    Northampton
    Season 1
    League 2

    Febuary

    League Objective: Fight for Promotion

    J. Paint Trophy Area Final
    Peterborough 1 - 1 Northampton
    Hooper 11‘
    Rowe 40‘

A very even match that we played very defensively in after we scored and absorbed a lot of pressure. Wish we could have beat them a second time but knocking them out of the cup will have to do I guess.

    League
    Northampton 2 - 0 Cheltenham
    Cristian Lopez 11‘
    Deegan 29‘

An even match shot wise with us just using our chances better than they did. They definitely could have tied the match. Brad Walker made his debut and played a great match defensively but was a little tentative going forward.

    League
    Northampton 6 - 0 AFC Wimbledon
    Hooper 12‘
    Marquis 27‘
    Moore 39‘
    Hooper 54‘
    Hooper 72‘
    Hooper 84‘

A very one sided match as the score suggest, we were very clinical scoring six out of eight shots. Hooper was on fire and finished the match with 4 goals, an assist, and a 9.7 match rating. Wimbledon keeper Ross Warner had a terrible match only making two saves and ended the match with a 4.9 match rating. Moore after the match said it was a difficult win for him because he is still friends with lots of player on the Wimbledon team but also said he was glad he moved on to better things and looked forward to hopefully getting promoted.

    League
    Portsmouth 1 - 0 Northampton
    Shorey 65‘
The most evenly matched match all year. The top two teams battled it out that was only decided by a brilliant free kick that went right over the wall and dipped right under the bar it was a wonderful show of skill. Portsmouth closed the lead just a little bit more and are hoping that a miracles turn of events can see them claim first place come the end of the campaign.

    TABLE:

    1. Northampton - 82 pts
    2. Portsmouth - 66 pts
    3. S****horpe Utd - 59 pts
    4. Plymouth Argyle - 57 pts
    5. Rochdale - 55 pts
    6. Bristol Rovers - 55 pts
    7. Oxford Utd - 50 pts

    YOUTH ACADEMY:

    Danny Woods - Age 15 - ? - England - Ovr 40/50 - Pot. 67/83
    James Willis - Age 15 - RM -England - Ovr 47/55 - Pot. 69/81
    Joe Connell - Age 15 - CB - England - Ovr 42/44 - Pot. 80/86
    Tyias Kellett - Age 15 - ? - England - Ovr 42/54 - Pot 62/80

    Q. You knocked out Peterborough to go through to the Johnston Paint Trophy Final how excited are you to go play in that match?

    A. I think everyone is hyped up for it. Hopefully we can go win it for the fans and just play a good match.

    Q. You are top of the league with about 2 months left of the season do you think you can stay on top?

    A. Of course all we have to do is keep playing like we have played sense the first match of the season and we will win the title if we can do that.

    Q. You thrashed AFC Wimbledon how was that match for you?

    A. Great! Anytime we win 6 - 0 that is good for me, that is the biggest margin we have won by and that I think shows that we are getting better and better.

    Q. Everyone in your academy is 15 do you plan to sign anyone older?

    A. Probably not because we need time to develop them the way that I want them developed and if they are already 16 by the time we sign them that may not be enough time.

    Q. Do you think anybody from your academy will be called up next season?

    A. It is possible, but I have to assess all of them and I plan on doing that after our last match in May.

I should have my end of season update out tonight. 3 matches left to play (2 in April, 1 in May but I'm just going to do 1 update). I'll have the final table, stat leaders, and also the ratings of my promoted youth academy players.

The chief said I could counter for up to 4 million but after thinking long and hard about it I decided not to. For one, it was on deadline day so I wouldn't have any time to replace with anyone. He's an academy player and he isn't a starter, he actually doesn't play that much, but I didn't want to be short handed since I'm struggling in the league. Just thought it was weird to receive an offer from them almost right after I had finished reading about rabbit's dealings. By the way, great use of that transfer money!

Dagenham's been doing business with Barcelona? Talk about surprise signings! I'm thrilled for you, Rabbit, really glad to see you re-invested the cash wisely instead of blowing it on one lad.

Good to see Chavez spurn the advances of Europe's elitist elite.

            Capital One Cup: Everton
            Johnstone's Paint Trophy: Southend United

            Notes

            • Final record: 35 wins, 5 draws, 6 losses, 97 goals for, 31 against

            • I can't believe Monaco parted with Anthony Martial for under a million quid, but I'm also thrilled! The French lad picked up around half a dozen goals in 15 or so games. His stamina isn't ideal, but that's fine as he doesn't start most games.

            • Nicky Shorey was released after picking up a cruciate injury in the last week of January, causing Wigan to retract their offer for him. Without his wages off the books, I wouldn't have much of a budget for next season.

            • Scott Wagstaff, Joe Bryan, Sam Baldock, Liam Fontaine and Liam Kelly are the core of this side. I will focus on building around their strengths next seasons.

            • Baldock asked for a raise and was treated to a five-year deal worth £15,000 per week. New contracts also went out to Derrick Williams, Marvin Elliott and Wesley Burns.

            • Marlon Harewood joined Louis Carey in calling time on his playing career. Both players started the final match against Colchester, with Carey wearing the captain's armband and scoring the sole goal off a corner. Talk about romance!

            • I'm not sure which side is going up to the Championship with us and Wolves, nor do I know who'll be relegated from the top flight. Either way, the 50 grand I have in wages carry into my new budget.

            • Next season, we will be playing a 4-2-3-1. After offloading some deadwood and surplus players, we will only need a backup goalkeeper to Frank Fielding, so we will look at bringing Ruben Blanco back on another loan spell. That way, we can continue saving for the Premier League.

            • Long-term, I will be targeting a few regens. Among the players set to retire this summer whose regens I will be scouting are Frank Lampard, Ryan Giggs, Eric Abidal, Mark Schwarzer, Francesco Totti, Luca Toni, Carles Puyol and David Pizarro.

EDIT: I also promoted my youth prospect Santi Aguirre at the end of May. He's a LM as predicted, 66 OVR with 'potential to be special'. He's got moderate pace and very good ball skills, so I think I may keep him around as a backup next season. If he doesn't play at least 10 games by January, I'll loan him out.

              20. Sporting Gijon - 19pts

Sigh. I needed to get more points out of those games in February. This is frustrating as hell. I played Villareal evenly throughout but they scored in like half of their chances while I got nothing to go in. I dominated Mallorca although the score doesn't reflect it and that's frustrating as hell because I NEED goal differential (currently -9). Celta couldn't even hang with me and I was finally looking like I was gonna separate myself from them and next thing you know it was a draw. Rayo has now twice played me like they're Barcelona. I wanna break everything in sight.

Only 3 league games in March to go with 2 friendlies which I probably won't sim this time around. I need to get the 6 points vs Gijon and Getafe then see if I can take something from Barca. 11 points from my goal with 12 games to play is a really tall task but I haven't given up yet.

I received initial reports from scouts in Netherlands and Cameroon but didn't sign anyone yet. Here's the Youth Squad:

              - Badile Salawu (LW, 67-17 OVR, 89-94 POT): Our top prospect is this 16 Y/O kid from Nigeria. We're hopeful he won't request a call up this season but he will see significant minutes right away whenever he gets the call.
              - In Sung Jo (RB/RWB, 59-63, 81-87: The fastest prospect in our academy (88 acc, 87 speed) is this 16 Y/O from South Korea. He'd be a backup on our roster right now but if he waits in the academy until the end of the season he could end up being the starter at RB next season.
              - Maximilian Knoll (CAM, 60-64, 83-89): 17 Y/O kid from Germany who we hope will remain in the academy for the rest of the season. Could be Paredes' sub next season.
              - Andre Meirelles (CM, 48-50, 87-93): A recent signing from Brazil earlier this season, this 16 Y/O kid should be ready to contribute in a couple of seasons.
              - Juan Morientes (CM, 53-37, 87-93): Similar to Meirelles, this 16 Y/O kid from Spain was found earlier this season and needs to work hard in the academy for a while before he'll be ready to get the call.
              - Florian Nickenig (CB, 53-57, 75-81): 16 Y/O from Germany who has spent nearly a year in our academy. We would like to see how he progresses by the end of the season.
              - Patricio Estrada (RM, 56-60, 74-80): The oldest member of our academy is this 18 Y/O from Peru. We're in no rush to call him up but we're expecting him to demand a call up any time now.
              - Hiroya Imada (CF, 56-60, 74-80: 17 Y/O from Japan has spent a couple of seasons in our academy and we'll accept his demand to be called up whenever he makes it.
              - Hiroya Tamazaki (RM/RW, 58-62, 73-79): 17 Y/O from Japan who like Imada has spent his time at the academy.
              - Adam Lee (CDM, 54-58, 73-79): 17 Y/O from England with nice height (6'2") but will probably go on loan once he's called up.
              - Markus Goretzka (CB, 53-57, 73-79): 16 Y/O from Germany who needs to spend at least another season in the academy.

How's Your FIFA 14 Career Mode Going?

                January 2017 - Season 4

                Newcastle United 1 - 1 AFC Wimbledon
                WIM: Hanson 26'
                NEW: Martinez 53'
Newcastle's Jackson Martinez was able to take 2 points away from Wimbledon through a goal from a very weak shot. The ball rolled very slowly towards goal but Ross Worner still managed to dive late. After the match, the captain armband was taken away from Worner and Terry Gornell was named the new Wimbledon captain, while Worner steps down to Vice Captain once again.

                FA Cup:
                AFC Wimbledon 1 - 1 Manchester City
                MCI: Jovetic 30'
                WIM: Hanson 65'
Manchester City pushed Wimbledon aside earlier in the league, but this time in the cup Wimbledon were able to force a replay.

                Capital One Cup Semifinals
                AFC Wimbledon 1 - 1 Chelsea
                WIM: James 13'
                CHE: Benteke 15'

                AFC Wimbledon 0 - 0 Liverpool
An exciting match but no one was able to open the scoreline. Liverpool left back Jose Enrique was relieved to hear the final whistle as he had been run dry by Wimbledon midfielder Elliott Hewitt on the wing.

                FA Cup Replay
                Manchester City 0 - 2 AFC Wimbledon
                WIM: Hanson 11' Vincent 45'
A huge surprise coming from the Etihad as Wimbledon eliminated City from the FA Cup. Hanson opened the scoreline by heading in a corner, as usual. Citizen fans will be angered when they watch the replay and see that the man at the first post, Matuidi, could have stopped Hanson's goal by jumping or at least standing on his toes. Right before halftime Shaun Vincent scored the first goal of his career which will make this match even more memorable.

                Aston Villa 1 - 0 AFC Wimbledon
                AVL: Weimann 63'
Aston Villa have taken 6 out of 6 points from their matches against Wimbledon, but the focus of attention is their goalkeeper Jason Steele who once again played a flawless match against Wimbledon, winning the Man of The Match award with a 9.7 rating. Wimbledon dominated the match with 67% possession but weren't able to defeat the Villa goalkeeper.

                Capital One Cup Semifinals
                Chelsea 4 - 1 AFC Wimbledon
                CHE: Atsu 7' Matic 20' Willian 53' 89'
                WIM: Gornell 84'
Wimbledon came into the match with high hopes but the "B" team was overrun by Chelsea. Desperate to at least get a shot on goal, Chavez changed the formation from 3-5-2 to 3-4-3 at halftime. Even with the increase of players in Chelsea's half Wimbledon were still unable to create danger. 15 minutes before the end of the match Terry Gornell was subbed in to play as the only striker up front and immediately changed the face of the match, getting a goal himself. Gornell might not score, sometimes not even shoot, when he's partnered with another striker but he continues to be at his most dangerous when he's alone up front.

                FA Cup
                AFC Wimbledon 2 - 2 Newcastle United
                WIM: Hanson 30' Pell 87'
                NEW: Martinez 45' (PEN) 45'
Right before the halftime whistle the referee made a very questionable decision to call penalty on a "foul" by Ross Worner. Jackson Martinez had just scored a few seconds ago and stepped up to score on the penalty shot as well. 3 minutes before the end, Harry Pell met with a cross from Elliott Hewitt to again force the match to go to a replay.

                AFC Wimbledon 2 - 1 West Ham
                WHU: Jarvis 12'
                WIM: Clayton 38' James 83'
Wimbledon were barely able to get their first league win this match against relegation bound West Ham United.

                Transfer Activity

AFC Wimbledon have completed their first and only signing of the year: 22 year old striker Max Clayton (72). As many of you will recall, Max Clayton played with Wimbledon on loan during the 2013/2014 season. Wimbledon and Crewe Alexandria had reached an agreement on a fee to keep the player permanently but when Wimbledon got the funds to pay it Crewe Alexandria quadrupled the young striker's value and refused to honor the agreement. Max Clayton joins from the League 2 squad for 3,650,000 USD, making him Wimbledon's all time record signing.

Also, Chris Arthur has officially left Wimbledon and joined Blackpool for a fee of 220,000 USD. Arthur was reportedly unhappy with his playing time and wanted to leave.

                      February 2017 - Season 4

                      FA Cup Replay
                      Newcastle United 1 - 2 AFC Wimbledon
                      NEW: Martinez 49'
                      WIM: Gornell 52' Pell 64'
Once again Jackson Martinez scored, making him the player that has scored on Wimbledon the most since Chavez's arrival. Fortunately, he was neutralized for the rest of the match. Wimbledon captain Gornell scored immediately after to keep his team in the match and later on in the match Harry Pell scored from a corner to give the Dons the lead and eventually, the victory.

                      Manchester United 0 - 0 AFC Wimbledon
The Dons traveled to Old Trafford to meet with 2nd place team Manchester United for another draw. Chavez chose not to use the 3-5-2 today, and instead fielded his traditional 4-1-4-1 with Gornell as lone striker. The team played a lot more solid in defense, and definitely could have won the match on several occasions as Terry Gornell hit the post 4 times! The league top scorer, Edinson Cavani, was unable to break his mark and marked his 4th match against the Wombles without scoring (2 with PSG, 2 with MU). Aaron Morris took the LB position while John Egan, who has been unhappy with his playing time, took the RB position behind Hewitt. In the past Chavez has used offensive defenders in those positions but this time he chose to use two natural CBs there, most likely to keep Manchester United at bay. The current club top scorer, James Hanson, was left out of the starting eleven now that Chavez is using only 1 striker on the field. Hanson has already made his unhappiness about this change public to the press.

                      FA Cup
                      AFC Wimbledon 4 - 0 Leeds United
                      WIM: James 11' Egan 42' Harvey 45' James 50'
The Wimbledon "B" team completely dominated Championship side Leeds. With all the doubts around Wimbledon's survival in the Premier League they made it clear that they are a big step above the Championship. For this match, Chavez went back to the 3-5-2 in order to use more strikers. Now that he has changed to a 4-1-4-1 with the primary squad he needs to find a way to accommodate the 5 strikers he has in the squad.

                      Cardiff City 0 - 3 AFC Wimbledon
                      WIM: Pell 23' Baldwin 37' Gornell 59'
Cardiff have lost 3-0 to Wimbledon for the 2nd time in a row this season! The good news is that they won't have to face them again in the league. The bad news, however, is that they will face them in the FA Cup quarter finals next month. I wonder who the money will be on...

                      Press Conference

Q: Hello Mr. Chavez just a few questions for you today. To start with, why have you decided to change back to the 4-1-4-1 formation mid season?

A: "Well I really enjoyed playing with a 3-5-2. I was frequently receiving compliments from fan mail and we were frequently mentioned in the newspaper as a team that played brilliant and entertaining football. But, then I realized something. What's the point of playing a wonderful style of football consistently each week if we're not getting the results we need? We've put in tons of work to make the formation work and we don't have anything to show for it. For this reason we all decided, the staff and players, to go back to the 4-1-4-1 system which we are all familiar with and even though we've only played 2 matches with it we managed to get good results, including a draw at Old Trafford. I would like to return to the 3-5-2, but I think it will have to wait until we get players that will fit better in it."

Q: Where will this change leave your current top scorer James Hanson?

A: "It was a difficult decision but the striker will be Terry Gornell. We all saw it in the match against Chelsea last month, Gornell plays better alone. He becomes a little too humble when he's playing with a partner up front and tends to step aside and give the ball to his teammate instead of shooting himself. When he's the only striker though, he shows no mercy in front of goal. On the other hand Hanson, plays best with a partner. In the 3-5-2 our goals came only from our strikers, so if they were neutralized by the opposition we couldn't score. I noticed the 4-1-4-1 involves everyone in attack so we can play more offensive, while at the same time allowing our wingers to focus only on attack."

Q: You've made yet another signing from League 2: Max Clayton (72 OVR). Why did you decide to sign him rather than a player that has experience in the top flight or at least the championship?

A: "Clayton is a unique case. He should've only been in League 2 for one season, no more. He achieved promotion with us and deserved it just as much as the rest of the team. Unfortunately his previous club Crewe decided to be a little selfish as they had just been relegated, and Clayton was forced to spend 3 seasons and a half in League 2 when clearly he has the talent to play at least in the Championship. Finally Crewe realized that they are far from being promoted to League 1 and are only holding him back and agreed to negotiate with us. We signed him with the 3-5-2 in mind but we'll still find a way to give him minutes even though we changed the formation."

                      WC Qualifiers

                      Sweden 1 - 0 Scotland
                      SWE: Toivonen 38'
Sweden took advantage of Scotland's defensive fragility and took the 3 points. Darren Fletcher made his return to the national team after being injured at the beginning of the qualifiers and was given the captain's armband again. Hanley picked up an injury himself now but will only be out for 5 days.

                      Greece 1 - 4 Scotland
                      GRE: Mitroglou 29'
                      SCO: McCormack 34' Armstrong 39' Saunders 45' Mackay-Steven 64'
Greece also took advantage of Scotland's weak defense, but then made their worst decision and tried to defend their 1 goal lead. Scotland may have a weak defense, but Chavez's men are specialist in attack and made the Greek players pay for it.

I couldn't believe it when we went 2-0 up. City really hurt us when they pair Jovetic with Mandzukic, but this time they used Jovetic with Benzema and our defenders were able to handle them. Mandzukic came in in the second half and had a couple shots on goal, but nothin to worry about. I'm really hoping I can get my first cup trophy here. The only big teams left are Arsenal and Totteham. I'm kinda hoping someone else comes through and defeats them before I have to face them myself lol

Rabbit I feel your pain with the league table! I was very close to smashing my controller but last night I checked if the prices have gone down now that there's new-gen controllers for sale, and guess what they've only gone down $5!! Wtf! You've got some really talented players coming in through the youth academy though so just need to hold on a little longer!

You still have a few months left, but anything higher than 17th should be considered a good job. I never realised how competitive La Liga can be on this game, so you're not doing a bad job to be clear of relegation right now. Bit of lucky should find you in the tail end of the season.

As for having 5 strikers, maybe pawn a few more off for funds? That's what I did at Bristol with my CMs, I had maybe 8-9 of them when I began, so I sold 3-4 straight off the bat. Raised close to a million quid, too.

Finishing 21 points clear of 2nd, the result was never in doubt coming down the last stretch of the season. Q: Congratulations on such a successful season culminating in the league title. What were your expectations for the team heading into this season and how were you able to accomplish so much success when most had you pegged as a relegation candidate?

A: Thank you. It feels great to end the season as champions of League One. We felt for so long that it was ours to take, and we were determined not to falter down the stretch and risk losing it. This was all possible because of the hard work, dedication, the preparation everyone in this club put in week in and week out. The players deserved this title, and I'm glad that I was able to deliver it for them.

Q: We are receiving word that four of your youth academy players will begin training with the senior squad next season. How important of a role will these young players play for you next season?

A: This is a group of players who came in 100% ready to take on the challenge that senior level football will present. I am confident that each one will play a role in the coming season. Each has the potential to go down as a club legend amongst the supporters and make a name for themselves in Morecambe history. Combined with the class of Watson, Bowditch, and Humphreys, our future is looking pretty good right now.

Q: Now that the season is over and the level of competition will be rising, what are your plans for the transfer market in order to prepare for the coming challenge? Many see the influx of youth into the team as a sign that more experienced signings are necessary in order to succeed at this level.

A: I have begun my player evaluation process and we have not narrowed down a specific position we are looking to improve on at this point. I'm not ruling out any moves right now, but I will say that it is a mistake for anyone to doubt the players currently on the squad. Including the young players. I will have a clearer picture of what I want to do with the squad in the coming months.
