, which seems to suit my players better than the 4-2-3-1. Also, progression in this game is no joke. I saw modest gains from a few players during the course of the season, and expected similarly modest gains in the offseason. Wow, was i wrong. Players have shot up in 5-10 points in relevant areas. Barrios in particular has gone from a middle of the road striker to a deadly goal-scorer, with finishing shooting up from around 87 to 92.

For the remainder of the offseason, my focus will be on strengthening my defense. Subotic and Hummels are my two young CB's, both of whom have serviceable tackling and marking stats, but yet seem to be routinely carved up. I will try and add a veteran to solidify things at the back until both can progress further. Aggression and speed will be key attributes, and also tactical awareness if that does anything on the defensive side. I need a smart player than can cover for mistakes made in the middle.

EDIT: A nice highlight from Season 1.

i just don't feel nice about the video movement, the players run like a cartoon character. The fans not real enough. No banner! The referee not even touch the net!

Re: FIFA 10 MANAGER MODE Progress thread

So I restarted, again, after getting a homesick feeling while playing for Port Vale. So I've returned to the Red Bulls, and after 12 games I sit third in the MLS, behind Toronto (a team I just can't seem to beat) and the Galaxy. We're just coming off a US Open Cup qualifying game against the Galaxy, and boy was this game intense. Donovan was completely unstoppable and scored almost all of his teams points, I kept the game tied throughout at 4-4 with two goals from Angel, one from Richards, and one from my BAP. In fact the tying goal came in the second extra time period, where Donovan scored again to put his team up 4-3 and I quickly answered back with a goal of my own.

The game came down to penalty kicks, I made 4 PK's, the Galaxy made 3, I couldn't believe I won. The transfer window is open, I made some pretty good moves, IMO. I sent away Kandi, he was just too much money, and I really don't need him with my BAP around. Sold a few extra defenders, and only picked up guys to fill out some of my midfield and defense, I bought the rights to Mario from Villareal B, Unai Exposito, and just recently Mikkel Diskerud. Diskerud surprisingly jumps from a 66 to a 72 depending on what position he plays, I also picked up a rated 59 CM from Africa through scouting. Needless to say, I'm stoked to continue the season with my revamped roster.

Hmm... did you upgrade your position coaches significantly? I didn't notice any major progression, although I could've overlooked it in individual categories.

The only upgrade I made to my skill coaches was to make my defensive coaches go up 1 pt to a 5 (or was it 6?), but nothing over that. The upgrades were mostly on the individual categories, and for attacking players. Things like finishing, positioning, ball control, dribbling seemed to have the most boosts. Another factor that probably impacted this is that at the end of the season, basically every player had orange (bad) form. At the start of the season, they are all green. I'm sure the form boost has accentuated the actual progression gains, but I'll still take it .

The only downside to this is it has made my efforts to wheel and deal this offseason (which I love to do) largely irrelevant. I have youth across the board, most of whom are now at or near 80 OVR. The only signing I've made, and will likely make, is the CB Santacroe because of his high aggression, speedy attributes. I'm hoping he cuts down on the soft goals. Other than that, I'll aim for the stars this season and contemplate leaving next year for a club that needs more work.

Tell me about it, I'm still fairly new to this game, so blocking them was bit of a hassle for me. Most of the time, I'd move from side to side and pray the kicker has a bad kick or pray he kicks the ball to my goal keepers knees or something.

The last missed kick for them I didn't even block, it bounced off the top of the cross bar. Best game I've played yet, and Donovan is beast, but you should already know this.

You could fix the rosters however you want and could've put Donovan on your Crew if you wanted.

Nice! Pretty amazing that you were able to get off a nice powerful strike on target on a pretty slow, awkward run.

Just started a new MM I am Chicago Fire currently in friendlies.

                                In friendlies i am 0-2-1

Not the greatest of starts but I have been playing with mostly reserves.

                                Friendly #1 Fire 0-Redbulls 0
                                Friendly #2 Fire 1-Real Salt Lake 2
                                Friendly #3 Fire 0- A.S.S.E 0

My next friendly is against Siena hoping for another draw Mcbride wont be in Conde wont be in. I am getting rid of Busch once the transfer window is open to gain some cash. I'm also looking for a better striker someone who isn't pricey but can just put the ball in the back of the net. Anyone have any good ideas?
