Re: How's Your FIFA Career Mode Going?

Please refer to Post # 12042 for the last update I gave on Alcorcon. This is short and sweet.

The following season I won the Treble finally. Smoked everyone in La Liga scoring 100+ goals and clinching the league after 33 weeks. Pimp-slapped anyone who got on my way in Copa Del Rey and pretty much did the same in Champions League except against Olympique Lyon in the final who actually gave me a battle but we were too much for them at the end on a 3-1 victory. After a year of friendlies with Venezuela I head into Copa America in a group with Argentina (the team I left last summer), Mexico and Peru.

Oh, and after finally achieving it all with Alcorcon I bounced and took a job with Fiorentina. Left like

Rabbit!! Of course we still care! I'm really ecstatic to see that you finally won the treble! It was well worth waiting for I'm sure and it looks like you had a monster of a season. Good luck with Fiorentina, how has the CPU left their squad? Be sure to drop an update again. I hope you can manage to do well in the Copa America too!

Lmao! Love the "don't f*ck with me" attitude that came with the treble! Hahaha good stuff man. Glad to see you won the treble and stuffed it down the board's throats after they gave you crazy season objectives and offered you little to no support throughout the career. Good luck with Fiorentina! I hope you run into the monster you built at Alcorcon in the Champions or something. I would love to read about that match! Did you take any of your Alcorcon players over to Italy or are you going to start fresh?

Wasn't the greatest start to December with quite a few draws but it picked it towards the end of the month. Nice business in January, Brown could become a bargain if he develops right. January was a mixed bag, some good wins but a sore loss against Stoke and then a tough one against leaders Oxford. You are still only one point of them though so the title is certainly attainable.

5th is an incredible finish in your first season in the top flight! Locadia did a great job filling Jansen's boots and Schopf had another good season. As you said, not as many goals but still plenty of assists. Your squad is coming together nicely. Some of your youth players growth was crazy! Looking forward to season 3!

Really tough to lose the cup, especially after going one up and then conceding a 89th minute winner. Great run to get to the final though and 2nd in the league more than makes up for it. Next season, you've just got to work on closing the gap between yourself and Bayern. Weidwald had a massive season with 20 clean sheets! Great consistency from him between the sticks. Looking forward to season 3 on this one too!

Chelsea- League 1 to Premier League

First time posting here, but I’ve read threads on here about MM for a while. This idea I got from a post about MM in FIFA 14 or 15, about taking a big club, dropping all their good players, and swapping them down to a lower division and working your way up .

For starters, rather than simply swapping Chelsea with a League 2 team, I swapped Chelsea with a team in the Championship and then swapped them with a team in the League 1. This seemed more fair to me for the teams gifted promotion as they had better budgets than simply throwing a League 2 team into the BPL with high wage players and a low budget.

I chose QPR and Wigan Athletic to get free promotions and a bunch of good players. To fill out my Chelsea roster after letting all players 70+ OVR players, I chose to limit myself to 25+ years old and under 70. The one exception I allowed myself is a created player, Fitzgerald, ST, 18 yrs old, 76 OVR. I ran into a problem getting players from QPR and Wigan so the rest of the roster was filled out with Free Agents, all over 25 years, and OVR’s at 65 or bellow.

            QPR:
            Players In:
            Hazard
            Fabregas
            Costa
            Courtois
            Terry
            Matic
            Oscar
            Pedro
            Cahill
            Azipilicueta
            Willian
            Ramires
            Remy
            Zouma

            Players out:
LB, Paul Konchesky, 67 OVR, 34 yrs
CM, Kori Henry, 68 OVR, 32 yrs
CM, Ben Gladwin, 62 OVR, 23 years,

Gladwin is younger than I wanted but I needed to get more players for Chelsea and QPR is getting much better players.

QPR’s budget is $26.5 Million for transfers and $944,500 for wages. I checked out the other budgets in the BPL and QPR is on the lower end but not too bad. Their $26.5M is higher than 2 BPL teams (Watford and Bournmouth) and only $3M bellow Norwich and West Brom so they should cope pretty well in the BPL with their new players.

            Wigan Athletic:
            Players In:
            Begovic
            Ivanovic
            Falcao
            Djilobodji
            Mikel
            Traoré
            Baba
            Kennedy

            Players Out:
            GK, Richard O’Donnell, 65 OVR, 27 yrs
ST, Craig Davis, 66 OVR, 29 yrs

Wigan’s budget is $6.5M in transfers and $291K for wages. That’s actually a pretty good budget for a Championship team. It’s a higher than Birmingham City, Bristol City, Charlton Athletic, Huddersfield, MK Dons, Preston, Rotherham United and even with Brentford and Ipswish. Wigan should do very well with their new roster and budget in the Championship.

            Free Agents:
LB, Ren Hang, 64 OVR, 26 yrs
CB, Adam Straith, 63 OVR, 24 yrs
RB, Denzil Franco, 59 OVR, 29 yrs
CDM, Tarek Hamed, 65 OVR, 26 yrs
CDM, Mari Holek, 65 OVR, 28 yrs
RW, Joel Sanchez, 65 OVR, 26 yrs
RM, Jan Kopic, 61 OVR, 25 yrs
LM, CK Vinneth, 54 OVR, 27 yrs

These were chosen pretty much at random just to fill out the rest of the roster while not providing much depth or potential for the future. Straith is younger than I wanted, but Chelsea desperately needed a decent CB so he was chosen. Chelsea also has over 7 players out on loan, but I plan on letting them stay that way for the first year. They should prove a nice upgrade come the second season into the Championship, provided this squad can get a promotion.

Chelsea’s final roster before I start stands at 25 players, 4 GKs, 6 defenders, 12 middies, and 3 attackers(2STs and a RW). Not a lot of depth and no cover for my CBs so that’ll be something to target during the season.

            Chelsea: 2.5 Stars
            Att: 76
            Mid: 63
            Def: 61

Aside from the high Attack rating, it’s pretty even with the rest of the League 1 squads.

            Year 1:
Difficulty: World Class, custom sliders (still working on what I like best)
            Half Length: 8 Minutes
            Financial Strictness: Lenient 85%
            Currency: Dollars

Manager: Nick Wolfe (I’m awful at thinking of names), English with the hopes of one day bringing international glory to England.

            Goals:
            Automatic Promotion
Round of 32 in Domestic Cup

We’ll see how this squad does, but I expect the promotion will happen, but I’m not sure we have the depth for much of a run in the cups.

First thing is blow some money on youth scouts. Ended up with Declan Lee, English, 4*/ 5*, and Staphanos Zaimis, Greek, 5*/4*. Lee was sent to England to look for any type of player for 6 months. Zaimis was sent to Scotland to look for Wingers for 3 months. I plan on keeping my scouts in Northern Europe at least until I’ve started European competition and or get a International gig.

Also fired all three GTN scouts and replaced with 5*/5*, 5*/5*, and 4*/5* scouts. Set them to look for promising players under 25, tall/strong/first team quality CBs, and first team quality wingers. Deployed to England, Scotland, and Sweden in keeping with my restrictions.

After blowing that money on scouts and adjusting my financial slider, my budget is now at $65,419,996 for transfers and $300,096 for wages. To keep from making this too easy, I’ve imposed a limit of $6.5M for transfer on myself. That should be enough to secure a decent CB and LM.

As the preseason friendlies approach, here’s my squad at the moment:
            Staring XI:
GK: O’Donnell 65 OVR, 26 yrs (Originally from Wigan)
LB: Konchesky 67 OVR, 34 yrs (Originalliy from QPR)
LCB: Clarke-Salter, 57 OVR, 28 yrs (Originally at Chelsea)
RCB: Straith, 63 OVR, 24 yrs old (Originally a Free Agent)
RB: Aina, 60 OVR, 18 yrs (Originally at Chelsea)
            LM:Vineeth, 54 OVR, 27 yrs (Originally a Free Agent)
LDM: Holek, 65 OVR, 28 yrs (Originally a Free Agent
RDM: Henry, 68 OVR, 32 yrs (Originally from QPR)
RM: Sanchez, 65 OVR, 26 yrs (Originally a Free Agent)
CAM: Palmer, 64 OVR, 18 yrs (Originally at Chelsea)
ST: Morgan, 76 OVR, 18 yrs (Created Player, Originally at Chelsea)

            Subs:
GK: Blackman, 59 OVR, 21 yrs (Originally at Chelsea)
LB: Ben Hang, 64 OVR, 26 yrs (Originally a Free Agent)
CDM: Hamed, 65 OVR, 26 yrs (Originally a Free Agent)
CM: Loftus-Cheek, 63 OVR, 19 yrs (Originally at Chelsea)
CM: Gladwin, 62 OVR, 23 yrs (Originally at QPR)
CAM: Musonda, 61 OVR, 18 yrs (Originally at Chelsea)
RM: Kopic, 61 OVR, 25 yrs (Originally a Free Agent)

            Reserves:
GK: Collins, 56 OVR, 18 yrs (Originally at Chelsea)
GK: Beeney, 52 OVR, 19 yrs (Originally at Chelsea)
RB: Franco, 59 OVR, 29 yrs (Originally a Free Agent)
CDM: Musonda, 56 OR, 21 yrs (Originally at Chelsea)
CM: Colkett, 54 OVR, 18 yrs (Originally at Chelsea)
RM: Kiwomya, 55 OVR, 19 yrs (Originally at Chelsea)
ST: Davis, 66 OVR, 29 yrs (Originally at Chelsea)

One of the GKs has to go since there’s no reason to have 4. A little help from sofifa and Beeney will be transfer listed. Blackman’s got 70 POT, Beeney 66 POT, while Collins is at 65 POT, but Collins is a year younger than Beeney with a higher OVR so Beeney is transfer listed while Collins is loan listed.

Simmed a few days and got my 3rd youth scout, Jamie Davis, English, 5*/4*. He’s sent looking for playmakers in Sweden for 3 months.

Now to transfers, $6.5M is good budget for a 3rd division team so I set out to find a decent LM and a good CB.

            Transfer In:
            LM, Jonathan Ring (65 OVR) - $600k
            CB, Jesper Bjorkman (60 OVR) - $400k

First target was Jonathan Ring from Kalmar FF. He’s a 23 year old 65 OVR LM valued at $650k. Went for $600k as my first bid since the advisor said the deal could happen and I should submit my offer. Kalmar FF accept by bid and he accepted $10K and important first team player for his contract.

Next up was Jesper Bjorkman from Helsingborgs IF. Bjorkman’s a 22 year old 60 OVR CB. Got him for $400k.

            Away at Coventry City:
First game of the season, somewhat hampered by new signing Ring getting hurt in a preseason match and only getting healthy the day before the match. He still started, but that might have been a mistake. Things started off a bit rough, and I had trouble holding possession but I got the first goal of the game with a brilliant strike from Morgan at 16’. He got the ball pretty far from goal, managed to get just outside the box, and got off a brilliant strike into the right post in in for his first goal of the season. Things went downhill then when Straith got a red card for a mistimed slide tackle that the red thought was denying a goal scoring opp even though Bjorkman was literally about even with Straith if a few yards away . Coventry took advantage of the extra man and dominated possession from there, they got their first goal at 33 minutes, from Matthison cutting inside and getting a curling shot past O’Donnell. Then in the 45th, Mathison got another in a similar way, getting inside on Konchesky and firing past O’Donnell . I figured I was heading for a loss but then Morgan got the ball just past midfield, used his speed to slice the defense apart and shot the ball just by the left post to even things at 2-2 just before the break.

Took Ring off at half for Hang since he was gassed and Hang could fill in at CB better than a CDM, also switched Palmer to LM leaving a hole at CAM, but at this point it was pretty much playing for a tie or perhaps a lucky break on the counter to steal the win. After a failed through ball from Coventry my team was off to the races and Morgan got off another great shot but this time the keeper was up for it. The rebound was up the middle and Morgan was about to get it when he was taken down by a defender. Yellow for the defender and a penalty. Morgan put the penalty away to take the lead 3-2 at 52’ and O’Donnell was brilliant to close out the game, especially in the last 15. The defense for the entire game was suspect, especially after Straith got sent off, but I already knew they would be a weak point, but I’m very happy with O’Donnell, glad I took him from Wigan.

Up next is Round 1 of the Capital One Cup at home vs Colchester and hopefully some more transfers as Palmer and Musonda, my two CAMs, have stamina at 54 and 46 respectively and that won’t cut it long term. So I’ll be shopping around for another CAM as the rest of my mids are either RMs, or CMs/CDMs, with only Henry (CM, 60) having the passing stats to play there but he and Holek are my preferred CDM pair since Henry has medium/high WR so he wouldn’t be a very good fit as CAM. Of course, I’m still trying to land another CB as I want to limit Clarke-Salter’s exposure since he’s only rated 58. Sorry for the long post.

Thanks mate. I've played a couple of games of the new season and just having that left footed midfielder (Ashby) has made a huge difference to the side. *spoiler* York have started the season well again

I've done similar with Leeds for a bit of fun in the past using only academy products to begin with. Usually need to add a few to complete the squad but there are usually a few ex-academy kids that didn't quite make it in the lower leagues.
Only thing is there is no room for error in the first season or two.

Thanks man, unfortunately I don't have the time to give the detailed update but yea the squad kicked severe ***, it was awesome. Fiorentina's squad is pretty decent actually with a good mix of youngsters and vets and the board gave me $50-million+ for transfers and $250K+ for wages so I should be able to bring in more talent this summer. I'm gonna try to win Copa America too of course but even after all these seasons of scouting that country the talent is still below the major powerhouses like Argentina/Brazil.

Yeah honestly building a power team like that with limited financial support eventually gets to you, I lasted a while. After I finally won the treble I was like "y'all are on your own, let's see if you can repeat the success without me". It'd be awesome to run into them in Champions but Fiorentina finished 9th this season so I won't be in Europe competitions next season, but I hope Alcorcon is still in the Champions 2 years from now because I definitely intent to be there with Fiorentina. I'm still working on putting together a squad, 1st order of business was to do a complete analysis of the squad as it is and see what's needed. RB is definitely a need so I'm trying to get Alcorcon's backup RB. It may not be a bad idea to get younger at CAM so I may go after Alcorcon's super utility midfielder (brought up from the academy there) as he's mid-80's and should be able to start for me (and has the stamina for it). I don't wanna take apart Alcorcon really.

Re: How's Your FIFA Career Mode Going?

Just after a couple of opinions regarding transfers in my York career.

                    1. Transfer listing players? So far I've only listed the players who demand to leave the club but that has just left me with lots of deadwood on the books that nobody wants to bid for and half a squad that will walk for free at the end of the season. The flipside to that i feel is that it's too easy to move players on by listing them yourself. I want to keep an element of realism to it but not sure if there is a happy medium?

                    2. Player swaps - too easy to consider doing?

                    3. Pre-Contract signings - Obviously i used it to sign Tafazolli but I'm thinking of limiting it to a max of 1 a season.

Chelsea- League 1 to Premier League Year 1

                        Update #1:
My youth scouts came back with their first reports so my Youth Academy is officially up and running. England had mediocre players so no signings, but Scotland produced Duncan MacDonald, 16 yrs, rated 53-71, POT 78-94 so I signed him immediately. Sweden meanwhile got Simon Nystrom, 15 yrs, 42-56, POT 66-90 who I also signed to the academy.

Home vs Colchester (Capital One Cup Rd 1)
                        Spoiler

After two games it’s clear my defense needs a lot more work than I expected. I started looking at more CBs, plus outside backs as neither Konchesky or Aina have done well. I also started looking at another winger, LM or RM doesn’t really matter as neither Ring or Sanchez have impressed. One bright side, I’m happy with my CDMs, and Loftus-Cheek impressed against Colchester as he filled in for the tired Henry who I ran almost to injury against Coventry. By far the best is Morgan who is the only player consistently (4 goals and 1 assist through 2 games) doing well even if he missed some chances against Colchester.

I want to buy 2 CBs, and at least 1 outside back with the $5M I have left over after getting Bjorkman and Ring. I will say that Bjorkman’s done okay, certainly the best of the backline in both games and limited the damage since he’s my LCB.

Home vs Oldham Athletic (FL 1)
                        Spoiler

                        Transfers IN:
                        RM, Anthony Forde (62) – $375k
Not the transfer I was hoping to lock up, but a welcome addition as my wingers are failing miserably and I need more options there.

                        Away vs Swindon (FL 1)
                        Spoiler

                        Summary:
Three games in and Chelsea sit in 8th place with 5 points (1-2-0). That’s only 2 points of tied leaders Crewe Alexandria, Southend United, and Chesterfield.

This is not going the way I’d hoped, but the challenge is nice. I’ll admit it’s really tough knowing that Chelsea have Omeruo (CB 70) and Kalas (RB 71) out on loan. But I’ll stick with my self-imposed challenge for now. Though I really need to bring in better CBs and a new CAM as neither Palmer or Musonda are impressing and both have low stamina so they have to constantly be rotated/subbed off early.

Checked my squad report and got a bit of a surprise, three players at 6.5 or above with most between 6.0 and 6.4. Morgan is no surprise the best player at 7.3. Henry is actually listed at second despite being only at 6.3 but I know he’s really valuable to the team. O’Donnell is at 3 with a form of 6.7 in bright green. The fourth player was a surprise, Hang at 6.7 moved up over Holek. I haven’t given Hang much thought since dumping Konchesky but it’s nice to see he’s working well. The problem defensively is Straith though Bjorkman has had a bad run in the last few games too.

                        Transfers In:
                        LM, Jonathan Ring (65 OVR) - $600k
                        CB, Jesper Bjorkman (60 OVR) - $400k
                        RM, Anthony Forde (62) – $375k

                        Transfers Out:
GK, Bradley Collins – Loan (Yeovil Town)

That’s $1.375M spent out of my set budget of $6.5M so I’ve got money to spend on a good CB and another player, probably an FB or a WMF.

                          My Thought's
It took us a couple of games to get going but I feel that we are finally finding our form from last season. Timo Werner has adapted really well to his new position and has managed 5 goals so far this season and I am interested to see how many he will finish on come the end of the season. Odegaard has also made a good start to the season with 4 assists to his name already and with the added competition from Fischer, I'm sure he will up his game even more. We have started showing that defensive solidarity and have now kept 4 clean sheets in the league and conceded only 7 goals bettered only by Bayern who have conceded only 3 all season. I am pleasantly surprised by how well we have adapted to the Champions League and we currently sit top of the group after 3 wins and now I'm sure the rest of Europe will start taking note of us. The 1-0 victory over PSG has been a highlight of my time in charge and is argubly the best defensive performance I have ever seen in my managerial career. We stopped everything, Jedvaj and Christensen cleared everything, they were putting their bodies on the line and when they did get throughout Weidwald was there top stop them. Everyone was getting back and it was our best team performance under my management.

We invested wisely in the summer and signed some really talented players. Our marquee signing of the summer was Tin Jedvaj from Bayer 04 for a fee of £7,000,000 which is currently our record transfer under the new boss. In Jedvaj we have a young talented defender who can operae at centre back and right back, equally comfortable in both positions. We thought off competition from some big clubs for him and it was a statement of intent from us to the rest of the Bundesliga. He has formed a really good partnership with Andreas Christensen at the moment which is keeping Vestergaard out of the team. Out second summer acquisition was Danish Superstar Viktor Fischer for a fee of £4,500,000 & Daniel Didavi. This was a major coup for us, to have a player of Fischer's ability playing for us will only increase our chances of success for this season. This boy has got it all, he can score, assist, go round players and has really started showing that ability in recent games. It took him a couple of games to get settled but now he is starting to play his way into the starting 11. Our third signing was that of Abdou-Aziz Thiam from AS Monaco for a small £1,250,000 and although bought as one for the future, has really forced his way in to my plans now with a series of good displays in the Champions League aginst Europe's elite teams. He has a big future at this club and will get his chance this season, that is guaranteed. Our final signing was the loan signing of Vaclav Cerny from Real Madrid with the option to make the move permanent at the end of the season for £4,500,000 in the summer. He has showed tremendous ability in the games he has played so far and has gone roud players with such ease. Although a winger, he has been effective throught the middle and has already done enough to convince me to make the move permanent at the end of the season. Still only 20 he has a bright future ahead of him whether it is with us or at Real Madrid. We also has the exciting arrival of Marko Arnautovic from Stoke on a Pre-Contract. A player of Marko's ability shows that we are an appealing option for Europe's top talent and now we just have to keep improving in order to remain in Champions League contention every year. This is an exciting time to be a Werder Bremen fan.

Now onto the bad news, we have been told that Felix Weidwald will not be signing a new contract, no matter what we offer him which is a huge disappointment as he has been an integral part of the success I have had with Bremen. We offered last season's Bundesliga Player of the Year an offer that puts him up there with the club's more elite earners and sadly he rejected the offer. We have a strict wage structure in place at the club so we will not be breaking it for anyone. The offer will remain on the table but if he is yet to sign by January, we may be forced into selling the player.

How's Your FIFA Career Mode Going?

Has anyone gotten the feeling that the youth academy is much stronger this year than before? I just started my youth academy in March (I know it's late, but I wanted to play with the youth graduates that were already on the squad before promoting new ones). The biggest change is no doubt the price for scouts. Scouts are much cheaper to hire now which has its pros and cons. I didn't want to have an overpowered youth system so I hired a 4 star scout. Sent him out to scout for wingers and in his first two reports I already have 5 players with potential over 70. Of course there were some players with lower potential, but I was surprised to see 5 with potential over 70 right off the bat. With that I decided to end the scouting for wingers and I called him back. I am now scouting for physically strong players hoping to get a striker. I must point out that I have very little experience with the youth academy in this year's game, so while I have 5 players with potential over 70 I don't know if perhaps that number decreases and in reality I just have 5 players with 70-75 potential, but my initial thoughts are that high potential players are easier to come by this year. I hope I'm wrong...

I really like how you can use player training on players that are still in the academy. And I especially like that this year you get to see their overalls right away without having to take chances. I haven't used any trainings on the youth players yet, but I still think it's a nice feature.

I'm haven't had very good luck with the YA actually. Bought 3 scouts at 5*/5*, 4*/5*, and 5*/4*. Two reports from each and I only have 2 players with potential at 70+ with a lot of really low players who's max potential was around 75 or lower. Two scouts were looking for any players, but one was for playmakers and there wasn't much difference in their reports, though one came back with higher avg potential but only one at 90+ max POT. I will say that my scouts were in England, Scotland, and Sweden so perhaps that had something to do with the low ratings.

Well, I sold most of my youth players in Fifa 15. They always come out of the academy with crappy pace or stamina, so I just made profit on them.

I'm still selling some of my youth players in Fifa 16, but not even remotely close to how it was. For instance, I've got a goalkeeper who's just 18 years old, and already on 76. He has 90+ potential as well. I also got a CDM who's 19 years old, and he's 82 already. Already got 30m+ offers for him.

So yeah, the Youth Academy does work way better this year. I get players out of there with decent stamina AND pace! And logical stats as well. Wingers and strikers with 4* skills or weak foot, and defenders whom are strong and not really technical.

The only thing that annoys me with the youth academy this year is the fact that whenever I send my scouts out, they bring reports of players whom are for instance 149 cm tall. Why would I want a centerback who is that small? Or a goalkeeper who is just 170 cm tall? Weird.
