Re: How's Your FIFA 14 Career Mode Going?

Just wrapped up my 2nd season with Southampton, heading into my 3rd now...

I finished 6th place again (FURIOUSSSS) but only because of Goal difference. I had 74 points, but Arsenal, Liverpool, and United all ended up above me. Much like my first season, I had a late season collapse where I ended up getting only like 7 points from my final 5 matches. Just wasnt enough to remain in a champions league spot...

I was also eliminated in the Round of 32 of the Euro League this season (went through qualifying to get to the group stage) by Wolfsburg. They had a really good team, kind of got screwed getting matched up with them because I dominated my group.

Now heading into this season I have a $45 mill budget. I like my team and Ive bought some good young players, including Ravel Morrison, Steven Caulker, and someone else whose name is escaping me at the moment. I also cheated a tad and got the ~sick youth player~ unlock from the catalogue, and, after 2 seasons in the youth academy, Portuguese sensation Martinho Bastos will be a full time player for me. Hes only 17, and since I got both May 1st boosts before I promoted him, so hes currently a 76 with 94 potential. Im really, really excited about him. He plays LW, ST, and CAM, so he'll be good for depth up there too.

Anyway.. what should I use that 45 mill on ? My board apparently wants me to break the bank for a premier defender, but I actually think my defense is fine (and they're all young and developing). So do I have to listen to them? Will they be mad if I dont? I wouldnt mind adding another great defender, but I really want a CAM.

Oh yeah, I resigned as Colombia's manager (just wasnt feeling it at all with them - is it just me or is Falcao the most underwhelming 90 rated player ever?) and the USA immediately offered me a job. I took it because why not. So now this Summer before the season starts Ill be playing in the American Cup Tournament with them. My group is Peru, Uruguay, and ... Colombia.

my board wanted a defender in my first window, but liverpool is probably the team with the biggest number of decent center backs in the world, so i ignored them and brought a CAM and a ST.

from my experience in fifa 13, you probably won't hear a word about it.

Re: How's Your FIFA 14 Career Mode Going?

So I just got promoted again now I'm in the championship league and I started off my season by acquiring Butland as keeper a very heft price. 8.5 million but worth it. So I start the capital one cup off against my rival Bristol City. It's a great game they score in the 11th minute and we go into halftime down 1. Then the 2nd half we come out and score to tie the game I'm like sweet we can win this. Then I give up a goal that was due to my bad defending. So we are going into the 90th minute down one and my midfielder strikes one off the crossbar and the rebound comes out t my guy who tries to head it in and the goals makes a sweet save to deny me. So I intercept the al an go doe to score as the final whistle blows to tie it and I miss it wide left. What a great game. I never get out in the furry done of capital cup bu this time I did. I love this game

Update on Sporting CP: Year 2.

              Everybody got hurt.

              Well, not everybody.

At one point in the season, my entire first choice back line was out for almost two months. Marc-Andre Ter Stegen broke his leg and was out for four months. Alessio Cerci out for three months. My backups could handle most of the league play, but not UCL.

Everyone's now back to health, but it's the middle of February. I came in third in a UCL group that included PSG and Atletico Madrid. Somehow just two points behind Benfica in the Portuguese League race thanks to a 12-match winning streak against the scrubs of our league. Lost my chance at a repeat of Taca de Portugal with a quarterfinal loss to Academia during the worst of the injury bug.

In January, I loaned out my unhappy youngsters, sold some dead weight and bought Carlos Vela from Sociedad. He was not happy being in 19th in La Liga, so I gave him a 25% pay bump to "step down" to our league.

Round of 36 Europa League tie is with Leverkusen, and the match in-between is at Porto. It'll be ter Stegen's first match back, and the first time all season I'll be able to run a front three of Diego Capel, Cerci and Vela.

                Hi everyone

Since I'm not a football fan at all (I don't even know the rules fully, but enough to be able to play) this is my first FIFA game.

I started the career as a player (ST) and choose BVB Dortmund.
First season I was on loan to Nimes Olympique. Won the Legue 2 and the national cup. As well as I got the player of the year.
Second season I was back at BVB Dortmund.
Won the Bundesliga, but got just to the semifinals of the Deutscher Pokal.
Third season (now) I gota transfer to Chelsea and currently we are leading the PL with 4 wins out of 4 games played.

But I have some questions to which I can't find an answer via Google
                1. How do you get picked for a national team? For my player I choose that he is latvian by nationality. Since there is no Latvia National team in FIFA14 does that mean I will never go to a national team?
                2. On the second and third seasons I played in clubs which take part in the Champions cup. But when always a Champions Cup game came I wasn't picked for the starting 11. Why is that?

Unfortunately if your player is not from a country with a national team then he'll never play internationally. As for the champions cup, what's your rating, and how is your stamina before the games?

Re: How's Your FIFA 14 Career Mode Going?

Just finished up year 2 (hired in December by PSV from Dynamo Dresden).

I had a bit of a remarkable but bittersweet run in my half season with PSV. Didn't lose a game until the final match of the season when I fielded a really scrubby side against Waalwijk. Drew too many games though going 15-9-1, and wasn't able to overcome the deficit in the league table that got the incumbent manager fired. My PSV squad finished fourth with 65 points.

The league was pretty interesting down the stretch with Twente doing a face plant and conceding a twelve point lead in January. Feyenoord ultimately took the title, Ajax was second, and Twente fell to third.

My consolation prize was a rampage through the entire Dutch Cup bracket, and denying Feyenoord the double in the final.

After the side from Rotterdam scored an early goal in the sixth minute we absolutely annihilated them with our overall advantage in quality, but most obvious was the size mismatch. They had no answer for Locadia in the box. The dude was determined as hell outmuscling guys en route to two goals (would have had a hat-trick if not for shocking user error). Feyenoord was hacking away at him all day, but he was a beast.

Also, somewhat poetically, my winter depth signing Vestergaard at CB added the go ahead goal off a corner at the end of the first half. Again, our squad's size advantage was in play here as they had no one to compete in the air with the 6'6" 216lb monster. Just a hugely satisfying performance to take home my first piece of hardware in my second year of CM. 61-39 possession advantage in my favor. Nice to see after getting dominated to the same tune by Waalwijk in that disastrous final league game of the season.

The move up to a squad like PSV has been an absolute joy. I am itching to have a go at the league title next year. The team certainly stacks up well to make a run. All the key pieces have term left on decent contracts, and there is a good chunk of cash in the bank. Things are in good shape.

Re: How's Your FIFA 14 Career Mode Going?

                      Let's start from the beginning.

I have played my first 15 seasons trying to build up on a team from second division (Gillingham I think) and got sacked after I promoted them to the next level because in the next season I could not obtain a mid-table position. I have to admit that I was a bit of a noob back then, not knowing some important features of the game. But what strikes me the most was the boards expectations. "Avoiding relegation" would seem like a more suitable level. However, somewhere along the way I found the "Load game" option. God smiled at me again.

So, if it wasn't for the Save - Load functionality, I would say my career mode would go pretty crappy. So thank you EA for making my life so much easier, now that I can reload and play/sim a game over and over until an acceptable result pops up! I find the game sims pretty frustrating at times, but given the fact that the soccer game is stil played with a round ball, anything can happen. What? you guys out there don't replay matches that suck when simming the result? Or reload if your newly purchased star gets a "4 months injury"? In the end it is completely up to you what you perceive as "fun" or "realistic".

In my case, I won't spend hours before every game trying to figure out the best formation for the next encounter because in the end it is stil the random factor who decides a game's outcome. Unless you decide to take action and play the match yourself.
As an example, I am playing with Derby County now and I am almost done with the second season. I tried to win over Manchester City at home in the FA Cup quarter finals, but to no avail. Kept losing at home. 0-1, 0-2, 1-2, 0-1, and after a while I tried to win the game by playing myself. Which was no fun at all. I ended up playing on icy surface and losing again. Did I forgot to tell you? I hate Neymar!

But what I try to do as a manager is to pick the best players for the game, and give my players a decent share of action on the pitch throughout the season. I also monitor the players OVR rating increases and to my surprise I found that a couple of players in my current team increased alot while others stagnated. I find this aspect of realism kinda fun, because otherwise you will always go purchase certain players that always have a value increase as soon as you start playing them. Which actually happens alot, but not as a rule. I bought for instance, right at the start of the first season, the talented striker Benzia, that starts according to the web sites I checked was supposed to hit 85 at some point. Same goes for M. Kovacic (CM, CAM) and Bruma (RW/LW), that refused to develop during their first season. A completely different story was with ZAKARIA BAKKALI, RW from PSV, age 17, start OVR: 73, pot OVR: 90. I bought him in the first summer transfer window and this lad got to 81 already and the second season is not finished yet. It remains to be seen if there is a point keeping these players at the club or not. I sent out Benzia on a loan because I wanted to see if it was something at my club stopping him from blooming. So far he did not increase at the new club either.

Re: How's Your FIFA 14 Career Mode Going?

Some issues with the game that I don’t like that much are:
-The need to save the game right before I am going to SIM it. Just so I can replay the game in case the results are just over the wall. As it is now, I have to chose a ”Save and quit” option when all I want is to save and continue. Why not a ”Save and continue” option? Same goes after I played the game and I accept the result. You could of course just continue, without saving, but things happen between matches and players might get injured in training sessions, leaving you with a crippled squad. And then you have to quit the career mode and reload and replay that game again.
-The SIM of a game would be alot better if players would not score so much in the first minute of a game, or having 2 goals in the same minute (one for each team).
-Red cards seem to have little impact on the game result. Same goes for comments you make before a game (either it is praise or motivate).
-The rapid decline in player form once you are experiencing a loss. I would understand a small decline in a players morale, but a players form?
-The confusing labeling of a players position. What I would do instead, it would be to redifine positioning according to a players actual position during games. For instance, if I chose to play my so called midfielder as a striker because his finishing and dribling is decent too, then after a couple of games (say 5) my player would display a new position in his labeling defining him as CM / ST. Later on, if his crossing skills are getting higher, maybe I want to use him as a winger and after another 5 games in a winger position he gets CM / ST / LW. Only 4 positions could be active at a time, the player suffering some penalty to his abilities if played in another position (like when trying to teach him a new role).
-The contradictory information you sometimes get when analysing the player progress. At some point I had a -1 in OVR for a 29 years old CB when the detailed description showed an actual increase in 2 stats (can’t remember which ones).
-I don’t like the fact that player stats are slowly vanishing from the POT column of the youngster in your youth accademy after the player has been in there for a while. If anything, I would be able to guess even better his potential. How accurate are those predictions by the way? Is my 5*5* youth scout better or worse than the accademy staff?

Only into my 7th game of CM on XboxOne, and have decided to turn off handballs after losing 2-1 in extra time against Spurs (I'm Newcastle). All three goals were handball penalties, I've had seven penalties in seven games now, and five have been handballs...Next Gen is vastly different.

Adding to it, the Kinect has recorded me swearing, and I've received two board warnings, with the latest threatening breach of contract/termination if my poor conduct continues. I'm top of the table BTW (4-1-0).

I've dropped down from 15 minutes to 10 minute halves and it seems to be playing the same as 15 minute halves so far, so I'm rolling with it. Using Orion's next gen sliders.

Feel free to check out the website through the link in my Signature. I've started using video highlights through an app on the XboxOne, and think I'll start creating highlight reels instead of just one highlight for each match report. The app allows me to string together/eidt 5 clips, and upload them to the Cloud.

I think simming games are stupid and how you lose interest quick in your CM. Like honestly people act like taking a crappy team, simming every game and spending a budget is hard to do, its fifa 14, not real life.

The challenge of playing a head season AND managing the team, is where the real challenges are at. Building a relationship & an emotional feeling with your team comes from playing the games, tough losses, game winners, not simming the games.

Why people buy Fifa 14 and sim all the games I will never understand when they make a game called Football Manager lol

Just the simple fact that every one takes small crappy club and makes them top tier is a testament to what im saying, it takes no skill simming games and taking a team to the top in FIFA. It just doesn't, and also, how realistic is it? Not at all.
