I might capitalise on this talk to tell people a tactic that worked incredibly for me in my Liverpool career. I played a narrow diamond with Sterling on the tip having a free roaming role, Gerrard in front of the defence with the cut out passes tactic. I had Balo as a target man and Sturridge to run in behind the defence. I would go more in detail but I'm not with my PS3.
If you have quick wingers (which I hope you would if you were going to even think about using a 4-3-3), Use their speed to make quick cuts inside and attack coming from the wing towards just outside the near post. It will be at an angle that is impossible to shoot at, but just as you get to the end line send in a grounded cross (tap the cross button 3 times) and either your Striker or your opposite winger will hopefully be in position to tap it in with his feet. This lets you use your wingers pace and dribbling abilities to get a hopefully easy shot.

That is the best strategy for a crowded box in my opinion, now if you have someone running into the box with a marker just barely shadowing him and you are further out, the tradition aerial cross is a good choice.

Now I'm not so sure how this will work in scenarios outside of my career, but it's worth giving a shot to see if you can get some dangerous attacks!

@Simp: A perfect 2 months! Wickham and the golden oldie are really banging i the goals for you. I'd love to see you win the league in your first season! Keep it up.

@Cruzerr: Very unlucky end to the season. I was gutted for you. I do believe though that you can win it next year with a couple of good signings!

Thanks! We've started very well alright! I just hope that I don't get many injuries and that I have enough quality players to get me through the season in the top half of the table. Maybe even in the playoffs.

Also you heard I was here so that's why you decided to come back.

My budget was pretty bad, 400k of which I think I have 200k left. I'll use that on the academy later on in the season. I certainly wouldn't mind spending another season or 2 in the championship but if I can get into the Premiership why not?

Yeah I think I'm getting back into my rhythm with the team and I'm really enjoying Agard's pace up front. McClure is more of a finisher, Morias is a worker and decent in the air (even though he's like 5'10"!) and Valencia has some pace though not as much as Agard. I'd be delighted to get promoted for the third season on the trot.

@Indi: I love tatics! They're aren't boring to me at all. Though i haven't altered anything as I feel I play well the way the team is set up well enough already. I will have a look at them tomorrow though if I can find them!

I hope I haven't forgotten to reply to anyone as I'm typing this while flicking between the Chelsea game! Lol.

The board wants us to finish mid-table, but we really should be looking to qualify for the Europa League, so it'll be important for us to kick on with this good form and keep punching above our weight to achieve that.

I'm also trying to implement the Ajax-Barcelona style of play. This means keeping at least 60% possession in each game. When we have the ball, we play loads of passes ranging from short to medium to long. Essentially, we want to overload one side of the pitch and tire the opponent, forcing them to make a mistake or give us an opening. When we don't have the ball, we want to press fiercely as high up the pitch as possible, trying to recover the ball as quickly as we can before starting all over again.

Tactically, we will be using moderately quick build-up with a variety of passes. There won't be much risk in our passing, nor will we look to cross from wide areas too often, but we will be ready to shoot when possible. Both build-up and chance creation will be organised. Defensively, we'll be using high pressing, aggression and width (to avoid losing our shape).

What better formations to employ than those which proved so successful for the geniuses who perfected the system? I'll be using Cruyff's 3-4-3 and Guardiola's 4-3-3, choosing whichever one better suits the given opposition.

Sorry for the boring tactics talk!
Au contrare, I love seeing some tactics talk! That's some of my favorite parts to discuss about soccer (obviously in additions to the players and plays), and such a huge part that it's fun to know what you're running. I'll have to fill you guys in on what I run as well, using the 4-1-2-1-2 narrow diamond and the 4-2-3-1 depending on who's fit as well as the opponent.

Re: How's Your FIFA Career Mode Going?

            Exeter City F.C.
            FIFA 15 - Season 2

            The Grecians

            January

            Ipswich Town 0 - Exeter City 3
            EXE - van Nieff 11', Cummins 76', Wilson 90'

Early in the game van Nieff attacked the box and dribbled to the right before unleashing a strong strike with his off foot that went far post for the opening goal. Cummins received the ball at the front of the counter and slotted the ball past the keeper to the bottom left side of the goal. Wilson the completed the scoring after attacking down the left wing and using his right foot to place the ball past the rushing keeper.

            Exeter City 1 - Doncaster Rovers 0
            EXE - Robinson 10'

Robinson got the ball at his feet on the counter and showed off his speed as he attacked straight down the middle of the defense leaving them backpeddling trying to stay in front. He found a gap and rushed through before firing a shot that ended up squeezing it's way through the keeper's legs and into the net for his first goal in his senior career. No doubt a memorable one as it was the winner as well.

            F.A. CUP
            Exeter City 0 - Sheffield Wednesday 2
            SHW - Maguire 12', Coke 19'

A dangerous cross was put in and was cleared out but fell right at the feet of a Sheffield Wednesday player, he found Maguire on a run and he finished quickly to put Wednesday ahead. Only a few minutes later another cross was played in and it was flicked on to Coke for the finish past the keeper. The rest of the game played out with Exeter unable to crack the defense and were knocked out of the F.A. Cup.

            Fleetwood Town 1 - Exeter City 2
            FWT - Ball 90'
            EXE - Ginnelly 3', Robinson 29'

MacDonald attacked down the right wing dribbling all the way to the end line before sending in a grounded cross to the box that Ginnelly knocked in for a goal in his debut for Exeter. Robinson then led the counter and attacked through the defense slotting it past the keeper to double the lead. Fleetwood scored late as they played the ball to the middle and Ball hit it first time catching the keeper in the middle of his charge and megged him for the goal.

            J. Paint Trophy Semi-Final Leg 1
            Portsmouth 3 - Exeter City 4
            POR - Hollands 28', Hmood 45', Fogden 84'
            EXE - MacDonald 7', 37', Ridehalgh 72', McKenzie 90'

Cummins found MacDonald on a run up the middle and he placed it in the net for the opening goal. Hollands equalized as he found himself unmarked as a cross came in and he headed it in easily. MacDonald struck again as Burgess dribbled all the way to the end line before playing it accross to him for the tap in. Right before half Exeter failed to clear a corner and Hmood took the ball away and knocked it in the tie it up. Ridehalgh then showed great individual effort weaving through the defense before finishing with his rigth foot. Fogden then headed in a cross off a counter that saw Exeter reeling to catch up. Right as the match was fixing to end McKenzi dribbled into the middle of the box before pulling it back onto his weaker right foot and firing it in for the winner.

            Exeter City 4 - Chesterfield 1
            EXE - Robinson 45', Williams 73', Ginnelly 78', Wilson 85'
            CHF - Doyle 76'

Robinson opened the scoring at the end of the first half with a huge run down the field finishing with his left foot into the right corner. Williams then ran into the box unmarked to head in van Nieff's corner to double the lead. Doyle then timed his run perfectly to stay onside and headed home a cross to cut the lead in half late in the match. Exeter's response came just two minutes later as Sercombe dribbled into the box before cutting it back and laying it off to Ginnelly for the first time strike into the net. Wilson then all but secured the match after Ginnelly dribbled down the left wing waiting to draw the last defender to him before sliding it acrross to Wilson for the tap in.

            Port Vale 1 - Exeter City 4
            PVL - Al Shamri 54'
            EXE - van Nieff 47', Sercombe 49', Wilson 89', 90'

After a scoreless half van Nieff took advantage of the defense splitting to cover Wilson and MacDonald and went straight up the middle and fired past the keeper. Sercombe followed up by stripping the ball from Port Vale on the ensuing position and taking it all the way down the field himself to finish past the keeper. Al Shamri took advantage of a giveaway by the defense to strike the ball into the net and cut the lead in half. Attacking on the counter, van Nieff moved the ball ahead to Wilson who went in 1 on 1 before finishing near post. Just for good measure, Wilson added one more after the keeper went to attack a ball rolling into the box but MacDonald beat him to it and crossed it in front of the goal for Wilson to tap in.

            Youth Academy

Adam McCartan (Northern Ireland) 16 years old 50-54 OVR 74-80 POT.
            - Adam has made gread use of his technical gifts to be a playmaker in the CAM role with the youth teams.

Andrew Wynne (United States) 16 years old 45-47 OVR 71-77 POR.
            - Andrew has yet to find his position for the future. He plays all over the midfield and as a forward for the youth teams, it remains to be seen which he will stick with.

Carl Little (Northern Ireland) 16 years old 41-43 OVR 74-80 POT.
            - Carl Little has stepped up for the youth team playing as a center back. The 16 year old hit his growth spurt that the youth doctors were expecting and now stands at 6'1" giving him a bright future in the center of the defense.

Chris Dean (United States) 17 years old 45-47 OVR 70-74 POT.
            - Combined pace with creativity has made him a natural for the CAM role. He is the first American signing brought over by Tex Bumosix to the youth academy.

Josh Meenan (Northern Ireland) 15 years old 46-48 OVR 72-78 POT.
            - The young boy from Northern Ireland has natural talents at keeper, but his future will be determined on how much he grows over the coming years since he is standing only 5'7" at the momemnt. If he hits a growth spurt as expected, his future seems bright.

Luke McClure (Northern Ireland) 16 years old 57-61 OVR 90-94 POT.
            - Has the look of a natural winger on the pitch. He favors the left side, and has the potential to be one of the best to ever come through Exeter City.

Paddy McEleney (Northern Ireland) 16 years old 49-51 OVR 74-80 POT.
            - Another giant in the academy to challenge for the keeper position of the future. Standing at 6'3" he isn't quite as tall as Tootle, but has plenty of the height required for his position.

Exeter City Player of the Month

            James Wilson

James Wilson didn't score as much as he has in past months, but with the injuries this month his presence proved invaluable. He played his normal striker role as well as moving out wide at times to the left wing. His 4 goals was the most of any Exeter player this month. He also took home the League 1 player of the month award for his efforts.

            Press Conference

Thank you once again for being here today. There was a lot of activity this month, a lot of good results, and one glaringly poor one. I'll let you all lead the questions.

Q: You had a lot of transfer activity and a few surprise sales. Craig Woodman went out as expected, but the other 3 players to move on all seemingly came out of nowhere. What can you say about the loss of these players?

A: As you said, the Craig Woodman sale was a forgone conclusion. As for the others, Mark Hughes was one of my first buys after taking over at Exeter. He played well for me at Morecambe, and played well here as well, but the recent form of Jordan Moore-Taylor made him replaceable. Especially with Jordan being a natural left footer to play on that side of the formation. Christian Ribeiro is another player that was in good form for us, but once again the play of another made him replaceable. Leon Robinson proved himself much earlier than expected and we are confident in him going forward. Lastly, Jamie Reid. He had been outstanding for us all season and we received an offer for him and we valued him so highly that it took a massive £500K offer for us to let him go.

Q: On the other side, you also brought in two new players this month as well as promoting two other youth players. What can you tell us about these additions to the squad?

A: Isaac Fryers and Drew Tootle have been with our academy for some time now, and with the injuries we had this month we got to a point where we needed to call up our most ready players in case of emergency. As far as transfers go, I am very optimistic about the two players we brought in. Matt Miazga is a player I have followed for the past few years since my time back in the MLS. He has great size, and I think with the right training he can be a great player for us. Josh Ginnelly is someone I expect to be very electric for us going forward. He has impressive physical abilities, and we like the promise he shows in regards to his technical abilities as well. He will play mainly on the left wing for us and I like his potential as an attacker.

Q: In terms of league play, your results were outstanding. You have moved within a point of Sheffield United for the top spot in the league with no signs of slowing down either. On the other hand you were knocked out of the F.A. Cup by Sheffield Wednesday. What is your opinion of this month?

A: While our performance in league play has been nothing short of inspired, and leaving us believing that we can and will be champions, losing in the F.A. Cup was a massive blow to us. We were looking forward to a good run in the cup, and we were hoping to use the funds to invest more into our youth program. It looks like those plans will have to wait another year, but we still have a lot of good to look forward to this season with a league title, and a shot at promotion looking more and more likely.

That is all there is time for today. I hope that I was able to cover most of your questions, I know there was a lot to go over. Thank you once again for being here, and hopefully by this time next month we will have overtaken Sheffield United on top of the table.

How's Your FIFA Career Mode Going?

Someone say tactics? I love tactic talks! I think it's fun reading about everyone's tactics. It helps me look at things from a different angle and improve mine as well. In my Wimbledon career I have used several different formations, but my favorites so far has been the 3-5-2 I used in Season 4 and 5, and the 4-1-4-1 I used in Season 1.

I really liked the 4-1-4-1 because the team shifted to a 3-4-3 when I had the ball. My fullbacks would push up making my wide midfielders push up further, my centre backs would open up to cover the fullbacks, and my CDM would drop in between becoming a CB, without me editing anything! It was just Wimbledon's default 4-1-4-1. Unfortunately the CDM demanded a transfer and it wasn't quite the same after that. I always tried to replicate it with customized tactics but it was never the same.

My knowledge on tactics really grew when I began using the 3-5-2. I found that if you wanted to play three at the back, you needed to focus on your tactics or else it wasn't going to work. This formation made every game different, as I had to tweak a few things prior to each game. Organization was key because if any of your players wander too far away from their position you are extremely vulnerable in defense. I played with a lot of short passes keeping the ball in midfield and always keeping an eye on my wide midfielders in case they made a run. Tons of fun but I chose to drop it and go with a 4-2-2-2 so that I wouldn't get punished for every single error and I could have a bigger chance of winning the premier league. Mission accomplished.

I've always liked the 4-3-3 Attack on paper, but I've never been able to really make it work in FIFA 13 and 14. The opponent's half would always get too crowded and my CAM would disappear. When I played with Bilbao I went with a 4-3-3 defend, but I moved the CM seven clicks forward and made him a CAM. That's when I found the perfect balance. Bilbao is made for a 4-3-3 looking forward to trying it out on FIFA 15.

Re: How's Your FIFA Career Mode Going?

Simppu, nice work with Verona, but I agree it feels very unreal to see you challenging for the title. At the start of my season, I said I would want to be challenging for a Europa League spot to improve on what Parma achieved last season, and things are progressing somewhat according to plan. I can only imagine you either feel amazing or completely irritated by how well you're doing. That's some paradox.

Cruzerr, nice finish to the season with Bilbao. Tough luck coming second, but that's still quite the achievement. I want to see how you'll improve the squad. More importantly, will you be able to resist the inevitable big offers for Muniain?

Keano, you look poised to get into the Premier League one way or another. Early days still, so I won't jinx you, but you have the foundations ready. Also, maybe try using smaller team badges? They're really enormous.

Moose, good to see you kicking on. Don't know why, but I really loved that goal + replay by Valencia against Leicester. Nice stuff visually, all around. Well done! However, that league table is MESSED UP. Everton in the top four with Tottenham leading? Chelsea eighth with THIS team? Ridic. By the way, how do you find the 4-2-3-1? I've found that having two DMs can sometimes leave a gap between them ahead of the back four. Any tweaks you've made to tactics/line settings that negate this? Last question: how do you rate Zarate? Have him as a potential signing in January/summer.

Tex, nice to see you're up there with a healthy lead. Wilson seems to have been amazing for you. Eager to see how you manage next season in the Championship, especially on a meagre budget.

Things have been quite interesting with Parma. I'm facing many of the same problems I did during my first season at West Brom, such as realising that several players aren't going to cut it and figuring out how to build my squad for the future. Obviously, the likes of Tosic and Oliveira are going to feature, but very few other players are certain to remain in the side over the next few seasons. I'm also leaking goals, mostly because I can't settle on a preferred formation or tactics.

I've had to make a trade-off between pressing high and keeping my shape. Right now, I've adopted a slightly more pragmatic approach, a middle ground if you will. I'm pressing aggressively, but only once the opposition are nearly in my half of the pitch. I find it much easier to ease my defenders off the attacker and have my AI midfielders catch up to him. This usually results in much better tackles and easier recovery of possession.

I also abandoned the 3-4-3 since I don't have the personnel to make it work right now, so I'm switching between the 5-2-3 and the 5-3-2. I really like 5ATB this year, because your wing backs actually play like they should. They get back and help out when you don't have the ball, but they also overlap really well when you go forward. I love wing play, so using the 5-2-3 and having four wide men is a boon for me. Even if I need to sacrifice my wingers, I still get plenty of width in the 5-3-2.

Also, there are three months of updates waiting on my desktop. Should I post them in one go or divide them up?

Also, there are three months of updates waiting on my desktop. Should I post them in one go or divide them up?
Right now I would like to be fifth or sixth so I could get into the Europa League but the team is playing too well. I can't do anything except for simulating a lot of games but I don't really want to do that. Like you guessed I'm irritated by my league position.

I would prefer them to be separated but I can't come up with a good enough reason. I'll like it either way.

I actually bumped it up to Legendary for a game this morning to make it a bit more difficult and realistic. It evened the game out a good bit. Also, sorry about the badges, I did the update on my phone and I didn't realize they were that big. I'll go back and edit them now.

With the 3 updates, I would post them separately if there is a lot in them, but that's just personal preference.

It is quite the achievement, thanks. I do have a few ideas to improve the squad, yet I haven't gone through with them just yet.

About Muniain leaving, unless he forces himself out, I don't see myself selling him, however......(its a slight season 2 spoiler alert so click it at your own risk)

Thanks, the end makes me sad and mad aswell. Hopefully with the right moves we will bring in the titles next season!

I enjoyed this season a lot and I know that the next season will be a good read, too. Good luck in the league and in the Champions League! I can't believe Zenit won it.
OH yes, it is really annoying. I am glad you enjoyed the season!

Zenit winning it is beyond me, but I am happy that it was them, then I atleast know it was a team who I couldn't actually beat. :P

Don't worry about it! If you want, you can catch up by reading the older posts, but that is a lot of scrolling, even I wouldn't do it. :P

I am really motivated; not only for success with Bilbao, but for revange against Atletico. They are a tough team.

I am making a squad review post later, so stay tuned for that!

Re: How's Your FIFA Career Mode Going?

OK here are the tactics I like to use in FIFA. In 14 it was a custom 442 diamond. I had a LM, CDM, CAM, RM. In 15, in my Bayern career, I started to use a 4231. Their default formation. With the LB LCB RCB RB. Then 2 CDMs. Then LM, CAM, RM. And a ST up top. But where I went sent off Robben for a younger player of the same talent in Bale, I have moved to a standard 433. I moved back 2 of the CMs to be CDMs, with Lahm staying back in front of my backs. And I have Schweinsteiger playing up on offense when I have the ball over in opposition territory. And I have Goetze as my CAM. And on the wings I have Ribery/Muller on the left and on the right is Bale, when he returns from an injury. And Lewandoski in the middle of the 2.
