What difficulty are you on in Witcher? The first 10 levels are pretty tough if you go any higher than Story and Sword, but once you get Geralt some decent gear and boost a few skills, you can slice through a lot of mobs even on Death March.
I would suggest you go through White Orchard at leisure. Check out every Point of Interest, do every side quest, and kill every mob you can find. You should be halfway through level 4 by the time you
Once you get to
Make sure the first skills you upgrade are
Block. Dodge. Roll. Parry. Generally avoid getting hit as much as possible. Try to split mobs up and take enemies on one at a time. Eliminate ranged attackers in a mob before dealing with melee enemies. Save often. Use the alternate controls. Be careful about deviating from the path of the main story until at least level 12.
True, no two people will have the same taste in games. TLOU was still a very good game. As for Tomb Raider, I promise you'll love every minute of it. I've been playing for about 6 hours and have barely got into the game. There's tons to explore. It feels like a real exploration game, rather than just killing enemies and making it through levels. And there's a lot of history in the game. This could possibly be better then Witcher 3, I think.
