Sky Sports caught up with the Rangers manager after his European defeat.
Q: After qualifying from the group stage, how did you feel your side did against Dortmund?
A: Well, first it was a really unkind draw for us. All the lads were really down after they had seen who we were drawn against. Dortmund are a great club, and they proved it against us.
Q: Did you feel your club under-performed?
A: Did we under-perform? No. Did we get outplayed? Yes. Like I previously said, Dortmund simply outclassed us at home and on the road. Yes getting one goal in the first leg was great, and we tried to us that momentum to carry through, but that did not happen. I am still proud of the lads as we did get pass the group stage, which was a big accomplishment for us this season.
Q: Losing to your biggest rivals, Celtic, three times out of four this season, do you feel that this could be disheartening for the supporters?
A: Celtic are a big club, and it just happens to be our biggest rival. Yes, it hurts the lads that we couldn't beat them the three times. We also know what those matches mean to the supporters. But we are a growing club, and we need to be focused on the future, and not the past. We will still challenge them for the League Title, I guarantee it.
Man painful defeats with Dortmund and Celtic. I know Dortmund meant elimination from Europe, but a match against Celtic will always be more important even if it is a friendly. How's the league table looking?Comment

Re: How's Your FIFA 14 Career Mode Going?
I play on World Class with 5 minute halves. I used to play on Professional on my Southampton CM, but felt it was time to move up.
Still in the Coppa Nazionale. Round 2 is in November against Serie B side Latina.
So no, I'm only in 2 competitions this season. Hopefully 3 next season
At this rate you should easily be qualifying to Europe next season! Best of luck you're earning way there.Comment

Re: How's Your FIFA 14 Career Mode Going?
Dagenham - '13-'14 season
January update
Well that was fun. Five games plus the transfer window. A lot to get to. First the games:
@ Hartlepool: 0-1 Loss. Is that a losing streak? The scoring drought continues as we just cannot find the back of the net. This was Birighitti's first game since coming back on a second short loan and he failed on the only shot on goal by the opponents.
Vs. Bury: 1-0 Win. Wilkerson came through on a header off a corner kick to put us ahead and the defense was able to do the rest. We're still struggling though.
@ Burton Albion: 3-0 Win. As you will find out later in the post, Rhys Murphy was sold and as such there was an open spot in the starting XI. Brian Woodall ran with it and scored a beautiful goal to get the party started early, then Wilkerson and Elito put the finishing touches on a slump-busting performance that had all the Daggers smiling afterwards.
Vs. Mansfield Town: 3-0 Win. We proved that our last game wasn't a fluke once again playing really well at all levels and scoring, I don't want to say with ease, but definitely with a very good flow. We're feeling confident after this one.
@ Morecambe: 2-1 Win. A game not as close as the score suggests, this was our third straight good performance and we hope to keep this rolling into February and the rest of the season.
After winning 4 and losing 1, we have a made a move in the standings:
Football League 2 Standings
1. Dagenham - 60pts
2. Portsmouth - 57pts
2. S****horpe Utd - 55pts
4. Chesterfield - 54pts
5. Bury - 53pts
6. Southend United - 52pts
7. Plymouth Argyle - 48pts
Yes sir, we're back in first place! Things were looking shaky after December but we had a great bounce back few weeks here and we're back in the front of the pack with 15 games left (English schedules are so weird, why 45 games instead of 46? You know, 24 teams, 23 opponents, if I play each twice it'd be 46 games? Anyways ...)
Undoubtedly, at least for me, the moves made by the team in this winter transfer window seemed to have an effect on the improved performance of the team. Nothing flashy but.
TRANSFERS IN: Mark Birighitti (GK, 61 OVR), acquired on another short loan in hopes of improved play at the goal where Seabright is just not ready. Tim Payne (CM, 56 OVR), free agent signing from New Zealand for depth. Curtis Obeng (RB, 60 OVR), I've been wanting to upgrade at RB for a while even though Hoyte has been playing better than I expected, so I acquired this 25 Y/O Englishman from Swansea City for $220K. He's only slightly better than Hoyte (who's now up to 59 OVR) but the move also provides me with depth on the back end. Gonzalo Escalante (RM, 63 OVR), call this my marquee signing as I knew from my time at Boca Juniors in my now Alcorcon CM that this kid develops nicely into the 70's especially with PT. I was able to negotiate a $600K transfer fee with the Argentinian club for this 20 Y/O from Argentina who may just become the face of the team.
TRANSFERS OUT: Rhys Murphy (ST, 62 OVR), Burnley came calling for The Irish man right as the transfer window opened and we quickly got a deal done for $500K. Zavon Hines (RM, 64 OVR), I knew all along this was gonna be my most painful sale as he was really one my favorites on the team but he also presented the most potential as far as sale price. Blackburn Rovers agreed to a $750K price and we wish Zavon well in The Championship and hope to face off against him soon. Billy Bingham (CM, 56 OVR), we weren't originally planning to sell one of our most active subs but when Newport County inquired we listened. He was sold for $220K and we might just see him on the pitch when both teams meet in mid April.
As discussed in my last update it was imperative that I sold some of my best guys in order to have some flexibility in this transfer window and going forward. In the end I was able to have some flexibility during the transfer window but I'm back to limited fundsTo make matters worse I made a miscalculated plan: I set up my funds so that I would be able to send two more scouts out while still have enough funds to sign a couple of guys of my youth squad in May. You know what I didn't account for? Oh, I don't know, the chance that I might like one of the kids my scouts find and may wanna sign them? Lol I don't have any money for that. The good news is the board has twice given me some additional funds (you know, so that I can acquire more of those players rated in the mid-50's) so I'm hoping I may be able to go back to them once more before the season ends if needed. Otherwise I just gave two of my scouts 3-month vacations
No new additions to the youth squad as we only signed one guy after 3-month trips to Japan, Norway, and Mexico (in hindsight maybe I was too picky, but I'm also broke anyways so:
- Jamie Black (GK, 46-48 OVR, 72-78 POT): An intriguing 16 Y/O prospect from Scotland who stands at 6'7", 194lbs.
- Jordan Derbyshire (GK, 52-56, 82-88): This 16 Y/O kid from England is arguably the better GK prospect. He's 6 inches shorter than Black.
- Xabi Lopez (DEF, 42-44, 69-73): 16 Y/O kid from Spain will be a CG or CDM but I'm disappointed that his potential is so low.
- Keith Carey (ATT, 43-47, 73-81): This 17 Y/O from Scotland is now expected to be an attacker.
- Fabian Torres (MID, 46-50, 72-80): This 16 Y/O from Spain is likely to be a CAM/CM.
- Kagetoki Miyoshi (DEF/MID, 38-46, 72-90): This 15 Y/O kid from Japan continues to be an intriguing prospect.
* Denotes recent addition to the Y.A.
Only 3 games in February so another update will be coming soon. Wish me luck!vrabbit

Great results! I hate those matches like the one against Hartlepool. They have 1 shot on goal and it ends up going in. Kills your goalkeeper rating too. Do you remember who scored it? Was it my new signing Luke James by any chance?
Speaking of signings, you and Boca man. I don't follow the Argentinian league much, but if I had to pick on the spot I'm more of a River guy lol both teams have great talent and what's best is that you know them already. Looking forward to seeing how your marquee signing grows with you!
Shame your scout couldn't find anything in Mexico. Sorry about that :/Comment

Re: How's Your FIFA 14 Career Mode Going?
Gents, I need a second opinion here. So as you may recall, I'm playing Inter de Milán in the Europa League. It was a very close match but I made a foolish mistake trying to play a pass from one of my CBs to the other when Icardi was nearby. He intercepted and scored the 1-0 for Milan. We went into halftime pressuring high and giving the crowd an intense box-to-box match. By minute 62 I was down 3-0. Couldn't believe it. I had two substitutions left so I went into the pause menu to make some offensive changes to get back into the game, you know like an extra striker and a CAM, but you know what I find on my bench? Two players: a goalkeeper and a right back. It was like if my substitutes got up and left after the 3rd goal. I decided to quit the game and restart since I was basically being cheated out of a game by a glitch.
So I restarted the game and Gornell scored his 30th goal of the year at minute 11. Inter were creating chances left and right but Worner was playing perhaps the best match of his career. Luke Moore scored the second goal with a diving header, and then Gornell scored again (an awesome goal by the way. Çamdal crossed it in from the right side. Harvey didn't have an angle to shoot so instead brought the ball down with a header towards Gornell who was running in to the box and volleyed it scoring the 3rd goal for Wimbledon!) I won the match 3-0, but now I'm feeling weird about it since in the first match I was actually losing 3-0 before I restarted because of that glitch.
So what do you think: should I just continue with the season, or should I go back and play the Inter match one more time to see who's the best out of three? I'm calling it a night now, but I'll be back tomorrow to see what you guys think before going on with the career. Thanks in advance!Comment

Re: How's Your FIFA 14 Career Mode Going?
3rd February
Birmingham City Career Mode
February 2014
Birmingham (2nd) vs Reading (12th)
After scraping a win in the FA Cup 4th round against Chelsea, a weak and tired Birmingham squad went in as narrow favourites in this game. However once the match started there was only one winner. Harry Kane, the 1.2 million signing from Spurs, notched his first hat-trick (and a bit extra!) scoring 4 goals against the mid-table side. In a dominant display from the Blues, Sam Vokes and Andrew Shinnie each scored a goal to leave the final score as 6-0, the biggest win for Birmingham during Murphy's reign.
Final score 6-0
MOTM- Harry Kane
13th February
Sheffield Wednesday (13th) vs Birmingham (2nd)
After the international break, Birmingham were looking to keep up their good form against Sheffield Wednesday. After a dull first-half both teams stepped up their game in the second half, but it was Andrew Shinnie who scored the only goal of the game, making it his second in as many games. However in the last 15 minutes of the game, the match got heated with both Tom Thorpe and Paul Caddis each receiving a red card.
Final score 0-1
MOTM Will Packwood
18th February
Birmingham (2nd) vs Wigan (3rd)
Both teams desperately needed the win in this match, with Birmingham being able to leapfrog QPR into top spot of the Championship, while Wigan needed the win to keep their automatic promotion places alive. Wigan became the first team to do the double on the blues when Nicky Maynard opened the scoring for Wigan. Unfortunately, Birmingham couldn't respond, despite their best efforts.
Final score 0-1
MOTM Tyler Blackett (who came in due to suspension)
23rd February
Middlesbrough vs Birmingham
FA Cup 5th Round
After facing Premier League competition, Birmingham fans were expected to defeat their Championship counterparts. After a dominant 1st half display, the scoreline was 2-0 to Birmingham, after a Sam Vokes double. Dean Whitehead scored a free kick towards the close of the game, but Akwasi Asante scored to bring the game to a close. In the 90th minute, Sam Vokes got sent off, after a collision while heading the ball (a terrible decision IMO).
Final score 1-3
MOTM Harry Kane (close with Vokes)
25th February
Birmingham (2nd) vs Yeovil (24th)
With Yeovil still to win a game this season, Murphy chose to rest a majority of the first team for this encounter. With QPR playing Wigan, this was a must-win fixture for Birmingham and they delivered. Akwasi Asante scored in the 2nd minute for Birmingham, while Iliya Milanov scored his first goal for Birmingham in the 89th minute to seal the game for the Blues. Jordan Ibe managed to hit the post three times for Birmingham, but Birmingham still came out with the win. However, Birmingham still couldn't topple QPR after they defeated Wigan 2-1.
Final score 2-0
MOTM Akwasi Asante
I'll do another update, later maybe in March, and I'll probably go into less detail to make up space for a press conference.

Fifa 14 - Liverpool Career Mode
Hello guys, I've been reading for a while now and I'd just like to ask - my starting 11 is as follows -
(4-4-1-1 Attacking)
Mignolet - 81 GK
Johnson - 79 RB
Sakho - 80 CB
Skrtel - 81 CB
Enrique - 79 LB
Koke - 82 RM
Gerrard - 83 CM
Henderson - 79 CM
Sterling - 80 LM
Suarez - 89 CF
Sturridge 84 ST
However, Suarez requested to leave and I have 5 million at the moment, but selling Suarez will give me 60 million onwards, so where and who should I buy?! I was thinking obviously a new centre forward - something along the lines of an attacking midfielder or a default CF, and another central midfielder due to Coutinho being used in a swap deal for Koke. Also, my defense is shabby and I conceded 2 in a 3-2 thriller against Stoke as the opener, so defense needs work if I was to callenge for CL.
Please HELP!!!!Comment

Is that Mario Gaspar any good. I'm asking because I too have Gaspar as my last nameComment

Re: How's Your FIFA 14 Career Mode Going?
He has a good balance of attacking and defending stats. He's a solid crosser with the ability to get forward, but still has the defensive stats needed to hold down the RB spot in La Liga.Comment

Re: How's Your FIFA 14 Career Mode Going?
Against Atalanta I drew 3-3. Candreva scored twice early, one a shot the curved away from the goalie and one that hit the goalie and spun in. Early in the second half they scored twice to tie it up. Then on the 75th minute I scored with a backdoor header from Onazi, a sub I brought in. They scored quickly in the 82nd minute. Candreva won Man of the Match with a 9.6 rating. I am now 9th in the table with 13 points in 8 games.
I beat Cagliari 2-1. They had an own goal which gave me the win.
Against Milan I lost 1-0. Balotelli scored the only goal of the game. El Shaarawy won Man of the Match for some reason. The game was really close the whole time but I only took 3 shots and the goalie saved all of them. At the end of the game they controlled the ball really well not allowing me to take a shot.
Against Genoa I won 3-0. In the first half I scored twice with Helder Postiga. Then late in the second half I scored with Lulic. Helder Postiga won Man of the Match with an 8.8 rating. I am now 6th in the table with 19 points in 11 games. Here is some of the Serie A table:
1. Napoli 8-1-2 25 pts
2. Juventus 7-3-1 24 pts
3. Roma 7-2-2 23 pts
4. Inter 6-2-3 20 pts
5. Milan 6-1-4 19 pts
...
16. Chievo Verona 3-1-7 10 pts
17. Bologna 2-3-6 9 pts
18. Cagliari 2-3-6 9 pts
19. Catania 2-3-6 9 pts
20. Hellas Verona 2-2-7 8 pts
I took the USA job and I'm gonna try to have nearly the same starting 11 as the real life team. I might include Donovan though.Comment
