not at all. In fact, if you can adjust tactics accordingly to different teams, that would make you an even better manager. The ability to recognize your opponent's strategy and then have your team shape themselves to that is a good skill. So I wouldn't have any qualms about it.

IRL, teams tend to have certain "go-to" strategies that define who they are. Just like Germany have a ridiculous offense and will try to win on goals alone. Spain try to pass you to death. England tries to get to a shoot out just so they can miss. France stages a mutiny. So you probably have a signature style, but don't worry about deviating to defeat an opponent.

Re: How's Your FIFA 14 Career Mode Going?

First post here. I've just finished my first season as manager of Celtic, where I have placed them in the FL Championship. I finished second in the table, with 101 points, to QPR, who somehow managed 110 points. We reached the QF of the F.A. Cup, narrowly losing 4-3 aggregate to a strong Liverpool side. Baldé destroyed the league with 25 goals. We were automatically promoted and are about to begin the summer transfer window. Here is my starting XI going into the new campaign:

      Custom 4-4-2
      GK:Forster [79]

      RB:Matthews [75]---CBier [77]---CB:van Dijk [75]---LBavies [71]

      RM:Commons [74]---CM:Mulgrew [74]---CM:Ward-Prowse [71]---LM:Boerrigter [72]

      ST:Stokes [74]---ST:Baldé [72]

      Bench: Forrest [74], Samaras [73], Brown [74], Chalobah [73], Watt [68], Ambrose [71], Lustig [74]

I signed Dier, Davies, Schrijvers, Ward-Prowse and Berahino in the summer window of 2013. Chalobah was my lone signing of the winter window if I remember correctly. I'm looking to strengthen the wingers, most likely going to sell on Samaras. I signed Shaun Hutchinson on a pre-contract, so he will be arriving in July 2014. Lustig is unhappy so he may be on his way out. Let me know any suggestions on where I can strengthen the squad. I would like to play more total football than the hoofing it up to Baldé that I did last season. Sorry for the long first post!

Also, Inaki WIlliams is pretty good for me. Big, good pace, strong, and has a powerful shot. Aduriz starts to decline because of age so I'm grooming Inaki to take his place.

Didn't know El Pipita was of Basque decent (looks like his father has Basque roots somewhere). Hopefully I'll have enough funds to make a purchase next year.
Your story is great, one of the ones I actually looked at before starting my career with them :P

I've already started investing which will be shown in my next update, most of my funds next season will be going into youth development since I'm pretty happy with my squad. Thanks for the suggestion on Williams, I'll keep a close eye on him.

Does anyone have any ideas for a career mode? In general just the most enjoyable teams you've played with.
I'm looking for a team with depth in squad and some money to spend, not necessarily loads though. I would love to play in Europe so if anyone has any suggestions of europa league/champions league sides to be..disregarding your top top teams I.e Bayern, Madrid, barca etc...
Alternatively I would like to start a career in npower championship or league 1. Let me know if you have any suggestions.
            Cheers!

I'll suggest you start with the team you support. It works always. For teams in the CL you could start with Dortmund or Arsenal... Liverpool are a great choice too. And ofcourse you could try using Atletico Madrid...

For a lower league side I'll suggest Leicester City and Reading. Also Bradford could be interesting. Also, you could put Glasgow Rangers in League 1 or 2 and get them to the Champions League. The choice is yours.

For my Hertha BSC career... I'm still mad ad the chief executives. I can't do anything about them sadly. I'm trying to bring in Hajrovic and Jese from Galatasaray and Real Madrid. The thing that really pisses me off is that Jese's worth is 4.5 million but they want 9 for him.

Only thing I can suggest is maybe getting rid of one of the left midfielders and buying a right midfielder to help with the rotation of shaqiri (unless you already do that with the players you have). Don't really know many players in that role, but Lucas from PSG has always been a player with high potential.

Other than that the squad looks good, just assess your team when playing games. If certain players are struggling or not playing like you would like them to, decide if you want to cash in for a different player or deepen the squad to have more options. You have that luxury now with the funds at your disposal. Good luck!

                  Athletic Bilbao Update

Just finished all my pre-season games and I am now fully warmed up for the first competitive game of the season! (only pre-season will be covered in this post.) Not the flashiest of starts, but it could have been a lot worse. Here it goes.

                  Pre-season results:

                  Bilbao vs Torino 3-3 (D)
Manchester city vs Bilbao 1-2 (W)
                  Bilbao vs Sampdoria 1-0 (W)

First game was probably the best one, but also a bit disappointing and frustrating as we let a 3-1 lead slip in the second half. I noticed in all of the games that the team struggled to deal with constant pressure from the opposition, maybe a change in tactics needed but also avoiding cheap turnovers in possession when there is an easier passing option.

In regards to the players, most of them hit their form early on with players like Benat and Aduriz showing their experience and hunger to get going above the rest of the squad. The only real disappointment was new signing Zurutuza, struggling to get into the game every time he was on the pitch and not providing anything for the team.

Overall though, I feel like the positive outweighed the negatives, better passing and movement was definitely needed but it gave me something to work on for the upcoming competitive games. I'm also hoping some players pick up their game individually for the start of the season.

Note: I did say I would also cover the first league game of the season in my previous post, but I figured it would be better to give an update at the end of each month (4-5 games). So my next update will be very soon, hope this is good so far.

Re: How's Your FIFA 14 Career Mode Going?

so i'm in january year 2 of my hamburg career. finished 4th last year in a simmed year. knocked out of group stages of the champ league by Real and CSKA. 2nd currently in the bundesliga. Rincon wanted out, i recalled Arslan for depth but Steinmann (20) has been playing lights out so he's the first choice backuup there. i really don't have a true defensive mid backup like Rincon was but oh well.

Adler has requested to leave too, which sucks, as he has even surpassed Neuer. but i should be able to get 25 million for him so I'll probably pick up Ter Stegen. for now:

                    Adler

                    Diekmeier. Westermann. Dragovic. Schultz.

                    Bartra. Badelj.

                    Lam. Van der Vaart. Aogo.

                    Lasogga.

midfield has been superb. they compliment one another perfectly. we have conceded the least goals in the league. Beister is out injured.

                    bench
CB jonathon tah (18) picked up an injury early in the season, but is a big part of my plans
LB Jansen (along with Aogo, Schultz, Lam; can play anywhere)
CM Steinmann (20) progressing nicely. has forced his way into my plans
Winger Cheryshev just signed from Real. probably won't feature much
CM Arslan(24)- wasn't progressing despite playing some at mainz. maybe he's finished, maybe not.
Winger- Djordjevic (20) just bought from russia. big plans for this guy, will likely cause Cheryshev to be shipped out soon
ST Zoua(23) not sure if he'll continue to progress, still he's a solid asset

                    Youth Academy Products:
GK Jonas Kohler (16) is my next best keeper after Adler
CB/RB Akpoguma (16) very promising player
CB/RB/LB Andreas Bell (17) see above
CF- van Overbeek (17) 60 overall. has 'showing great potential'. didn't have this before.
CF- Patrick Klonz (17) 67 overall. has good skills for a striker but has Low/Low workrate and only 2* skill foot. probably won't play much at least for a couple years.

Akpoguma is listed as RB but is 6'2 without much skill going forward. Bell is listed as a LB but but is 6'1 with INT- 83 Aggr-80 Marking-84 Stand Tackle-79 Slide-83. wow. 73 ovr. Akpoguma 67 overall. Kohler 63.

                    On their way out:
                    ST Artjoms Rudnevs
                    Winger Ivo Ilicevic

                    Top of the table:
                    Dortmund - 57 undefeated
                    Hamburg - 44
                    Wolfsburg - 42
                    Bayern - 37
                    Schalke - 36
                    Bayer - 36
                    Frankfurt - 29
                    Gladbach - 28
                    Mainz - 28

                    21 games into the season.

                        Team: Orlando City (3 Star)
                        League: MLS
Difficulty: Goniras Sliders, Legendary, 15 Min Halfs, All Man, No Sim
                        Objective: Reach Playoff Semi Final
Record: 25W-8D-13L Club Record, 2W-3D-1L International Record

Here is a quick backdrop. Added 18 teams from MLS to Chile League, kept Chivas & San Jose in MLS, added Orlando City to Chile.

Added the top Chili teams into the Columbian league, replacing lower level sides to MLS.

Wanted to Create the best set up for the South American Champions Cup and include MLS sides.

3 teams from MLS, 3 from Columbia, 4 from Brasil, 4 from Argentina, 2 from Mexico

Orlando City Loses To NY Red Bulls In Clausura Finals
After beating RSL in two legs 4-2, and beating Columbus in two legs 2-2, we met the New York City Red Bulls in the finals, and for some reason, we were no match for them over the 2 legs. We lost 4-2.

So its looks like Orlando City, Red Bulls & LA Galaxy have qualified for the South American Champions League.

                        Awards & Trophies

As a team we won both the Apertura & Clausura regular season titles
As a team we also won the Apertura Championship, our only trophy.
Winning the Apertura final qualified us for the South American Champions League.

                        Transfers Getting Ready For 2014
We were awarded almost 19m in transfer budget, and a big chunk of wage.... My goals for 2014 are to win the South American Champions League and then look for a job in Europe, so I went all in this market, getting older players who I know they know how to win.

                        JOINING THE CLUB:
                        Drogba for 3.8M, 60K Wage
                        Landon Donovan 3M, 70k Wage
                        Ronaldinho 5M, 70k Wage

I tried soo hard to get Pirlo, but the guy wouldnt accept a 150k wage, so screw him.

                        DEPARTED THE CLUB
Valentino CB to Ado Den Haag 325k
                        Braun CM to ODD 100k
                        Woszczynski GK to Cambur 210k

                        Objective
The board wants another playoff Championship.

Im EXCITED having built this team up from a 2 star team to a team that I hope can win the South American Champions League and Dominate the MLS

                          Cheers!
The only big team I've ever managed in any of the FIFAs is Chelsea, but that's because I've been a Blue for close to 15 years. But in FIFA 14, I haven't even taken them past October 2013!

What I like to do is go for a team with either a respectable budget and a couple of good/high potential players, or a team with a mediocre budget but a superstar I can sell to fund some signings. An example of the first would be Bayer 04, who have about 13 million euros to begin with and some excellent talent across the board. An example of the second would be Aston Villa, where you could use Benteke for the first season, during which time you score 15-20 goals with him and then sell him on to a big club for 30+ million.

Every year, I also identify three teams with rich sporting cultures yet poor budgets. These are the ones I spend my financial takeovers on, and they often last anywhere from three to nine seasons. Villarreal is the third and final one I'm doing this year.

A couple of ideas off the top of my head, some of which I've done:

                          - Use an underachieving team to break the dominance of a domestic league: win the Bundesliga with Bayer/Schalke or La Liga with Valencia/Sociedad

                          - Restore a former titan to glory: Internazionale, Milan, Everton, Athletic de Bilbao, Hamburg, Lyon, Ajax

                          - Create the next superclub: use financial takeover on a semi-wealthy club like Wolfsburg or Marseille

                          - Geographic correlation: use an underachieving club located in a major city (pop. > 500k) with high commercial potential, i.e. Hertha BSC (Berlin), Toulouse, Feyenoord (Rotterdam)

                          - Another thing you may want to do is take a lucrative team from 'Rest of World' and place them in an established European league, ideally the closest one geographically. Popular ones are Celtic/Rangers into the Championship or FL 2, Galatasaray into Bundesliga/2 Bundesliga, PAOK/Olympiakos into Serie A/B

                          - Try a South/North American career. They aren't as glamorous, but you may like them. Good ones are Colo Colo (Chile), Boca Juniors, River Plate, San Lorenzo (Argentina), and any of the Liga MX (Mexico) or MLS (USA) teams.

                            Ravel Morrison (22 y/o, 81 OVR)
                            Jesse Lingard (22 y/o, 73 OVR)

                            Right Midfielders:

                            Left Midfielders:

                            Strikers:

                            Wayne Rooney (29 y/o, 88 OVR)
                            Federico Macheda ( 23 y/o, 73 OVR)
                            Angelo Henriquez (21 y/o, 76 OVR)
                            Morata (22 y/o, 78 OVR)

                            I run a 4-2-3-1
I would get a proven backup ST. If Rooney goes down you're going to be forced to play some young unproven kids although you could always throw Ronaldo up there and not miss a beat.

Glad to see the 4-3-2-1 in action! I find it creates a ton of chances, but like any custom formation you've got to use it for a good 5-8 games before your team adapts to it. Glad to see the updates coming on regularly.
