After a very disappointing 2013-14 season, where Valencia CF finished in a very poor eighth position and thus failing to qualify for European competitions, the Catalonian club has announced that Juan Antonio Pizzi's contract has been terminated. The biggest candidate Nuno Espirito Santo, or simply Nuno, wasn't chosen as the team manager. Instead of him the owner Peter Lim and the chairman Amadeo Salvo decided to offer the job to the 48-year-old Simone Mendieta, the legendary Gaizka Mendieta's older brother. Simone, who spent five years as Valencia's assistant coach after coaching the Bats' youth teams, was very excited about the job and he made Nuno Espirito Santo and Gaizka Mendieta his assistant coaches. The club president Amadeo Salvo was quoted saying that "Simone has done a very good job with our youngsters and he has grown in this club. He is very ambitious and he knows the Valencia way of football. I'm looking forward to his work and improvements with the help of Nuno and Gaizka Mendieta."

Buenos Dias, señores y senõras. I don't have much time so I will answer only a few questions.


Simone, how does it feel to be the new manager of Valencia Club de Futbol?

The feeling is just incredible. I've lived my entire life here in Valencia and my heart belongs to the club. My biggest dream has always been to play professionally for this team or to manage it. Now that dream has come true and I'm extremely happy.


Why did you decide to appoint your brother Gaizka Mendieta and Nuno as assistant coaches?

Gaizka is a club legend and he has wanted to return to football as a coach for some time now. I think he understands the game beautifully and he's going to be a great mentor to younger players. Everyone could learn something from him. Nuno is also a real professional and he is a tactical and talented coach. It would be unfair not to give him some kind of job after all the rumours and negoatiations between him and the club.


What do you want to achieve with the team?

My - or should I say everyone's - biggest objective is to win the Champions League. We also want to take Valencia CF back to the top of the table and show that the team has still got it after some quiet years. We want Valencia to become a powerhouse in both Spain and Europe. This season we aim for a top four finish and a good run in the cup.


Is there a lot of pressure on you?

Is there pressure? Yes, of course. Is there a lot of pressure? I don't think so. There is always pressure in football, no matter if you are a player or a manager and no matter if you manage or play for Real Madrid, Valencia or Cordoba. I believe in my players and I can trust on them.


Will there be any big changes in the summer?

The Argentinian central defender arrived from Porto in the summer for a fee of €12 million. The 26-year-old is a very good defender who has all the necessary qualities to become one of the best in his position: speed, strength, heading and tackling, he's got it all.

The young and talented striker is the future of Spain and there will be pressure on him this season. He made his big breakthrough at the end of last season and everyone is expecting a good season from the young man.

Dani Parejo

The captain of the team is also a vital piece of Valencia's three-man midfield. Parejo is in his prime and he is a good passer of the ball who can also shoot free kicks well. With his vision and hunger for goals Parejo is a dangerous player for any opposition.

Sofiane Feghouli

The very, very pacy Algerian is meant to be one of Valencia's best players but he has been slightly underwhelming in the last seasons. On the right day Feghouli can ruin the opposition's defence using his pace and dribbling. It's now or never for him.


Transfer Budget: €24,000,000


So yeah, Valencia is the team I'll be (hopefully) taking to glory. I will try to make realistic-ish transfers based on rumours that I found online. I decided the manager to be Gaizka Mendieta's brother because I wanted to shake things up a tiny bit. I also thought about using Carlo Ancelotti or Gaizka M. himself. Next post will have the transfers and the month of August in it. I hope you aren't too sad about me using Valencia :P

Wouldn't even call that an highlight to be fair. Jumping to 7th would be ideal, yet the first game against Spurs doesn't look promising. My wage budget is actually pretty decent to play around with, so we'll see. :P

Tough month there but you're still doing way better than expected of you. Milner would be a great signing for you and if you can I'd suggest picking up Ibe on loan.

Btw, who is Kieran Kightly? At first I read it as the actress Kiera Knightley and then realised you probably mixed up Trippier and Kightly :P

I saw that too. Maybe its worth playing around with and seeing if it actually is true. I might use an old career and Sim up to May later. The only downfall if this is true is that you have lower overall players coming out of the academy..

True, but sometimes you get a 17 year old that is a beast straight from the academy and is owning everybody. If you're a person that wants realism I'm not sure how realistic that would be. At the same time it sucks waiting season after season for a promoted player to become somewhat useful though.

EDIT: I think I'll take this ^^^ back actually. I don't think I've ever had a 17 year old owning his opponents even when they have a high overall. What I've seen with my high overall youth players is that while they'll have insane stats in some areas they'll have terrible stats in others, which makes their game unbalanced. Even after promoting a high overall youth player you still have to wait one or two seasons for him to really step up and balance out his game through monthly growth. End of Edit*

Some takeaways I have from the link I posted is that in order for a player to grow in his physical stats straight out of the academy you have to promote him before May right, but he can't have any May updates. So if you already have a player that went through a May update you might as well leave him in there to get a second one if he's not ready. Promoting him pre-May will not have any impact now. It has to be before ANY May boosts. Another thing to note from the link is that it specifies that promoting a player before May does not guarantee his physical stats will grow, there's just a higher chance they will vs promoting him after May. So it's not even a sure thing.

We completely deserved to win this game. Judge opened the scoring, running from the half way line before smashing into the bottom corner. Steele was later forced into a good save to deny Gray. We made it 2 from the penalty spot after Baptiste was sent off for an awful tackle on Pritchard. Gray headed over the bar soon after before Lee was forced into a wonderful save by Rhodes. Eduardo pulled one back minutes after Gray and Pritchard screwed up a 2-on-1 chance.

We absolutely dominated Reading today. They had no shots, we had 64% of the possession. Absolute domination. Our first chance came when Judge hit the post with a curling effort from the D. For most of the first half we failed to make use of our possession but Federici was finally forced into a good save, diving low to stop Gray's prodded effort. Unfortunately for him, he flapped at the ball from the resulting corner and Tebar volleyed in from the edge of the box with the keeper stuck in no-man's land. Gray made it 2, volleying in on the rebound of Pritchard's powerful effort. The third came from the penalty spot after Jota was brought down by Obita in the box. Gray grabbed the fourth with a stunning effort from the edge of the box, smashing into the top corner after beating Pearce with ease. He completed his hat-trick in stoppage time, curling in from Jota's simple pass after breaking into the box.

The first half was a surprising tight affair with Shinnie firing over the bar and Lee being forced into a good save. The second half was when we started to take control, the first goal coming when Gray raced between 2 players, held off a third, and fired into the top corner. Tarkowski made it 2 with a powerful header into the top left from a corner. The third was an unbelievable solo effort, Pritchard running from his own box to the opponents with the ball, before calmly slotting into the bottom corner. The title is ours!!!!!

Yeah so I suppose there are pros and cons to each. I'm also not sure that there would be many players of a decent overall (60+) to promote pre-may. Unless of course you are a league 1/2 team that will most likely have some 50-60 Ovr players anyway.

Red Bulls Leipzig - The German Touch: Season 1

To start, I was told simply to gain automatic promotion. Fair enough. I was to reach the round of 32 in the German Cup. Fair enough. I was also given a 16 million euro transfer budget, given, not much in wages, so it leveled out to around 12 million, maybe eleven and a half. With that being said, enough to make a couple quality signings. That I did, or so I feel.


Transfers In:
Julian Brandt - €8,500,000

The biggest signing money wise, hopefully he can prove to be a star. Really like this signing, as well as the other two permanent deals.


Serge Gnabry - €4,000,000

Another huge signing. Should prove as another stud. Now you may be wondering, Brandt and Gnabry are both RM's, how will they both play? Well, Brandt can play LM, so I'll show that in the squad below.


Samed Yesil - €140,000

I swear Liverpool always gives this guy up cheap. Really good striker, and should turn out good. Not quite first team quality yet, but can develop. We have time on our side. Especially for his price.


Gianluca Gaudino: Season Loan

Really promising player. If he hadn't recently joined Bayern, he would be joining us permanently. Maybe next season though. Has sine good stats, including decent pace, good agility, good dribbling & ball control, and good passing. Can play CAM as well, may get featured in the team.

Even though he is German, I didn't think he is worth that much. He didn't look that good anyways, and his estimated worth was only €600,000. I'm happy with the deal. Right now we have Poulsen, who, is not German, but by the rules, I can play him, just can't bring in a non-German player, however he was already in the club. So for now, I'll definitely take Poulsen & a rising Yesil over him.

Notes: So, obviously you are wondering what happened. No doubt, we deserved to win the game, but not 5-0. It wasn't like that. What a way to start the season though, Germany should hire me right now(lol). Overall, it was a really good month, and hopefully leads into a good season, gaining promotion. That's all for now.
