Re: How's Your FIFA 14 Career Mode Going?

Hey guys, it's been a while since I've had the time to get some games in, let alone log in and share my updates. I've been really busy with work and some medical stuff, but now that things have blown over I'm ready to get back to gaming.

I've spent the last couple of weeks going through my first season with Villarreal. I've not done a career in La Liga since FIFA 12, barring half a season with Atletico Madrid in FIFA 13. Originally, I was going to go with Athletic Bilbao as they're one of the country's most successful clubs, but their player policy wouldn't let me buy a lot of guys, and that wasn't what I wanted. I went with Villarreal because of their ability to overachieve, their excellent kits, and the fact that they've never won a major trophy.

I blocked the first transfer window and invested in a 5/5 scout from Croatia, sending him around Spain in search of technically gifted players. My season got off to a decent start with three straight wins, but I hit a rough patch in October where I lost five in a row. That's when I moved from 4-4-2 to 5ATB, usually 5-2-1-2. That helped me make it to January in the top half of the table, in ninth with 24 points. I eventually lost to Valencia in the cup that month.

At this point, I decided to spice things up with a financial takeover. With my new funds, I bought a 4/5 Spanish scout and got him to scour Netherlands for playmakers. Matteo Mussachio refused an extension to his expiring contract, so I straight-swapped him for Rodrigo Caio of Sao Paulo. Come deadline day, I still needed a defensive midfielder and another forward, so I sprung for West Brom's Claudio Yacob (3.8 million euros) and Kamil Grosicki from CSKA Moscow (Jeremy Perbet + 3 million euros). I also got Serge Gnabry and Ryo Miyaichi on loan from Arsenal, with the option to buy Ryo for a million euros in the summer.

I finished the season well as Grosicki formed an excellent partnership with Uche, with dos Santos in the hole behind them. The Pole scored 8 times in 16 league games to help me finish in tenth place, just shy of 50 points. My top scorer was Javi Aquino, a RM, who ended up with 11 goals in 34 outings before pulling his quad during the run-in. More importantly, I ended up with a strong youth academy -- two or three wide midfielders, a centre back, a central midfielder, two attacking midfielders, and a left back all with 85+ potential!

I decided to let go of every player whose contract was expiring except for two: backup goalkeeper Juan Carlos and right back Mario Gaspar both got extensions. I also promoted some youth players: Spanish RM Sebastian Varela and CB Pablo Barrios, and Dutch CAM Jeroen Broerse all have 88+ potential. I also released Gino John, a poor youth player I promoted during an injury crisis but who would never be good enough for the first team. I opted to sign Miyaichi, but he wanted too much money so I eventually declined. Also, I was pleasantly surprised to see that Jonathan de Guzman was back from loan at Swansea.

Carrying over my takeover funds and league prize money, the new board (it's a financial takeover and I like to role play) decided to keep backing me with a transfer budget of 52 million euros, and 250k in wages. The first thing I did was put my deadwood up for sale, or for loan if they had expiring contracts. I also put Moi Gomez up for loan, but he's a long-term prospect. My Brazilian CB Gabriel had been itching for a raise since March, but I had to wait until the summer when he had 4 years left on his existing contract.

With that wrapped up, I went hunting. Sergio Asenjo went back to Atletico (thank god), so I snapped up Rui Patricio from Sporting CP for a cool 6 million euros and 50k per week. I needed a better right back, so I offered Celta Vigo 5 million plus RB Aleksandr Pantic for Hugo Mallo, which they took. Next up was a centre back, preferably Spanish. I had enjoyed playing with Inigo Martinez at Nottingham Forest, so I enquired about him at Real Sociedad. They wanted 21 million, and I offered 12.5. They replied that they had set a price of 17 million, and I offered 16. A few days later, he was mine on a 45k/week salary.

Since I had chosen to play 4-2-2-2, I needed another striker. Loic Remy was just what I wanted, and I managed to agree a deal worth 12 million with newly-promoted QPR and lure Remy on a 60k/week contract. Tomas Pina wasn't impressing me, so I offered him plus 3 million to Feyenoord for Jordie Clasie, who joined on 30k/week as my third-choice central midfielder behind Bruno and Yacob.

This is my squad the day of the first friendly against Palermo, so I still have time to make additions and changes.

Goalkeepers: Rui Patricio, Juan Carlos, Aitor - total 3

Defenders: Hugo Mallo, Gabriel, Inigo Martinez, Bojan Jokic, Rodrigo Caio, Mario Gaspar, Pablo Barrios (academy) - total: 7

Midfielders: Claudio Yacob, Bruno, Jordie Clasie, Jonathan de Guzman, Moi Gomez, Javi Aquino, Jeroen Broerse (academy), Sebastian Varela (academy) - total: 8

Attackers: Loic Remy, Kamil Grosicki, Giovani dos Santos, Ike Uche - total: 4

By moving a couple of deadwood players on loan and transfer, I freed up about 50-60k in wages. This means I still have plenty to upgrade Ike Uche, who's not all that good and will only get worse now he's hit 30. Since I have two pacey strikers in Grosicki and Remy (and dos Santos can play there as well), I want to get someone who's more along the lines of Diego Costa (aggressive, loads of stamina, high work rate, good finishing) but have no clue who. Suggestions that are still (semi) realistic?

Re: How's Your FIFA 14 Career Mode Going?

      Team: FC Seoul (3 Star)
      League: K-League
Difficulty: Professional, 6 Min Halfs, 20% man, 80% Sim
      Objective: Become Playoff Champion
      Record: 11/10/3 5th place in K-League Standings

Because the K-League starts in February like the MLS, the first transfer window is months away in July. We started the season poorly, but in the transfer window when I began to bring in some players on the cheap, (9M Transfer/ 50K wages) we went 3/1/0.

      Players I brought in:

      Sam Byram (5M): 5 APP, 3 CS, 6.90 AVG

      Emmanuel Frimpong (Swap for Escudero): 4 APP, 1 G, 1 A, 2 CS, 7.30 AVG

Spas Delev( FA Signing, 10K): No APP yet, but he's going to be my starting RM with that 5 star weak foot

      Gyasi Zardes (1.6M): 5 APP, 5 G, 3 CS, 7.30 AVG

Deshorn Brown (Swap for Rafael): 5 APP, 1 G, 1 CS, 6.60 AVG

Re: How's Your FIFA 14 Career Mode Going?

3rd season Everton January Transfer Window just ended, and, aside from Pogba being injured for 3 months with a broken ankle, everything seems to be going great. Top of the table, still in Champions League, still in FA Cup. For the January Transfer Window I really didn't know what to do so I bought a load of half-decent free agents to stock up my reserves. Deadline day was mad and I bought most of my big signings then.

        Players In:
        loada free agents
Good Goalie I can't remember the name of, but 75 rated at 22, so fits nicely as backup goalie (1m + Joel)
        Malanda (8.5m + Oviedo)
        Shaw (4m)

        Players Out:
        Pienaar (1m)
        Joel (swap)
        Oviedo (swap)

Re: How's Your FIFA 14 Career Mode Going?

Recently went back to my Crawley Town career mode save after a few months looking for a new challenge. I'm in 2019 and have an unreal squad. The problem I face is that most of the young, decent players are regents so I cannot see their overall. I am on the fence as to whether this is a good or bad thing seeing as the global scouting network feature is poop.

Anyways here's my team for anyone interested. I play on Orions sliders/Semi/Legendary/10 minutes

          Courtois 88

          Clyne 82
          Dier 84
          Machuca (regen) 83
          Shaw 85

          Eriksen 86
          Suso 87
Peluso (youth product) 82 - potential of 90-94

          Iturbe 86
          Martial 84
          Lucas 89

Got a strong bench too, with the majority of it being young regens or made up players. Be interesting to see what you all think of my Crawley team! Didn't cheat in getting up in any way, just took advantage of the somewhat flawed per-contract option come January.

Currently chasing back to back league title and my first champions league winners trophy after getting eliminated by Bayern last season in the quarters :/

Re: How's Your FIFA 14 Career Mode Going?

wish I could be posting more in this thread, but haven't had a ton of time to sit and type a good post lol. but here it is!

            Bayern Munich!!!!

I'm now in the 4th season with my beloved Bavarians. This career mode's main objective is to defend as many titles as possible, without buying up every single decent player (mostly raising from youth team).

For the previous three years, I have successfully defended my treble (4 straight trebles lol). I only have bought a few players (Draxler, Lewandowski, and Ulrich), the rest are still on the team from the original line up, with a few deadwood players sold off + Mandzukic (wanted to leave).

I'm in October of 2016, and this season seems like the winds are changing...in the Bundesliga at least. Although I am still the top dog (34 points after 12 games, 8 point lead), The competition is much fiercer. I'll give a rundown of the top few teams here.

            Bayern Munich:

            Starting XI: Neuer (89); Lahm (82), Boateng (86), Badstuber (85), Alaba (88); Kroos (89), Muller (89), Draxler (86), Gotze (91), Bruma (85); Lewandowski (89)

            BVB Dortmund:

Estimated XI: Weidenfeller; Piszczek, Sokratis, Sarr, Schmelzer; Bender, Gundogan, Reus, Mkhitaryan, Aubameyang; Higuain

            other notable players: Bony, Bakkali

            Vfl Wolfsburg:

Estimated XI: Leno; Fagner, Rodriguez, Felipe, Klose; Malanda, Pilar, Caliguiri, De Bruyne; Michu, Lacine Traore

            Schalke:

Estimated XI: Adler; Papadopoulos, Howedes, Fuchs, Uchida; Hoger, Neustadter, Thiago, Chali, Farfan; Pato

so as shown, the teams are definitely more balanced now. Even though it seems like they are still mostly the same, a lot of the younger players have grown leaps and bounds to become first team players.

My Champions League group consists of Liverpool, Porto, and Club Brugge. Going to be advancing quite easily.

I have a number of youth prospects that I expect to be ready to jump into first team action by next year. Here are a few I find noteworthy that are already signed to the senior team:

            Dausch - 18 y.o 71 overall CAM 1.3 mil worth
            Miller - 19 y.o 74 overall CDM 2.1 mil worth
            Schet - 19 y.o 70 overall CAM 1.4 mil worth
Quaner - 17 y.o 64 overall GK 200k worth (hopefully he is to be the heir to my current keeper, Neuer, on both the club and the national team)

            will update more soon!

Re: How's Your FIFA 14 Career Mode Going?

Started a career with Inter in the hopes of rebuilding the squad and it was a rather large rebuild job! But that's what career mode is all about to me, you can make it whatever you want and it doesn't have to be realistic at all! So to start of we had $39.5 Million dollars and the board wanted my to reach the semifinal of Coppa Italia and win the league!! That's right win the league!!!!! I'd think they would be content with Champions League football after no European league at all this year but no! But in reality I set personal goals to make the final of the cup and qualify for Champions Cup (top 3). I will list my transfers and after explain the methods a bit.
                Departures-
                CDM Kuzmanovic $7.5 M (Villarreal)
                CB Chivu $1.3 M (Freiburg)
ST Palacio $17.5 M (Atletico Madrid)
                GK Handanovic $17 M (Everton)
                CDM Cambiasso $1.3 M (Torino)
                CM Hernanes $ 24.5 M (Fiorentina)
                Bought-
GK Kevin Trapp $11 M (Frankfurt)
RB Mattia De Sciglio $14.5 M (AC Milan)
LM Giacomo Bonaventura $7.1 M + Nagatomo (Atalanta)
RM Joel Campbell $10 M + Jonathan (Olympiakos)
CAM Angel Correa $4 M + Botta (San Lorenzo)
ST Michy Batshuayi $18 M (Standard Liege)
LW Viktor Fischer $10 M (Ajax)
CB Schar $10 M (FC Basel)
CDM Marco Verratti $18.5 M (PSG)
CB Serge Aurier $8.5 M + Campagnaro (Toulouse)

As you can see I sold some total dead wood from the club. Wasn't really planning on selling Kuzmanovic but it was a great offer. I got a combined $58 M for me top 3 players (Palacio, Hernanes, Handanovic) which was great because I was trying to maximize returns for them. The first 8 signings happened pretty early but the last 2 were fairly late. I used the sale of Hernanes to fund the purchase of Verratti and on the final day they finally let me sell Campagnaro (yay ). I also tried a last ditch attempt on the final day to acquire Emanuel Insua or Davide Santon at LB but it didn't work out. The formation I play is 4-2-3-1 wide without Guarin in the lineup and 4-1-4-1 with him in it because he is definitely not a defensive mid! I realize the De Sciglio transfer was highly unrealistic but oh well. I still have Walter Samuel, Javier Zanetti, and Diego Milito but I just don't see myself using them very often. Thanks for reading this whole long thing!

Re: How's Your FIFA 14 Career Mode Going?

wow. what a game. I just played BVB Dortmund (as Bayern for my career mode) at the Signal Iduna Park. It was rather uneventful at halftime, both sides with a couple decent chances, but no goals. Shortly after the kickoff, Bruma had a blistering run down the left wing and looped a cross into Lewandowski who calmly headed it in (48'). Deadlock broken. However, BVB were not so quick to roll over, with Marco Reus releasing a howler from about 30 yards out to even it up (52'). This is when I turned the pressure up. Two quick goals from Gotze (of course haha) brought us up 3-1 at the 70th minute. Not to be undone, BVB responded with a goal from Higuain. A beautiful curling shot right past the outstretched Neuer (77'). Dortmund were quick to up the pressure. Mkhitaryan was on a run down the right flank and was fouled in the box by Badstuber (yellow card only). He cooly slipped the ball into the net to level the score again (85'). Both teams were fighting aggressively to get the go ahead goal. Eventually, Kroos managed to pickpocket Bender and smash home a long range beauty from about 40 yards, right past Weidenfeller (90'+2). I managed to take the home and away series from Dortmund this season, collecting all 6 points.

It is now February 1st. Two title rivals were severely weakened on deadline day. Schalke lost their main goal scorer, Pato, to Roma for 21.5 mil. Dortmund lost Mkhitaryan to Real Madrid for 21 mil. BVB definitely lost out on this deal. He was the leading scorer in the league last season, and was second in the league in goals with 12. Neither team signed a replacement.

For Bayern, I had a relatively quiet transfer window. I straight swapped Dante to Hannover 96 for Avevor (82 overall, 24 y.o. Liked how he has been playing for me on the national team). It was sad to see Dante go, but he was declining quickly (82 overall). Avevor seemed like a good fit, as it was essentially a straight swap in skills, just got a younger player out of the deal. He is a CB/RB. The other main reason I signed him was to provide cover for the aging Lahm. Its quite sad to me to see Lahm declining (now at an 81). However, I will never sell him. He will retire on my team, as he should.

I am currently dealing with a bit of an injury crisis. Both Boateng and Badstuber are out for two months (injuries happened almost a day apart). My central defense is extremely weak now, with only Kirchoff and Avevor to hold it down. I'm hoping that my offense will be more than enough to cover any and all defensive mishaps. It will be quite a shock if I manage to go undefeated again this season....

I still hold the Bundesliga lead by 12 points (20-3-0). I qualified for the knockout phases of the Champions Cup (surprise surprise), and will play Manchester City in the Round of 16.

This summer, I plan on delving into the transfer market and cutting Ribery/Robben loose. Both their replacements are more than ready and have actually forced their way on to the team and made Ribery/Robben bench players. I have a crowded midfield and lots of people need playing time. I have some youth players that I want to bring up into the first team as well. I also plan on finding a good, young German defender (policy is to buy mostly German players, which keeps it realistic and strengthens the national team).

Thats all for now! Updating more later!

Need help, I want to rebuild a team with youth scouts, I want a team with a very solid transfer budget and IS NOT in shape for a cup finish. I like to play in MLS but I feel like there is so much more in other countries. I did a CM with AC Milan and had fun for a little but its not really challenging, any help? But since I live in the U.S., I prefer to play in the MLS.

So my final question for CM freaks like me, is there a MLS team that meets my requirements, if not, can you list other clubs that do meet requirements of mine?

Also, I play professional-6 minutes and it seems fine to play with for me on Xbox 360

Also, I play professional-6 minutes and it seems fine to play with for me on Xbox 360.

I will continue to update the forum once i've selected a team with some help from my fellow CM-ers!

hate to break it to you, but MLS is pretty limited… I'd recommend giving other leagues a go. One team that might be fun is Schalke 04 from the Bundesliga. They don't have a HUGE budget (20 million sterling I think), but they have a decent team to work with that has all sorts of young players (Meyer, Draxler, Fahrmann) to develop. Its a good league too, with competition from Bayern and BVB Dortmund. You also get Champions/Europa League play if you qualify. In my Bundesliga careers, I usually see them finish anywhere from 2nd down to 8th.

You could also go with Manchester United…. lol they probably won't win any trophies IRL, so the game might be fun. They have a decent budget too.

Re: How's Your FIFA 14 Career Mode Going?

I started as Manchester City manager.

I'm now in the start of the second season. I became manager for Turkey in the first season

                                Competitions:

                                City:
I won all the competitions last season and started great in the second season. I have won the Challenge Cup and the Copa Europe in the second season until now. Last season I scored over 100 goals in the Barclays Premier League and was only two points from 100 points.

                                Turkey:
I simmed a lot of the friendlies. But when the World Cup 2014 started I played all the matches. I won the FIFA World Cup in 2014 in a final against Germany.

                                Transfers:

                                First season:
                                Spend almost the whole budget.

                                Sold:
Dzeko to Tottenham, Milner to Liverpool, Lescott to West Brom and Zabaleta to Napoli.

                                Bought:
Balotelli (Great goal machine), Walcott (Just to have a replacement for Jesus Navas/ Now Walcott plays better than him), Varane (Plays great and scores on many corner kicks), Shaw (Great potential / Switched between him and Clichy, but he became better than Clichy and I choosed to let him be as a regular man in the starting 11) and Di Sciglio (Started as a reserve and sub / Now he plays all games in the starting 11 as a RB. He plays so far great in the second season)

                                Second season:
I sold a lot of players because some players became unhappy not to playing.

                                Sold:
Clichy to Sevilla, Negredo to Bayern Munich, Richards to Arsenal, Kolarov on loan to Dortmund and Javi García to Marseille

                                Bought:
Özil (He have played a few matches and didn't started as good as I thought/ But in the last 3 games he played great) and Alberto Moreno (Bought as a sub. / Switched between him and Shaw. He didn't started so good / Shaw plays better than him so far)

My starting 11 right now (I'm trying to switch between some of my subs and some players in the starting 11 match after match):

                                4-2-3-1

                                Hart

                                Di Sciglio--Kompany--Varane--Shaw

                                Yaya Touré--Özil

                                Walcott--Balotelli--David Silva

                                Agüero

                                Subs:

                                Pantilimon
Nastasic (Some times I replace him with Rekik)
                                Moreno
                                Navas
                                Fernandinho
                                Nasri
                                Jovetic

                                I will update soon.
