Re: How's Your FIFA 14 Career Mode Going?

I'm having an absolute monster of a time with my run in. Villa, West Ham, Wigan... they've all upped their games in a bid to survive, just like a real run in would go. It's frustrating but rewarding. Should have a FEB-MAY update by midweek.

I'll admit I simulated this match as I didn't feel the need to play one of the worst teams in the world.

        Malaysia 0-1 Tahiti
        L. Tehau 32
The only goal of the game was scored by Lorenzo when he smashed in on the rebound.

        World Cup Qualifiers

        Tahiti 0-0 New Zealand
Despite being against the favourites, we dominated, but the keeper made some great saves to keep us out.

        Solomon Islands 0-0 Tahiti
We just couldn't break this side down in a match filled with chances, most notably Lorenzo Tehau hitting the post of an open goal.

        Friendlies

        Austria 3-0 Tahiti
        Alaba 7
        Arnautovic 32
        Arnautovic 90

Alaba gave the favourites an early lead, rolling it in before Arnautovic smashed in. In stoppage time he headed in to make it 3.

        Tahiti 1-1 China
        Lin 17
        A. Tehau 36

We held our own against the Asian giants and despite going down to a Lin strike, Alvin Tehau headed in an we held on from then.

        World Cup Qualifiers

        Tahiti 0-0 New Caledonia
Another 0-0 draw, we just can't seem to score, but on the bright side we can't concede. I now need luck to go through. It's out of our hands.

        New Caledonia 1-1 Tahiti
        Wahnyamalla 10
        Chong Hue 76

New Caledonia took the lead but a Chong Hue effort kept our hopes alive.

        Recap
It's out of our hands. The current table is:
        New Zealand 7
        Solomon Islands 5
        Tahiti 4
        New Caledonia 3
yikes, I'm not totally familiar with the qualifier system on that side of the world, how many more games do you have left?

          BREAKING NEWS
Private Company invests heavily on AD Alcorcon

AD Alcorcon made a series of surprising moves towards the end of the past transfer window, most noticeably spending funds they didn't appear to previously have. Sources tell us a company of private investors made a large investment on the club after watching them become a sensation in Liga Adelante over the last season and a half. Naturally the investment would seem to be predicated on AD Alcorcon earning a promotion to Liga BBVA after this season, and they seem poised to do just that after a series of strong moves.

The team from the south west of the Madrid metropolitan area acquired 23-year old striker Alex Rubio from Sevilla FC for $700K. They followed this by acquiring center back Omar Gonzalez from LA Galaxy for a reported $2.5 million + fellow CB Chema Rodriguez. This was the first sign that the team had somehow acquired additional funds. Rubio's signing initially appeared to have slammed the door shot on prior negotiations with Cameroonian Steve Leo Beleck, who was an integral part of last season's run. However, the team and Beleck came to an agreement on wages of $25K, yet another sign that there was more money on the pot. AD Alcorcon then further enhanced their defense by adding another centre back, Rafael Soares Martins, from Barcelona FC for $1.2 million. When it seemed like the team was done spending way more money than they had ever had before, Alcorcon made perhaps the biggest splash of any Liga Adelante team by acquiring Argentinian young start, Leandro Paredes, for a reported $25 million. The team then also sent out youngsters Jose Vidal and and Fernando Alonso out on loan.

These series of moves have solidified AD Alcorcon as a favorite to earn a promotion to La Liga after this season. It will be interesting to see whether coach Del Barco will be able to get the new talent on the team to mesh with his prior roster and achieve their goals. After all, even though the team has had a lot of success since his arrival, the team seemed to fall under pressure last season missing out on the promotion in excruciating fashion.

          Stay tuned.

              Early Season Press Conference

After making a splash in the past transfer windows the media bombarded team directors with requests to interview team coach, Diego Del Barco. The team made Del Barco available for an impromptu session:

Reporter: You have now played three games since your reason acquisitions, what's your assessment of the team at this point?
Coach: We've done well I believe. That first game against Lugo maybe we weren't clicking on all levels and were only able to muster a draw, but I think the results speak for themselves over the last two games (4-1 W vs. Alaves, 3-1 W at Recreativo). I really feel that the new guys have been able to adapt quickly to the system and the rest of the team has been very welcoming.

R: That win against Alaves, was it extra especial considering the result against them at the end of the last season? (Alaves beat AD Alcorcon 3-0, assuring the team would have to enter the playoff for the last promotion spot).
C: A little bit, it's difficult not to go back to that game being so recent. It felt like it was haunting us a bit once they got that early lead, but scoring four straight goals thereafter was really something, and the guys enjoyed it way more than I did.

R: By all accounts there is a bigger expectation now of your team as far as achieving a promotion to La Liga next season. How does that change your approach to each game?
C: It doesn't. That's been the approach all along. My first half season here was all about identifying what we had and what was needed. To go along with that we were able to have a good finish to the season that really gave us some momentum going into last season, when we set our sights on a promotion even though the board had communicated to me that they would be pleased if we just obtained a high finish on the table. I'm always going to shoot for the stars. I think right now we have a strong set of astronauts that can get us there. I think speak for everyone in our staff when I say that not achieving that goal this season will be a disappointment, especially after falling just short last season.

R: You speak about astronauts on your team, and the term seems fitting for a player who is now the center of attention on your roster - Leonardo Paredes. Can you tell us a little bit about how he's made the transition from Boca Juniors?
C: Flawless. It's no secret he caught my age since my time there when he replaced a legend like Juan Roman Riquelme without issue. He just continued to improve his game even after I came here to Alcorcon and when we realized we had a chance to bring him here we rolled the dice. He has adjusted really well having had a hand on 5 goals (2 goals, 3 assists) in his first 3 games. I'm really excited about having him here for the foreseeable future.

R: Are everyone's roles already set at this point? If so could you maybe share some insight into that?
C: Sure, I really feel like that's something that I like to define right away (setting everyone's roles) just so that everyone is on the same page and I can clear up any questions the players may have. We'll continue to roll a 4-4-2 diamond and there are currently no roster battles taking place. The starters are D'Angelo (GK), Navarro (RB), Serran (CB), Gonzalez (CB), Traore (LB), Essien (CDM), Barraco (RM), Aguirre (LM), Paredes (CAM), Beleck (RS), and Farago (LS). Our main subs are Miguel (CAM/CF), Rubio (ST), Gomez (CM/CAM), Adolfo (ST/CF), Costa (CAM/CM/CF), Ponce (LM/RM), and Carmona (CM/CDM/CAM). Reserves are Soares Martins (CB/RB), Demichelis (CB/CM/CDM), Moya (CF/LB), Alvarez (CM/CDM), Prendes (LM/CAM/CF/RM), Barrera (CM/CAM), Lopez (CAM/CM), Romero (CM/CAM/CDM), and Couto (CAM/CM). Yamura is our only injured player at the moment. He has an ACL injury and isn't expected back until at least the second half of the season.

              (last question)
R: Could you maybe talk about the youth on your roster? It seems like, at least prior to the most recent signings, the team had a heavy approach towards their youth squad. Just over half of the roster you just mentioned was acquired through your scouting system and several others are out on loan. How important are they to this team?
C: Vital. At the end of the day we're still a small budget team so being able to identify young talent that we are able to input into our roster remains key. It's also important to us to identify talent all over the world. Right now we have starters from Italy (Barraco and Farago) and Peru (Aguirre) with subs/reserves from Argentina, Spain, Venezuela, and Brazil. Yamura was an excellent find in Japan. Our youth squad also has players from many of these countries and we currently have scouts out on England and Germany. Creating a strong youth unit will remain a goal of ours.

R: Before you go, could you comment on your current role as coach of the Venezuelan national team?
C: Sure, we just had a not so successful couple of games where we only came away with one point after visiting Ecuador (0-1 L) and hosting Colombia (1-1 D), and we're not where we want to be on the standings (7th with 8 points through 8 games). We will need to have a strong turnaround in the second half of the qualifiers and I think the team understands that and is eager to qualify to the World Cup for the first time in team history. We have games against Chile (4th) and Argentina (1st) in the next 2-3 weeks so we'll work hard on preparing for that.

              Wish me luck. Thanks guys!

I'm with you, I don't like the idea of it but it just made sense to use it considering I wanted to stay here and I'm too close to getting into La Liga to be messing with building a budget.

rating didn't change much, went from 2 1/2 stars to 3 stars

                  Press Conference

Q: You've fallen to the bottom half of the table despite only losing 1 game this month. Do you feel the spot is representative of the level this team is playing at?

A: We dropped too many points through draws this past month to be able to maintain our position. Our defense is playing much better though. We just need to get our attack back to the level it was playing at before. The formation change shouldn't have too much of an effect on the way the attack is designed, I believe it was just an off month for our forwards.

Q: In order to get the team back on track, who needs to be the one to step up?

A: I'd say it would come down to a couple players. The main ones I'd mention would be our captain Juan Dominguez, and Suso. These are players that we have leaned on to lead us over the past 1-2 years and they are the key to this team winning games. Both are excellent at both setting up teammates and getting their own shots off.

Q: It looks like the new 4-1-4-1 formation is here to stay. You haven't switched back to the old formation since the implementation of this new one. Is this what we can expect to see going forward?

A: This is our base formation now and we will be playing in it for the majority of time we are on the pitch. The old formation will still make appearances when we are in need of late goals since it adds an attacking mid to sit right behind the striker, but for the most part the new formation with the deep lying defensive mid is what you can expect to see.

                      NEW: J. Martinez 10'
                      WIM: Murphy 62'
Match went to penalty shootout, where AFC Wimbledon came out on top 4-2 and are into the Capital One Cup final! Newcastle's new signing Jackson Martinez played astonishingly well for 120 minutes, but the pressure was too much for the new player trying to make a name for himself at his new club and he missed his penalty along with Remy.

AFC Wimbledon 1 - 2 Liverpool (FA Cup)
                      LIV: Iago Aspas 6' 29'
                      WIM: Gornell 90'
Liverpool have taken revenge from last month and eliminated Wimbledon from the FA Cup. Aspas, who did not play in their first meeting, was too much for the Wimbledon defenders. He was substituted out at halftime for Sturridge, at which point the Liverpool attack died down as Suarez and Sturridge could not shake off their marks. Wimbledon's reaction came too late, but they'll be happy to see their new signing score against a Premier League team in just his second appearance for Wimbledon.

                      WAL: Ngoo 15'
AFC Wimbledon looked a bit shaky following their elimination from the FA Cup, but were able to hold Walsall to a penalty shootout. Wimbledon achieved their pass to the J. Paint Trophy finals with a 4-3 score in penalties!

                      Huddersfield Town 0 - 2 AFC Wimbledon
                      WIM: Kedwell 44' 75'
3rd place Wimbledon have achieved a league double over 1st place Huddersfield, gaining vital points as they continue to pursue an auto-promotion league position.

AFC Wimbledon 0 - 0 Preston North End

                      MK Dons 0 - 0 AFC Wimbledon
As usual between these two sides, a very aggressive match that was a 90 minute midfield battle. Spectators saw almost no shots on goal, but were no doubt entertained by the ruthless tackles made by both sets of players.

                      AFC Wimbledon 1 - 0 Gillingham
                      WIM: Moore 58'
Luke Moore scored a wonderful goal with flair. The goal was so amazing, that the league actually awarded Moore the goal AND the assist for his own goal. (Not joking!)

                      Football League 1 Table
                      1. Charlton Athletic - 77 points

                      Summary
AFC Wimbledon will face Manchester United in the Capital One Cup FINAL this upcoming month, as well as Charlton Athletic in the J. Paint Trophy FINAL. Manchester United are the clear favorites, however AFC Wimbledon have proven that they cannot be underestimated. Despite being eliminated from the FA Cup, Wimbledon have made history in cup runs, as well as in the league.

Terry Gornell has established himself as a promising goal scorer after scoring a hat-trick in his debut vs Yeovil, and then scoring against Liverpool two days later. In just two games, Gornell has already equalized Charlie Sheringham who also has 4 goals, but in 25 appearances. Meanwhile, Danny Kedwell has 19 goals in 33 games (all competitions).

For the first time since their promotion to League 1, AFC Wimbledon are in an auto promotion spot! They are the league's best defense having allowed only 14 goals so far followed by Charlton who have allowed 24 goals. The best offense is Huddersfield with 66 goals, while Wimbledon is in 10th place with just 45 goals.

2 star youth scout Marcus Wihlborg has been recalled from his 9 month England tour and sent back with new directions. Sources close to the institution say that Chavez has not been happy at all with the majority of the players the man from Sweden has brought him. Wihlborg will have to think twice before sending his new scout reports, as his employment may be on the line.

Really nice results, especially against Newcastle! Congrants on making it into the final! I have a little suggestions: you could put the matches and that stuff in the centre, in my opinion it looks better. Just a personal preference.

And how do you defend and what formation are you using? The 5-4-1 still?

And if someone cares, I'll try to get a Hertha update for tomorrow. After it there won't be any for about two weeks because I'm going abroad... again.

So tomorrow is my last day of work until Monday due to the holidays here and my woman is out of town until Sunday. I think it's safe to say, FIFA will be played.

                              TAHITI: MINNOWS IN RIO?

                              2013

                              World Cup Qualifiers

                              New Zealand 0-2 Tahiti
                              Caroine 5
                              Hnanyne 51

Finally a win in the most important match so far. Now we need a landslide against the Solomon Islands and for New Caledonia to hold their own, come on.

                              Tahiti 8-2 Solomon Islands
                              Caroine 3
                              Hnanyne 9
                              A. Tehau 13
                              A. Tehau 14
                              Hnanyne 17
                              A. Tehau 23
                              J. Tehau 27
                              Hnanyne 45
                              Fa'arodo 55
                              Roche (OG) 75

What a result! I couldn't believe my eyes. We played magnificently, knowing a win was what we needed, and a landslide at that, we shockingly delivered. Caroine converted after some brilliant play and then the second was through a ball over the top. Alvin smashed in after being unselfishly passed to, and less than a minute later had won the ball, beat the defence and scored. Hnanyne scored his second with a curling effort before Alvin volleyed in. J. Tehau then scored a side scissor kick before Hnanyne headed in. 8-0 at half time! Fa'arodo curled in before a shot collided off the bar and bounced in off Roche but it was all over. And after all that, New Caledonia won

                              Group Table

                              Tahiti 10
                              Solomon Islands 8
                              New Zealand 7
                              New Caledonia 6

                              Friendly

                              Tahiti 2-0 Fiji
                              A. Tehau 10
                              Hnanyne 72

After that brilliant result, this was kind of underwhelming. Tehau headed in before Hnanyne knocked in a rebound effort

                              Inter-Confederation Play-Offs

                              Tahiti 1-1 Honduras
                              J. Tehau 79
                              Garcia 84

We played unbelievably well and Tehau robbed the keeper and fired into an empty net to give us a shock lead. Unfortunately, Garcia capitalised on a mix up defensively.

                              Honduras 1-3 Tahiti
                              Costly 36
                              Bourebare 72
                              Ludivion 86
                              A. Tehau 90

What a comeback. Tahiti have qualified for a World Cup, unbelievable. Costly gave Honduras the lead smashing it in past the keeper. Bourebare, after a spell of dominance, smashed in a stunner from distance, a part timer, scoring a world class goal. We then took the lead through a powerful header by Ludivion from a corner, and it was wrapped up on the counter when Tehau ran clear and smashed in to the bottom corner.

We did it!!!! We proved the doubters wrong and made it to the World Cup. Unfortunately we have the hosts, Brazil, a young, highly rated Swiss side and the pacey, reigning CAF Nations Cup champions, Nigeria.

                                Tahiti 1-1 Latvia
I simmed these matches because they were not against opposition of World Cup quality

                                2014 FIFA World Cup

                                Tahiti 1-1 Nigeria
                                Musa 55
                                Atani 71

What a result. A point for the minnows in their first game at a World Cup. We conceded first when the Nigerian's used their pace to break and Musa headed in a cross. Atani headed in a deserved equaliser from a corner to send the Tahitian's into ecstasy, along with every neutral around the world.

                                Brazil 2-1 Tahiti
                                Willian 23

                                L. Tehau 70

Willian gave the Brazilians the lead, smashing in before Hulk headed in, but they underestimated us. Lorenzo smashed in from the edge of the box and Hnanyne had a shot brilliantly saved in stoppage time.

                                Switzerland 0-1 Tahiti
                                A. Tehau 60
What an unbelievable scoreline. The Swiss underestimated us and Alvin used his strength to hold off the defender before smashing in to the bottom corner. We then held off the Swiss for the rest of the match. And with Brazil beating Nigeria 1-0 meant we went through.

                                Thoughts
A valiant effort, in fact no, an outstanding effort. To progress to the knockout stages was amazing and I hope Tahiti can continue to do well.

Hope you enjoyed, I know I did. The end.
