Re: How's Your FIFA 14 Career Mode Going?

Just started a career mode with Watford as I fancied a team in the championship. And when I was going through their squad I noticed the majority were Udinese/Italian players which sparked an idea. So I bought the financial takeover and aided with 50 million I set about making a full English squad here's who I have so far.

    Forster - 74
    Bryam - 71
    Onuoha - 75
    Baker - 72
    Shaw - 73

    McEachran - 71
    G.Gardner - 68
    Hughes - 71

    Townsend - 75
    Deeney - 70
    Ince - 74

Very interesting team and a good idea for a career, win promotion and get the big names down Vicarage Road!

Nice idea! Seems you've picked a handful of more than decent players there!

In my career mode with liverpool I bought McEachran to develop when he was 71, but he wasnt developing fast enough after two seasons of bench time and loans so i sold him to west ham for £1.7m. Next summer I searched for young box to box centre midfielders of first team quality and he pops up with a valuation of £13m and great stats... maybe should have been more patient!

I had Shaw aswell but ended up selling him as I had two faster and just as young left backs with great potential in Gaya and Alberto Moreno (also have Alaba but use him as a CDM/LM!)

Gardner (still at Villa) is also turning into an absolute beast with really high technical and shooting skills, but with limited movement stats. I always wondered why he always scored against me, that is, until i saw his shooting and finishing stats which are second to none for a centre-mid.

I did the same thing in FIFA 13 with Leyton Orient. Except my squad was only American and English players. It kept my CM more fun and challenging by not buying every young superstar in the game.

Re: How's Your FIFA 14 Career Mode Going?

So last night I got to the round of 16 in the Capital One Cup and lost. I was playing Fulham and scored early then right at the halftime whistle to give me a 2-0 lead. Omg then everything that could have gone wrong did. My defense broke down once I brought in a sub to give me an extra defender. I ended up go my up a goal in the 56th minute. So I'm like ok cool I can still win this. Mind you I'm playing as Bristol Rovers huge underdogs. So everything is going good I'm maintaining the lead about ready to win this game then all of a sudden they score. They scored another goal in the 87th minute to tie it! Ugh I was so mad I'm like really you can't keep a lead. So then we go into extra time and I'm like ok all I Ned to do is get to a shoot out and I'll be ok. Nope they score in the first half of extra time around the 105th minute. I go all out on attack to try and tie it. I had my chances but couldn't get the win. This is why I love this game so much. I forgot I was playing a video game I thought I was actually watching real life soccer. It's intense and great. Best game I have played yet. As you recall earlier I played in the capital one cup and won 1-0 in penalties against Blackburn Rovers. I won that game because they hit pos 3 times

Started a CM with Napoli; but decided to try an experiment to see if I could get Di Maria without using all my transfer budget on him. No matter who I offered alongside my best player not named Higuain, Insigne and Hamsik. Real Madrid eventually told me to shut the hell up because they were done negotiating, I'm going do a real one now and try to buy a more realistic player like Carlos Vela and maybe his Mexican buddy Hector Moreno. I want Chicharito but would have to change to a two striker system and rule out buying Vela.

Here is the first episode of my Fifa 14 Notts County Career mode. I will try to have one episode every other day until I recover from my Tommy John Surgery.

              ENJOY!

Re: How's Your FIFA 14 Career Mode Going?

I watched your videos; nice job with Notts County.

I finally started up my Napoli CM; decided to aim for El-Shaaraway as my top priority to play in my 4-2-3-1 as a left winger. Bought him for $23 million dollars and sent Pandev as well who I had on my transfer list anyway. Then I bought Omar Gonzalez for depth at my CB since Cannavaro plans on retiring at the end of the season. Got him for 3 million. My other big signing was Blaise Maatuidi from PSG. I needed a CDM who was under 30 and found him on an expiring contract. Paid 8 million plus Inler. Also bought Davide Santon from Newcastle for 7.5 million to be my starting Left back.

The big surprise is that I bought Thierry Henry on a free transfer for one season; as soon as his contract ends in the MLS this season he will come to Napoli.

I played the last of my 3 friendlies to get used to my team; First goal was set up by El-Shaaraway as he maneuvered in the box and drew a penalty that Higuain easily made. Second goal came off a corner as El-Shaaraway sent the ball right to Higuain for the header. Last goal was very cool; Callejon, the speedy right winger sent a medium cross to an open Hamsik who scored off a volley with his heel.

I won 3-1; I really like my team. Having Insigne on the bench as someone who can play any of the 4 attacking positions really gives me flexibility. As does having two strong Center backs on the bench with Cannavaro and Gonzalez. The only weakness I may have is lack of depth in the fullback position; I signed Luciano Monzon at the last minute with the remaining 2 million I had to bolster depth there.

Of course my strength is in my attackers with El-Shaaraway on the left, Hamsik in the center, Callejon on the right with Higuain as the striker. Pepe Reina is my GK; he had already been on my team as a loanee so I figure I will use him this season. My back-up is a young Brazilian who Napoli had just signed before I took over named Rafael. He is 77 overall as a 23 year old.

I really think I could compete for the Serie A title; I was kind of surprised Milan let me buy El-Shaaraway since in a trial career mode with Napoli, Roma refused to sell me Michael Bradley since we are in the same league.

Re: How's Your FIFA 14 Career Mode Going?

Played my first match and it ended in a 1-1 tie vs. Bologna. I had so many chances to score especially in the first half but Bologna's keeper made some great saves. Had both El-Shaarawy and Higuain in one on one situations but couldn't convert. Went into the half down 0-1. Finally in the 76th minute El Shaarawy scored on a pure hustle play. He dribbled into the left side of the box, took a shot, it deflected off a defender so he got the rebound and dribbled it some more til he took a finesse shot and curled the ball far post for his first goal in his debut for Napoli.

I learned a lot from the match; I have to capitalize on shots on goal and get Higuain better opportunities to score. In the 90th minute, Insigne who had been subbed earlier as my CAM, intercepted a ball mid-field, took the ball to the top of the box when he finally passed to Zapata my striker running on his right who just subbed in as well. He let loose a rocket that the Keeper just saved, preventing a dramatic win for Napoli.

Even though Bologna out possessed me, I felt like I had the better team. Their goal came on a defensive lapse in my box. They only had 5 shots on goal compared to my 11. The El-Shaarawy-Higuain combo looks phenomenal as they both made heads up runs to receive a through ball sent by my midfielders.

Also, reached transfer deadline. Top 3 deals were Rooney to Bayern Munich for $48,000,000, Lewandowski to Barcelona for $46,500,000 and Thiago Silva to Manchester City for $40,500,000

Re: How's Your FIFA 14 Career Mode Going?

In my 4th season now with liverpool, somehow during the summer my budget went up to £40m and 270k wages, then i got a silly £40m offer for papadopoulos (who is 84 but effectively my 4th choice after varane, mangala, marquinhos) from chelsea and a 38m bid for Pato.

Needless to say I upgraded the squad massively, particularly on the wings with buys of Balotelli (£35m), Bale (£32m), James Rodriguez (Griezmann + £13m), El Shaarawy (swap for Sterling), and Edu Ramos (£14m).

I started finding the game very easy and swept most teams under the carpet, having a goal difference of 26-4 after 8 games in the league. In some cases the score might suggest close games but the shot differences were huge, sometime 12-1 for example.

                      Some results:
                      Charity Shield vs Spurs 1-0
                      European Super Cup 4-0
                      Crystal Palace 2-1
                      Spurs home 2-1
Southampton home 1-1 (scored a 93rd minute leveller)
                      Norwich away 5-0
                      QPR away 4-0

Getting bored I changed to World Class with some minor slider adjustments and saw a minor improvement in gameplay, though continued dominating gameplay:

                      Aston Villa away 2-2
                      PSG 4-1
Bolton 2-1 (brought a couple of youths on at halftime leading 2-0...)

I changed settings to Slow and it seemed to provide more realistic and better gameplay (instead of the ping-pong style back and forth games previously). I also shortened the line height and length abit for CPU and beat West Ham 4-2 (though the shots were 12-3 in my favour).

One big annoyance Im having at this stage is that my players dont seem to fatigue much (if at all!) between games anymore, meaning I can pick the same 11 for midweek games as for the weekend ones, which I dont like. I have a deep squad of players and like having to rotate, so any suggestions on how i can increase fatigue levels are welcome. (btw, I have set injuries frequency to 75 and severity to 25, but have only seen one injury so far (8 weeks), and changing this didnt seem to affect fatigue).

i'm rolling with liverpool. manual controls, 15 minute halves, using my slider set posted in the sliders section.

no 1st transfer window, because i wanted to start with real life rosters only.

had a very rough start, with an elimination to southampton in the league cup and a lot of points dropped in draws (after 10 games, i lost 5 points only to 90 minute goals, btw). started to turn things around a bit and now i'm unbeaten since the league cup elimination (3 wins, 3 draws). yet, manchester united is far far above in the lead, 31 points against 17 of mine (i'm in 9th place).

i'm recording video highlights of every game in my career and coupling them with news style reports. very cool stuff, it's all in my dinasty thread, the link is in my signature.

now i got to the point we are in the season in real life.

this is the video of my derby against everton:

                              here are the standings:

                                increase the acceleration slider.

for some odd reason, stamina depletion is directly linked to this slider. the lower you set it, the less fatigue you get.
